Great for speeding up and expanding storage capacity in a gaming laptop

As almost everyone knows, the Samsung 990 Pro is hard to beat when it comes to SSD performance. I installed it into my Acer Predator Helios 16 gaming laptop about a month ago, and so far it is working great. It doesn't overheat, and gaming performance is excellent. I'm getting between 5000 and 6500 MB/s read and write speeds with it. I kept my OS on the laptop's included 1TB Micron SSD and installed this one into its second M.2 slot. I've been installing all of my games on the 990 Pro. Load times are extremely fast, and I haven't noticed any lag when moving from one large area in a game to another. Installation was easy for me, although I've worked in IT for years and started out working on laptops and computers, so I'm pretty experienced at that kind of thing. For those that may not be as comfortable there are tons of guides on YouTube that will help you out.

You get what you pay for!

This SSD is lightning fast, stable and reliable. This particular one is being returned because I'm an idiot, but I have the same one in a different laptop. It's been with me for more than a year and performs immaculately. I actually swapped the original system disk with the Samsung because the later was better. (Meaning I rearranged the 2 dad's so the Samsung was c:, then clean installed the operating system on it. No regrets!) IMHO: value for money, reliable, very fast booting, and no issues.

    No issues. Exactly as described.

This is a great hard drive that was easy to install in my laptop. Expands my ability to have multiple large games on my hard drive simultaneously. The speeds are excellent and I have had no issues over the past few months with heavy usage.

Fast, realible, great performance, best M.2 SSD you can buy! Samsung does it again!

After researching about M.2 NVMe SSDs I thought I would give the Samsung 980 Pro a try judging on all the great things I've read about this SSD. Let me tell you, I've made the right choice and haven't looked back at HDD since. First of all, this thing is blazing fast. I ran two benchmarks on it and they both came back with great read and write speeds. Second of all, the games look very very crisp, clear, and haven't had any issues with games on this thing. They run smooth as hell on it. Also, Samsung offers a 5 year warrant on this drive just like all their other ones. Samsung has your back when it comes to their drives! The Heatsink makes life easier as it keeps it from getting too hot. Make sure you install Samsung Magician when you purchase this thing. You can do things with Magician like update the drive, change the color of the LED light, run benchmarks and so on!! Buy the Samsung 990 Pro you won't regret it!

Easy to install and Nice for Gaming

I am loving this SSD M.2. It is fast and has more than Enough Storage for all my games. It makes gaming smooth when playing multiplayer. The Price was just right for this.

Very easy upgrade, noticeable decrease in gaming load times

This is doing exactly what I want it to - I replaced my old Samsung 970 Evo using PCIe 3.0 lanes with this one running PCIe 4.0 lanes, and I've seen a marked improvement in game and level load times. It's not a night and day difference, but going from a 4 second load time to a 2 second load time is pretty sweet and really makes your computer feel faster, even if the actual time it's saving you is relatively small. I already had the Samsung Magician software installed for my old SSD, so I was able to quickly use the cloning tool to copy everything over in a matter of minutes. Once I swapped the drives around in my system and made a change to the boot order in my UEFI, I was off to the races with this as my normal boot drive with zero impact to my Windows 11 install. If you're already using a decently fast PCIe 3.0 NVMe drive this isn't going to blow your mind, but as far as PCIe 4.0 drives go this is a great option and the upgrade is noticeable. Highly recommended.

Loads online multiplayer matches very quickly…very impressed!!

Going Samsung from now on with SSD’s. All my games load up way faster than my WD 1TB SSD. I got my Samsung SSD 4TB and both were easy to insert into the PC. However, Samsungs brand just seems faster and has a stronger build quality then WD. Read and write speeds are as advertised; well worth the money.

This SSD is one of the best in the market, offering blazing-fast performance, high durability, and low power consumption. The Samsung 990 pro 2TB SSD uses the PCIe Gen4. The SSD also has a mean time between failures (MTBF) rating of 1.5 million hours, which means that it has a very low probability of failing during its lifetime. The Samsung 990 pro 2TB SSD is also designed to consume less power than other SSDs, with an average power consumption of only 6 W. This means that you can save energy and extend the battery life of your laptop or mobile device. The SSD comes with a 5-year limited warranty, which covers any defects or malfunctions that occur during normal use. Great so long as you are able to update the software, verify you can before buying.

TLDR: Great drive performance but check how the drive's firmware is to be updated and if that OS is supported. Currently Linux and Linux-based OSs are not. This drive was excellent in its performance, but I found that the only way to update the firmware for their drives is through their Samsung Magician software. Linux and its various flavors and derivatives are not supported, so if you use one of their drives in a NAS that uses an OS based on Linux, the firmware cannot be updated (at least based on the answers I got from Samsung support). I've seen supposed ways to do this, but any reference to them usually include that the mentioner has never tried that approach and that there's no guarantee it will work. So not being able to update the firmware while it was installed in the NAS, I'd have to remove it and install it in an available m.2 motherboard slot on a Windows 10/11 PC. Previous versions of their software don't recognize any Samsung drive installed in the ASUS NVMe to USB-c portable drive adapter I have (this may have changed or may be due to however that enclosure reports the drive to windows, etc.). Either way removing a drive from a RAID array just to update its firmware seems to be a way to cause more problems for yourself (such as it may want to rebuild the array if it determines the drive to have been removed, which may happen as the firmware update may change a value somewhere IDK). Given that some of the more recent NVMe models they have released have had premature wear issues that can only be resolved with a firmware update, it's really important to be able to do so.

    Wow, this thing is fast!

I finally decided to bite the bullet and order this SSD. So glad I did! This is installed in my Dell Precision 3630 workstation at home. Samsung made it easy to swap over from my old drive C: to this new drive by downloading their FREE Samsung Magician software. It copied all of the operating system files and everything else over. After it was up and running, I have unplugged the old drive to keep as an emergency backup for now. Their software instructions are a little out of date, I think, because it states that it does not copy the Windows Recovery partition, but it did! The only issue I had was that all the files were there, but they moved that partition and Windows didn't know where to find it. I found a way to enable it using a couple of DOS commands. It wasn't hard, just had to research it a little. Now Windows knows how to make a recovery disc again if I need one. Look at the two Benchmark photos. My old 'spinning disk' SATA drive only had less than 200MB/s sequential read speed. Now look at the this new SSD speeds on the next photo! Wow! It made a huge difference in how fast programs load among other things. Well worth the money! Update: I have now also installed a 2TB version in my office computer and it was just as easy and is working just as well as the first one I ordered. Very pleased.
