- IspendTOOmuchONamazon2024-05-05Works OK, but a little slow
I tried it on a Windows desktop and laptop. Plug and Play worked great. It works ok, but it ran slow on both computers. The manual I received was for a different product, but there really isn't a need for a manual.
- Somebody2024-06-16This gave me back a much-loved program
When I bought a new computer a few days ago, all went well until it came time to download a vital program from my CD player. It wouldn't recognize the files -- in fact, seemed not to see anything at all on the disk. It's a very, very old program and when I looked for online sites where it could be downloaded, none of the downloads worked. As a last hope I ordered this CD player, thinking it would go right back to Amazon because it probably wouldn't work, but IT DID WORK. Quickly downloaded a beloved program I thought was permanently lost. No hiccups, no pauses, no problems. I'm beyond happy. I'm ecstatic. And by the way, my old CD player worked fine in the past so I don't know what happened to it. I tossed it in the trash because this new one is all I need now. If I could give it 20 stars, I would.
- MommyMon2024-05-10Simple and inexpensive plug-and-play external CD/DVD burner drive.
We got this as the only computer we have with an optical drive is a 10-year old PC. Some nice features are that the drive itself is small, compact, and very portable if needed, with a built in cable that fits snugly into a slot underneath the drive, and has plugs for both USB-A and C. It seemed to work fine with our Win10 tablet PC. Plugged it in, was recognized immediately and was able to play back DVDs using VLC player with no problems. Read and autoplayed an older CD-ROM from a computer magazine perfectly fine as well. We plugged it into our older 2013 iMac and it wasn't recognized. Maybe that the USB ports on the old Mac didn't supply enough voltage. Didn't try burning any discs, because using a USB drive is much more convenient and faster.

I purchased my first new laptop computer in more than ten years, and was surprised to learn that modern laptops do not come with built-in CD drives anymore. I purchased this unit so that I can rip music CDs into MP3s for my portable music player. This unit plugs into a USB port and does not require any software installation. It works perfectly and functions way faster than the drive in my old laptop. And, the price is ridiculously low.

I'd always thought that there'd have to have been an external DVD/CD drive made at some point, but never actually saw one. To my horror, laptops aren't coming with optical drives anymore, and they're even forgoing HDDs entirely. This, an aggressive symptom of my rapid and sudden increase in age, seems to be an oversight. The utility of optical medium isn't gone yet, and sometimes, it's an easy, portable option that doesn't get ran through the washer by accident. This optical drive is exactly what it says. It'll read CDs, DVDs, and presumably burn them, too. I haven't had occasion to test the write capabilities, but I had a completely satisfactory experience with the Wacom DVD installer, and a few movies; I didn't experience any skipping, no real issues with power routing, and the disks were in good shape coming out, too. 5/5 would recommend. Only criticism is that the USB is *wayyy* too short. You're gonna want something to extend it to probably, unless you're working with a laptop , or got lots of deskspace, or something.

Wasn't expecting much for the price, but works as it should and get the job done. Been using it for a week, so far its still working fine.

Although the era of needing CD/DVD players is fading, occasionally, I stumble upon an old disc I'd like to revisit. Laptops have long abandoned built-in players, so acquiring this portable CD/DVD player was a moment of excitement. Its operation is remarkably simple; just plug it in, and it's good to go—no tedious downloads required. It operated smoothly with our Win10 tablet PC. Upon plugging it in, the device was promptly recognized, allowing seamless DVD playback using VLC player without any issues. Additionally, it effortlessly read and auto-played an older CD-ROM. I'm thoroughly satisfied with this plug-and-play CD/DVD player/burner. The rundown ... Quality -- Pretty good. Definitely needs a protective case. 5/5 Utility -- Works well so far. 5/5 Parity -- Pretty good price, I think. 5/5
- Terry A. Powers2024-05-12nice plug and play cd/DVD player/burner
Even though the days of needing to be able to play cd/dvds are about over, I do occasionally find an old disc that I would like to be able to play. Of course laptops have not come with built in players in years so I was excited to get this portable cd/DVD player. It's super easy to use. Literally just plug it in and it's ready to go. No need to download anything. I cd/DVD player function appears to work quite well. I am not overly technical so I can't give a technical review. It just appears to function fine when playing cd/dvds. I have not tried out the DVD burner function yet but am looking forward to trying that aspect as well. I do hope it works as well and easily as the player function does as there are actually some older disc's I would like to try out. Overall, I am quite pleased with the plug and play cd/DVD player/burner and as long as the burner function works too, I would definitely recommend
- Smart Shopper2024-06-12Works out of the box
My vintage MacBook Pro recognized this drive immediately and I was able to use it to install a fresh older copy of OS X with no issues.
- Joshua Smith2024-05-02Compact But Slow
I tried this drive on both an M1 MacBook Pro and a high-end desktop Windows PC. Of course, on the MacBook, I could only connect via USB-C. It. Was. Sloooow. So, I moved over to the PC to try it there. I connected with USB-A 3.0 there and it still started out slow but got faster as it went. Also, the manual is inaccurate. It doesn't really matter since you don't need drivers or an app, just know that there's a lot of stuff in there that doesn't apply.
