Using to scan every photo from childhood before they disintegrate. Does a great job. Fast and super clear pictures. Simple to use. Great quality. No issues.

This is a very good, low end scanner. This is my "go to" scanner, which I use mostly for documents and pictures. I have had this scanner for several years, so I am not sure if this model is still available. Even if it is available, I think the price has increased substantially. I paid around $70. I recommend you experiment with the scanner's user interface to find the settings that work best for the types of scanning you do. Once you find the settings you like, document them. Pro: Compared to other scanners I have used, this scanner does a good job with shaded areas using low DPI. At low DPI, very fast scans. I have been very pleased with black & white and color pictures. Extremely close to the original, even when blown-up in photo editing. For sepia-toned pictures, I use color. GREAT size for traveling. Cons: The connecting cord (for data transfer and power), has sometimes lost connection due to slight jostles. It is better now that I connected it to a tight-fitting USB port which is then connected to the computer. For small pictures (4x6, 5.7, etc.), I could never get the scanner to just pick up the picture. I now just scan all pictures at 8.5 x 11 and crop them in my photo editor. Orientation can also be flakey, so I again use the photo editor to rotate as needed.
- A Dog Owns My Heart 💜2024-06-10Doesn't Come with Manual or Software
Every scanner I've ever owned has come with either an instructions sheet or a user manual and software. This one came with nothing but the device and a micro to USB cable. I found this unusual. While I'm all for saving trees, I would have preferred if Epson included at least an info sheet with info on where to download the manual and driver software. Of course, this is not difficult to find on the Epson website. But some instructions would still have been appreciated. Not everyone is tech savvy. My thoughts regarding this device after about 30 document scans: Pros: * Scanner is lightweight * Powered by laptop/computer; doesn't require a separate power cord * Easy to use * Good quality document scans * Can remove lid (great for creative scans) * Can scan directly to Dropbox, Google Drive, etc. Cons: * Doesn't scan both sides of documents (you have to individually scan each page which can be time consuming) * Could be faster * Older cable (most computers are using USB-C now) Tip for Mac laptop users: If your Mac has USB-C ports, get a "USB-C to Micro USB cable" to directly connect your Mac to the scanner. The cable costs about $5-8.
- Maryll2024-03-01Works well with small items.
I just scanned in over 3000 pictures of varying sizes, some of which were between 1 and 3 inches square or rectangle. I could easily fit several on the scanning surface and each picture came out just as clear as if I had scanned each individually. I don't like that sometimes the scanner software wanted to 'auto crop" but it was easily corrected with a click of the mouse. The physical size of the scanner is just right for me (I don't have large items to scan) and it is fairly light. The only thing I don't like it that it is always on when plugged in - there is no on/off switch. Also, if the computer goes to sleep while the scanner is plugged in, the scanner doesn't work. You have to unplug the scanner and restart your computer. Just plugging the scanner back in didn't work, at least for me. I used an iMac for my scanning, so this problem might not exist for a PC.
- Leroy Jenkins2020-07-19Dies After 10 Days; Randomly Crashes on Windows; Will Require Complete SYSTEM RESTART to Fix
***FIFTY-FOURTH DAY UPDATE*** Device completely bricked. A very flimsy, useless piece of paper, attached to the scanner head, came loose and now jams the scanner header every time it does a scan. Video attached. So, for whatever you pay, you only get a scanner for two months. That's like a rental. ***EIGHTEEN DAY UPDATE*** The "scan" button is grayed out mysteriously, and I can't scan anymore. The "preview" button works perfectly, and utilizes the actual physical device, but "scan", absolutely does not work. Repeat fix procedure from Fifteen-Day-Update: Fixed. ***FIFTEEN DAY UPDATE*** Epson scanner software errors out on connection everytime. In order to fix: Remove epson driver from device manager, uninstall epson software, delete user/appdata folder and program files dirs, remove every entry containing the word "epson" from the registry editor (start->run->regedit). Failure to do ANY of the above will mean that the Epson scanner is permanently broken for ~that~ particular computer. So, either fix that computer, or find another computer for some ~200 scans before breaking again. ***THIRTEEN DAY UPDATE*** After physically repairing the scanner, I now get this error: "epson scanner scan button grayed out". If you google it, you will find thousands of others with the same exact problem. THERE IS NO SOLUTION TO THIS. ***TEN DAY UPDATE*** I have been using the Epson Scanner for only ten days. It is official BRICKED; its drivers are no longer working on the machine it is connected to. Other machines work, which means it's a driver issue -- but uninstalling the driver WILL NOT FIX IT. That means, YOU HAVE TEN DAYS BEFORE EPSON SCANNER BREAKS, per computer. Good luck. All you get when you run Epson Scanner, after this period, is just a small, little box that says "Epson", and without any functionality whatsoever. ***INITIAL REVIEW*** Initially, I was impressed at this light-weight, sleek solution. But then I started to actually use it. After only a few days of a use, the biggest complaint is this: it crashes, randomly, nothing can connect to it (epson software or windows fax&scan), the lights won't turn on, etc.., and the only way to return it to normal is to completely close all applications and restart your system. Uh, yeah, since I'm just scanning as a background activity to other primary activities (since it takes 7 minutes to do as can), this is incredibly annoying. Can I give a negative star rating?

This scanner was fast and easy to set up and use. I have some photos in very old albums and couldn't remove the photos because removing the photos would tear them. I scanned full album pages. Being able to remove the lid of the scanner made this task quick. The other features I find useful is the choice of formats available (pdf, jpeg, etc.) The scanner can Auto Crop to make 4 photos on a page scanned separately or you can keep it as a full page scan. Saving options are numerous as well. The quality of the photos or scanned documents is phenomenal. I love the fact that it's powered via USB connection and the cord is long enough to make it convenient.

I am very thrilled with the ease and quality of this scanner. I had previously used a big old bulky one and this one is a joy to use. So easy to work and the results are Perfect! I scan coloring pages that are complete and other colored images. Excellent results and easy edit system. Price can't be beat. Takes up far less space on my desk than my big old one.
- Over 15 Years Reviewing2016-05-283 Stars with isssues, deceptive advertising and description. Works but there are concerns.
The Epson name is well recognized in this house been buying their products for along time. This however falls short of quality and Epson should be ashamed of such false descriptions and adverting. There was some real stupid things done in this scanner build that Epson should know better. Pros: Small footprint Easy install on Windows 7 Other reviews show varied issues. Sturdy enough and light weight easy to have on any desk. Scans old photos well and fast seems the auto feature does a good job. No power supply needed. Several users experience option, auto, home, office and pro. Cons: Software is old school like 1990's maybe its adds stability but bad interface. I am old school tech so I could care less but pretty clunky software. NO POWER on off you must unplug the usb stupid idea as over time you will wear out the cable why would they not put a simple on off. Misleading description its not just powered by USB, it requires the PC's USB. I thought it might scan to an SD card but is iffy on description. Scans in ten seconds, yes if grey scale and low res, very very very misleading high res scan takes 7-9 minutes and is why loss of stars major for that. Kick stand ins cheap plastic and why it helps save space it will break in time poor design. Over all the the scanner scans and does well enough, I paid 65.00 fair enough for a scanner that scans. Epson should get their hand slapped for puffing the description and facts. It is not a 10 second scanner its more like a 1-2 minute for a photo longer for full page and high res is way longer, shame on you Epson. The kick stand they advertise saves space is cheap and wont last. The hinges for the scanner are also cheap cheap plastic. I bought this to do a bunch of photos and the ten second scan was why I bought this, it will take longer to do the scans now, Picture scan quality for me is good. Software works well enough for very old school software. No on/off switch is just lazy design no reason to not have a off switch. The scanner is not for the professional, its for the here and there sometimes scanner. I would have returned it but it does work on win 7 just fine. Its annoying but works.
- Harrison A2024-03-31Scanner replacement
My old scanner, that I had for years, decided to kick the bucket not too long ago, so I got this. It's smaller then my previous scanner, taking up much less space in comparison. You can also stand it differently & remove the top if you ever need to scan book pages. The quality of the images are better, & the buttons, thus far, are responsive. It's basically a plug & play, powered by your PC, as opposed to my old scanner that had a separate plug. If I've got a nitpick about this scanner, is that it automatically turns on when I turn on my PC. I'd rather a separate on/off button on the scanner; it coming on even when I don't intend to use it is a waste.
- William Lewis2024-05-07Gets Only 4 Stars Because
The scanner pulls its power from the computer it's connected to via a USB port, because it doesn't have its own independent power source. This will cause other USB connected devices to break/drop their connections. Example = When the scanner is connected, my external hard drive dock will break/drop its USB connection. That is the Only issue I have with the scanner. It does have a very good scanned picture quality.
