Sucks.
- Amazon Customer2024-01-17Not like advertised
Not easy to load the films or slides…kept falling out. Very small which makes it hard to view the photos. Did not scanned like advertised. Will be returning.

I don’t know what I was expecting, but I was for sure hoping for a better quality scan. This felt like a toy rather than a tool…like, my old Show ‘n Tell or View Master. I purchased this for a project and it’ll work for that I intended it for, but not without a lot more work outside of the box. So, if you don’t have photo editing skills, this may be a problem. I’ve only used the scanner for slides, so I can’t speak to how it scans negatives. The slides I’m scanning are all vintage circa 60s and 70s. ~ The slide carriage is awkward and doesn’t keep the slides from moving around while inserting into the scanner. ~ The directions could be more thorough. I didn’t find them very helpful. This “read the directions” kind of person needed more info. ~ Color correction. Frankly, I *just* discovered more options on the scanner. One of my attached photos shows that when you are in the RGB screen, there are options at the bottom center of the screen. My screen is cut off, so I didn’t even know I had more options. Sadly, I had already scanned nearly 1k slides. Now that I know…it’s just so disappointing. No one should have to calibrate the screen. It shouldn’t be a thing. ~ The interface. The buttons are okay. They’ve consolidated multiple actions in each button…kind of like on desktop printers. I’ve never liked this type of interface, but consider that a personal issue. Even with all of the scanning I’ve done, I’m still not completely comfortable. “What does this do?” “If I do this, what’ll happen?” That’s pretty much how I navigated, whether it be the physical buttons or the internal interface. But, I can totally accept that it could just be me. :) ~ I looked at slides using the hdmi to my tv. Worked, as expected. That was fun. ~ The device seems built well. Kinda sleek in all black. Feeling a bit minimalistic. Kind of discrete. Doesn’t clash with anything. (I wonder if it would be okay to leave it on with a slide in the carriage, like a photo frame…) ~ Image quality. Well, we already discussed my color correction issues. Other than that…2 things. The images are not crisp. The resolution of the file is fine, but the image is (slightly?) less focused. It’s marginally better than taking a picture of a projected slide. Know what I mean? The second thing…I was using the 35mm slide carrier, and the scanner was set for 35mm slides. Every single image I scanned was cropped by the scanner. Legs got cut short. Skies disappeared. I kept think that I could mend multiple files outside of the scanner, but I shouldn’t have to do that. It should show and scan the entire slide…but it doesn’t. Okay, that’s all I got. If you can get a good price AND lower your expectations, this gadget is *a lot of FUN*. Could be better, could be worse. Just understand that it’s nowhere close to a professional quality scan. Think for play, and everything will be okay. :)
- Dustin Bishop2024-01-30Very Impressed!
I found some old family slides from the 70's and was at a loss of how to restore them then I found this device. It came very professionally packaged, was easy to set up and use. I am now able to upload the old slides and this device even enhanced the images from a 1977 slide photo. I really didn't expect to be this pleased with this device based on the affordable pricing, however it has exceeded my expectations. I can't wait to start uploading old negatives.

This is a cool throw back to a different kind of film, which I've been really into recently. But when, I first tried to use this, I was so frustrated with how much trail by error was required to figure it out ultimately. First of all, it doesn't fit 35mm, which I didn't realize, but other film was also hard to fit it. It didn't slide in easily, but when I finally got it to work, it worked pretty well. Because it's an upgraded version of a vintage film camera, the colors I actually prefer more than the actual real thing it's based on! I ended up liking what came out, but the process to get there was frustrating. Overall, I sort of recommend it, but with one eye open.

This Slide & Negative Scanner is different from the simple slide viewer that is discussed in most of the reviews at the time of writing this review. This Scanner digitizes color and black & white positives and negatives of 135, 110, 126, Super 8, and 35 mm slides. The digitized images are written onto an SD card, and can also be fed to an HDMI display. The scanner comes with feed trays for each of the film sizes. It has built-in capability to analyze each image, and adjust the image brightness and color. There are also manual controls to further adjust the brightness and color. Scanning is done at 14 megapixels of resolution. Scan time is under 2 seconds per image. The feeding of strips of film is easier than the handling of mounted 35 mm slides. Although mounted slides can be scanned, they hang up in the feeder after each scan is captured. The output is suitable, but not professional. Images captured on a flatbed scanner and corrected with VueScan software are much more pleasing. The two pictures attached to this review are from a color slide that was shot decades ago, and was poorly exposed at that time. The yellowish image is the output of this scanner, with the slide's yellow cast preserved, and the bluish image is the output of an Epson flatbed scanner, with software that corrected the colors. This Slide & Negative Scanner works well enough, but it does not perform miracles.
