- Jatin2024-05-21Excellent document scanner
CZUR Shine Surface Pro scanner is an excellent product. It is very convenient compared to flatbed scanners especially for bulk scanning needs. The delivery was fast and on time. The packaging is good and protective of sensitive parts like camera and lights. The build quality of the device is top notch. The supporting rod and camera rod seem to be made of a metal. The base plate is sturdy and provides good support. The base plate has three extra USB ports, one on right side and two on left side. Quality of foot pedal, cables and power adapter is good too. The power adapter came with US, UK and European plug attachments. Only one step assembly is required, attach camera rod to the base plate which can be easily done with the provided allen key. All the required cables have different ports and clearly marked on base plate so no possibility of confusion. Provided finger cots are of good quality plastic and helpful in scanning thicker books. The webcam part has smooth but not too loose swivel functionality. It looks good on the desk. The software is easy to download from their website. It has two main functionalities, scanner and visual presenter. It asks to choose the functionality you want to use at the start of the program each time. No problem in detecting the device by the software. I have only used it on Windows 11 so far. The user interface is efficient and functional. It opens in page/image edit screen; it shows scanning related settings after you click on scan button. All the scanning functionalities advertised seem to be working fine. Scanning thick books with finger cots works perfectly if you follow the instructions given in the sticker on their bag. A few times it missed to identify separate papers and clubbed two nearby papers in single image instead of separate image, but that's a rare and not regular occurrence. Overall, quite satisfied with the performance of the scanner software. I haven't tried visual presenter part, but it looks very functional. The general performance of the scanner and the software is excellent and seem to fulfil all the features mentioned in Amazon description. As mentioned above, hardware is excellent, and software is pretty much self-explanatory so under normal circumstances support wouldn't be required. But I had to contact them as a part got damaged due to my mistake in further transportation. I emailed them in a last-ditch effort, and surprisingly their replies were swift and to the point. They provided efficient and very generous solution for my problem. I have never seen such willingness to help a customer from any company, especially when it was not their fault to begin with. The support team at CZUR is excellent, helpful and fast. I'll most certainly buy CZUR if I ever need a scanner again. Hopefully they'll come out with a wi-fi (with Bluetooth for foot pedal) version of this scanner.
- A.B.C.2020-09-08An excellent, easy-to-use portable scanner
I think this is one of the best products that I could have found for my needs: a scanner that can deal with books, particularly larger books when presented, and is portable. I had a handheld scanner before, the type you slide over the pages, but it never did a great job, so when it finally bellied up, this was a welcome find. I am in libraries and archives as an academic and PhD student. I bought this so I could take it with me and scan as often there is a limit on scanners in public spaces (both the scanner and how much of a book you are allowed to scan) and to get the book scanned quickly at home when I can finally borrow again. I usually use a camera to photograph archival materials, but I don’t like photographing books and articles that I need to read as inevitably I will delete a photo which is a page of the document, so this allows me to scan, organise and make the pdfs right in the program. I have had no problems scanning pages and having them come out as clear and crisp pdfs. I suggest if you are working with shinier pages that you work in a well-lit environment or in the daytime—this has been the only minor drawback thus far as I tried to scan a shiny page art book in a one-light source dark living room one night and I could not pick up the image without an area of slight light/gloss appearing on an image page, but in the daytime, scanning that page was no problem. If I would have tinkered more and put on all the lights perhaps in my living room it might not of been a problem so I thought it was worth mentioning that I don’t see it as a major issue as I captured the page effortlessly the next morning. What is useful is that you can store your scans as an OCR document which means you can search the text of the book once you have scanned and saved as an OCR in Word or Excel on your computer. This is a game changer for me and I had not understood this when I ordered, so this is a bonus in my book. When you get it, and should you have a Mac, you can try, but ultimately you can forget using the included CD for it might tell you that Macs are not supported. Go straight to the website and download the program and get the app on your phone for controlling the lighting remotely which is a nice feature. There are useful videos in the download, so I suggest watching them as they get you started quickly. I have not tried to put the scanner program on 2 different computers, so I cannot speak to if there is a limit to the software download. I have the program only on my laptop just now so I can take it with me. Just make sure you get the serial number off the bottom before you get it all set up so you can plug that in on the software download. I should also mention that I have used the foot pedal which is the easiest way for me to scan and there are finger clips that help you to spread out the pages. The clips do show up at the very edge of some scans and as I am not sure if I am using them correctly, I cannot say that this is a malfunction, so unless your book lies really flat, you might see the edge of these clips as you try to pull the pages flat for the scan or you might see your finger tips. As for some of the not so positive comments I have read in the reviews which had me on the fence before I purchased: the software has not interfered with my operating system that I can see or have noticed, the mat roles out flat (just roll it up once the opposite direction and you will make it flat), the lights are excellent. Questions I had about the CZUR XPRO Portable before I bought it which I can answer: it comes with sidelights that slide on magnetically; this model has a built in battery which charges continuously as it is plugged in—there are indicator dots that progressively light up as it charges; it does scan smaller documents like receipts, put everything on the mat and it will pick up the edges; it is light enough to travel—I bought the backpack after the fact and this fits my scanner, the mat, all cords, and my 12” Mac perfectly and cords and other perfectly. I would not call it heavy when it’s all loaded up together. Finally, this is a well-made and elegant product. It looks like a really nice sleek and contemporary light when left out on the table. My eyes are not great, so I am appreciating the four different lighting levels it offers when I am engaged in non-scanning work. This so far is an excellent buy for me and I cannot wait to use this on the road when the libraries and archives reopen!
- Brintkt2024-02-04A Good Product with Poor Instructions
Update (Final - 27 May 2024): The company offered to replace the product in February 2024 which I appreciate, but due to time constraints and needing the system for a class, I could not pursue that option. Instead, I fixed the issue myself which in all likelihood voids the warranty. It is likely the issue I found was a quality control anomaly at the factory given the connectors were glued in place, otherwise the product has been outstanding. Update (17 Feb 2024): After two weeks successful use, the scanner started cutting in and out - nothing changed since I first used it when it worked fine. It is now indicating "Looking for device", finding it and showing me the report to be scanned, then cutting right back to "Looking for device" before a scan can occur. Typically it all ends now with "The device is disconnected." I have tried different computers (all up-to-date Windows 10 OS), different cables, and rebooting numerous times while the scanner is on and while it is off. Not so happy with the scanner that does not scan anymore! This product is outstanding and easy to use once you find a good CZUR instruction video on-line. The instructions that come with the product are almost useless. Initially it seemed the product was defective until I viewed a tutorial on-line. The "systems disconnected" error was due to not knowing that the scanner needs to be turned on first - push the round knob on the platform - that also adjusts light level - down for about 2 seconds until the blue light on the platform is solid and not pulsing. Many comments on-line indicate others were experiencing the same problem. Once operational, you can copy two pages of a report about every 10 seconds using the auto-detection mode for page turning. Experiment with the light level before copying to make sure the print is clear when saved. PDFs can be made searchable.
- Anton2022-01-11Best scanner for fast scan of any books
Great scanner. I threw away the tablet scanner and get to this scanner. 1. Quick scan. For 200 pages I spend no more than 20-25 minutes 2. When auto-scanning, the program watching when you flipped the page and scans after 2 seconds. 3. The program does not scan if you stop flipping (for example, I went to drink tea). 4. Helps from scan complex reports on a typewriter. The program selects the mode. 5. The program itself removes the yellow page holders. 6. I took it with a battery, and why not. Laptop + Scanner = Mobility. 7. Often with a son we use it as a lamp. But the scanner is not very suitable for high-quality photos. But for this, I use a different tablet scanner at work. This scanner is the best invention of the last decade. Now you wont lose your rare books. In a couple of days, I easily scanned 7 books. Very much I recommend!!! Im thinking of a backpack for him now.
- not good2021-05-27Piece of junk
This is another piece of junk from China I hope Amazon put my review on the Website. Every time I said pieces jump from China Amazon does not put my review It doesn't work at all, It would not crop it would not remove that little thing you put it on your finger to make the pages flat, The colour is terrible, It's not at all fast like the advertising, freeze a lot. Videos included. Receive the product on 5-26 -2021. My Samsung Galaxy S9 Is scan better than this for free. Update I returned the product 2 months ago and I still did not get my money back, And you have to download the software from Internet God knows whatever you scan where it goes
- Kindle Customer2022-11-24Great Book and All-Purpose Scanner
A close relative passed away, and our family found a treasure trove of old photo albums dating back to 1914. Most of them were fragile, so we knew we could not use a flat-bed scanner to digitize the images. We purchased this CZUR scanner specifically to save the old images and be able to share them with other family members. We have had the scanner a little over three weeks now, and we have used it almost daily. The setup instructions are few; however, if you follow them exactly as laid out in the manual, everything will work. We use it with a Windows 10 laptop and have had no issues with it at all. There are a lot of options that come with the software, many of which we have yet to explore. We have been very satisfied with the basics - scanning the album pages and editing them.
- NSiriG2022-08-12Don't hesitant! Great customer service and product
I originally bought the scanner as a used on Amazon. It brought within 3 months or so before it broke. I was extremely bummed we use the scanner almost every other day. Literary going from having this scanner to not was disappointing as it has made working/ studying from home so much easier. I was skeptical of the warranty and needed a scanner that I also bought the cheaper CZUR Shine800. Thinking I would be given the run around for a replacement and it would take too long. I am glad I was wrong. The customer service was outstanding and I received a brand new replacement without much fuss about a few days after I already had the CZUR Shine800. I was still well within the 30 day return policy and could have returned the CZUR Shine800 BUT both my husband and I both work from home and due to the needs of our occupation we use it both scanners. I prefer the Aura. The software is better and scanner quality. It is a lamp that sits on my desk. My husband prefers the simplicity of the Shine. He often has to lug it around from the home office and into research rooms. The Aura to him was overwhelming with all the bells and whistles to be moving around so much.
- D Rosley2024-03-16sheeesh, the manual should have included this.
wish the manual included how to turn the blasted thing on??? nothing in the manual, nothing in the youtube videos, finally read the very small print near the only button, the increase brightness/decrease brightness, the tiny print it says to hold the button down for 1.5 seconds or more to turn it on.... wow, now it works.
- Thomas G.2020-08-10Scanning is fast, processing is slow
Once you get an idea of how to use the item, it can actually be very easy to use. However, if youʻre planning to use it as a portable scanner as itʻs advertised, there are a lot of caveats they leave out of the itemʻs description, that if I had known beforehand, I would have not purchased it. First: yes, the Aura Pro X can scan pages very quickly, and even has an auto scan feature that makes it very easy to do. But for a book that might take 5-10 minutes to scan, you can anticipate the software to take 20-30 minutes to "process" the images on a typical laptop. The software is VERY processing intensive, and if youʻre planning on using this portably, then your typical laptop is going to take a long time to process the images. After your scans are done and the file is process, THEN you are allowed to edit. There are options to crop, color correct, adjust the laser lines (which donʻt always seem to record). The batch processes are a good idea, but the execution is pretty awful. You can batch crop, but only one page at a time or the entire document. Say you have a 300 page book that you scanned in 10-15 minutes, some of the scans might include some of the mat, and others cropped the mat out. So if you want to correct the 40 or so pages that cropped the page incorrectly, you have. to do them one at a time. It would be helpful to have a "crop out black" option to crop out the mat on all images that the scanner incorrectly scanned. I stopped trying to use the foot pedal because sometimes I would scan and the scan would go through on the device, but the software wouldnʻt import it, but you wouldnʻt know that until the importing/processing was done. I resort to using the autoscan feature because its the only way to properly verify an page has been scanned. All in all, the total time to have a decent scan of a 300 page textbook can take up to 90 minutes: 10-15 minutes to scan, 30-50 minutes to process, and 30-50 minutes to edit. By that point, your scanner is out of battery if youʻre using the Aura X Pro with the 3000 MAH battery. For the advertised purpose, this item is slow, clunky, and fickle. I found that using my much faster desktop remedied some of these issues, but if Iʻm going to spend $350 on something that advertises itself as a fast, convenient scanner, I would hope that it would scan things fast, and conveniently.
- James C. Lang2022-04-12not much documentation and you have to be aware of where you are in the program
Once you figure out where you are(which screen you are on and what that screen does) and get it set up, takes about 10 min. the first time, it works great! copied several large documents, and a few books to forward as digital files. waited a few months got it out of its excellent carry box (really well though out packaging,) set it up and copied yearbook pages for reunion project. excellent value for the cost.
