I have to admit, I am very impressed with the quality of this. And for the price I'm seeing, the value is unbelievable. I have an Apple pencil used for the iPad, and that's what I'm comparing it to the most. There are a lot of key differences, some of which give this the edge in usability. First to notice is that this is solely used for Surface tablets. It'd be nice to use these on other Windows products like Chrome books, especially since you don't have to pair or unpair it like Apple pencils. But if you own a Surface, then you're good. Note that there is a list of compatible devices. I tested this on a display-model Surface. Another thing you'll want to note is that it takes a few seconds to power on, even though the manual only says 1 second press. Once you turn it on though, you can use right away on any compatible device. The unit has a good heft to it. It's not too heavy, or too light, and fits in hand easily. It's also easy to access all the side buttons. Speaking of side buttons, it's impressive how the functions are laid out for intuitive use. You access the erase feature by holding down a button, rather than double-tapping the side of the unit. Once you get used to it, it's almost easier. I'm assuming most of the target audience will use this for art creation and design. If that's true, this will be a must-have for those purposes. It's just as accurate as Apple pencils, and impressively doesn't even need to make contact with the screen, which can prolong the life of the tip. An area it does miss out on is the tilt-sensitive functions Apple devices have. From what I've seen in the Windows programs where you can use this, you can customize brush strokes some, so it won't be missing too much for average use. But, if you're a serious designer, that may feel like a gap. Overall, I'm highly impressed. I only got to play around for a few minutes with it, but since the time I got it until the day of this review, I haven't charged it, and the battery seems to be doing fine. I can't imagine battery life being much of an issue. I highly recommend one of these for every Surface owner; even if you aren't using it for art, they're just fun accessories to have, especially for the price.
- Joshua Watson2024-05-16Amazing value, but with tilt/parallax issues
This pen works great out of the box, no pairing needed, though you do need to turn it on by pressing the top button until the green light turns on. Writing on a surface pro 4 and then a surface laptop studio. Compared to a gen 3 surface pro pen (that's the silver one with a pen clip and purple buttons), this pen has slightly lower sensitivity range, more parallax difference (though you can eliminate most of that with calibration or by not tilting the pen when you write), and is a little nicer to hold. Tilt is recognized in applications like krita, but the tilt messes with the tip accuracy slightly. The rechargable battery is a big plus over the other pen, and the buttons all work as intended with no setup. Compared to the surface pro slim pen 2, this thing is clumsy, far less sensitive, and has very noticeable parallax drawing issues, especially when tilting the pen while writing at an angle that is not close to 90 degrees. I think most people don't write with a straight up and down pen so most people will notice this issue. Again, you can fix some of it with calibration, but that requires you to always write with the own at exactly the same angle or the issue is back again. I think it might be possible to fix the tilt issues with software, but I'm not sure how one might do that. Due to the parallax/tilt issues, I wouldn't recommend this for serious graphic design or drawing, but it's absolutely adequate for writing and general use, or for casual or beginner level art. At a price that is way less than half of the Microsoft OEM stuff, this is a great backup or budget replacement. It would get fewer stars if it cost more, but at this price range, this is a great value.
- MiGeek2024-06-19Works with my Surface Tablet
Review for "Milikilo Stylus Pen for Microsoft Surface Pro 9/8/X/7+/6/5/4/3/Surface 3, Surface Go 3/2/1" This works well with my surface tablet. The way it writes is similar to the original pen I bought with the tablet. This pen comes with two spare tips and a USB-A to USB-C charging cable. This is different than the original pen I had which charged wirelessly via the surface cover. To turn the pen on you touch the button and the green light will come on. The pen automatically turns itself off after 10 minutes of being idle. Pros: Works well, seems to write well Cons: Needs to be charged separately (not wirelessly via the surface cover). And since my tablet does not have a USB-A port (it only has USB-C ports), the provided charging cable will not work from my computer. Not a big deal. I would recommend this since it worked well for me but I only use pens on my tablet for presentations and not for any extensive drawing and have not used tried it out for more complex drawing (just don't need to).
- Joseph J. Betz2024-06-01Less than 1/3 price of Microsoft's pen.
I will be a very light user of this, I am not an artist or graphics guy. So to rate this on a functional level, I'd have to know how you intend to use it. For my use, the occasional scribble on a OneNote page, it's fine. Of note is that it uses the Microsoft Pen Protocol (mpp) and if your tablet doesn't, this is not going to work for you. Tested with a 4 year old surface, it does just fine. Tested with an HP x2 2012 tablet, the HP shrugged and didn't even bother saying "what's that, I feel like something is trying to talk to me". So job 1 before buying this is to know whether or not your hardware supports the Microsoft Pen Protocol. If you have an actual Microsoft Surface of almost any vintage this will work, and will store nearly on the side of the surface with built in magnets that matte up with magnets on one side of the surface tablet. DO double check your hardware if it's not specifically listed in the supported models. Overall good at a small fraction of OEM cost.
- UnderWaterSuperHero2024-06-06Wrong Pen for Me
This didn't work for my needs, because I ordered the wrong type of pen for my tablet, but it seems like a decent economy choice when selected for the intended devices for the occasional, non-pro pen user. The body of the pen is made of finished metal (probably aluminum), the control buttons and tip rattle around a bit, but otherwise, the saying that "you get what you pay for" applies here.
- Trigger2024-06-10Worked out of the box with Surface Pro 7
No configuration required. Just click it on using the upper button and it's ready to use. It's a little longer than the original pen but a bit thinner. Accuracy is good enough and can be improved by recalibrating in Settings. Unlike the OEM pen, it does need to be turned on to use which takes a bit to get used to after years of using that original pen.
- Benny2024-06-10Works well with my new computer
I got this stylus because I didn’t want to pay $$$ for the real Microsoft one for my new Surface Studio 2 laptop. This was easy to charge and is nice and lightweight. It does stick on the lower lip of the laptop where the genuine stylus is supposed to be stored, but the bond seems a bit weak. I’ll definitely keep an eye on it to be sure it doesn’t fall off when I move the laptop. For the price it’s a good replacement for navigating on my new laptop.
- David2024-06-10Highly Functional Stylus Pen
This stylus pen is fantastic! It works perfectly with my Microsoft Surface devices, offering precise control and great palm rejection. The tilt function is a nice touch, and the eraser side button is very convenient. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a high-quality stylus.
- Derby City Dad2024-05-20Works without bluetooth
I just upgraded from the Surface Pro 6 to the Surface Pro 9 - my old pen was lost months ago in an airport somewhere, so I needed a pen for my new SP9 and didn't feel like paying for an overpriced Microsoft version. This pen works without a bluetooth connection, so there's no pairing headache. I don't use the pen too frequently, so a lower cost alternative like this pen is all I need ... at $32 (plus an extra 40% off at the time of this review) this does the trick. One thing I’d point out though is that this pen will not fit in the storage tray on the Microsoft Surface Pro “Signature” Keyboard (the pen is longer than the slot, which is designed for the new … more expensive … slim pen)
- D. Chan2024-05-08comperable or better than the OEM
This Stylus Pen for Surface is a solid choice for those seeking precision and style in a stylus. While it may not match the comfort of the OEM pen made for the Surface, it certainly holds its own in terms of performance. What impressed me is the pen's accuracy and responsiveness. The fine tip allows for precise control, making it ideal for detailed tasks and creative work. The sleek design adds a touch of sophistication, and the build quality is commendable. However, it's worth noting that the comfort of the button falls slightly short of the OEM counterpart. While the tactile feel is satisfactory, those accustomed to the OEM pen's comfort might notice a difference. Despite this minor drawback, the pen remains a reliable and stylish accessory for Surface users. Its performance outweighs the comfort compromise, especially for those who prioritize precision and aesthetics in their stylus. If you're in the market for a versatile and visually appealing alternative, this pen is a worthy consideration.
