- T. Garrett2023-11-10These are EASY to place and set up, just about as good as HUE.
I bought the first of the 2 16.4’ light strips about 6 weeks ago to run alongside of the stairs to assist my older dog when coming down the stairs. I didn’t have high expectations. The sticky backing on these work perfectly. No problem there. I added the KASA APP from the App Store and found these a snap to set up with the app. They are very bright and great colors. I then bought another set for under my home bar, same great experience. I use both with an Alexa smart plug. I bought the expensive HUE light strips for above my cabinets several years ago. They work well, but the sticky back wouldn’t stick, plus I had to buy a bridge device. All told, over $200.00 for the HUE setup, $36.00 for these. I highly recommend them.

Purchased and installed these for under cabinet lighting in our kitchen. The physical installation was easy, the tape strip adheres well to the underside of the cabinets. I completed the setup with the Kasa app before I installed them. I was unfamiliar with the Kasa app but it went smoothly. Also set it up to work with Alexa and that works awesome as your are able to turn the lights on, off, or change colors with Alexa. They also have all kinds of smart settings and scheduling as well as different light show effects.

I own several Kasa Smart devices - bulbs, plugs, and switches. I now purchased several of these lighting strips, both single and double, and they're quite amazing. I was able to install each in 15 minutes to half an hour depending on it's application. The colours are brilliant and the ease of grouping them and scheduling them is near perfect. Contrary to what some others have said about the ability to stick properly, that was not my experience - perhaps if you are attempting to stick to a flat painted wall, but for wood or glossy flat surfaces I believe you would not have that problem. I mostly have Lutron switches for my overhead lights, but Kasa is my go-to for any other type of lighting. I highly recommend the light strips as well as all of Kasa's products.

Needed lighting for my closets and underneath my kitchen cabinets. Originally I had purchased a knockoff brand (twice actually) and the lights did not work (both times). I bought these as a last ditch effort before giving up on light strips altogether, and honestly I'm kicking myself for not doing it sooner. They're a GAME CHANGER. I was getting dressed in the dark like an idiot. The lights work great with the app, and the app itself is intuitive and provides some fun features and presets. You can save up to 5 presets per light strip. You can also divide your settings by rooms in your home, which is a useful feature..I included some screenshots of the app for the nerds. Have yet to test if the app can turn the lights on or off when I'm not at home, but they work well in the apartment. One thing I did not realize is that when you buy the 2 strips it only comes with 1 plug, they are NOT a complete separate set of 2. Bummer, because I had planned to put the lights in 2 different rooms. Regardless, I'm buying more.
- Hugh2021-12-13Important Installation Tip for all Kasa Products
I have several lightbulbs and light strips from Kasa. TIP FOR APP INSTALLATION - MIGHT SAVE YOU AN HOUR: Getting the app installed and recognizing my light strips was super easy. However, my wireless network never showed up in the list - - this is because Kasa bulbs and strips don't connect to 5 GHz routers. - - - this is NO PROBLEM though because almost all 5 GHz routers have 2.4 GHZ dual band So on my home network, I have one wireless network set up for 2.4 and one for 5 (when I first set up the internet it asked if I wanted to do that but that was a few years ago and I forgot I had both). If you have both set up connect to your 2.4 wifi. If not it's easy to do with most routers. ----Also it might just be me, because I'm not super technical --- I was afraid that because my Alexa is on the 5 GHz WiFi and Kasa is on the 2.4 GHz they wouldn't talk to each other -- but they do. Another cool thing about these lights is you can group multiple lights into a group. So I have 4 in my living room and when I come home I can just say "Alexa turn the living room Blue at 50%" and it turns all the lights on in the living room at 50% in blue. Super cool lights. Enjoy!
- TubaTim2024-04-29Basic LED strip. Works well, WiFi sketchy.
I bought this because I like the Kasa plugs and switches I bought. I wanted under cabinet lighting and this would fit nicely into the already existing Kasa universe at my home. They installed well and are bright. The colors are vibrant and come with some simple effects. Configuration was easy, and adding them to Home Assistant was not difficult. The app is also very easy to use. After having them installed without any issues, they worked great. I implemented a few automations in Home Assistant and the LEDs worked consistent as expected. Then came the WiFi disconnect and the whole string becomes unavailable for days. Removing power does not help. Moving the controller does not help. Eventually the controller forgets the WiFi information and I have to add it back to the network using the app. The first time this happened, things went well for a couple of weeks… And then the unavailability comes back. This time a factory reset and added back to WiFi with app. It worked as expected. Just recently, the same WiFi problems are back. It would not respond to anything… Power down, switch push, it just remained on. I did another factory reset, connected it back to WiFi, and it is inconsistent. I purchased this because of my experience with the Kasa in-wall switches which have been rock-solid. I also use the Kasa plugs, which have very occasional unavailability. The KL420 and KL400 have frustrating WiFi consistency.
- Parkensly2024-05-26Great value
Light strip works well and integrates into the Kasa app perfectly. My kids loving this as an accent light in their rooms & I love that I can control it via the Kasa app.
- Mikejboss2024-06-04Nice lights but don't fall for the hype...
I bought the strip with 2 reels of lights. The instructions are very basic and there are a couple of things you should know prior to setup: 1. Plug in all the strips in your box prior to activating. I plugged in just one strip and wound up with 2 strips of the same name down the road. It was easy to fix but for a while I thought that's just the way it's supposed to be. 2. You must start the install of every strip at the same phisical location. You can't run one strip halfway around the room and start the 2nd strip at the end of the first. 3. If you want your room to look like what you see in examples and favorable reviews then make sure lights are pointed up or down in spaces that hide the LED from view. Otherwise you'll just see a bright bunch of LED's without that glowing up/down lighting. The commands to your assistant are really the same you use on a color smart bulb. The Kasa app can do some cool tricks; your android assistant can not. "Control smart light strips using the leading voice assistants," is the kind of marketing hype that winds up in dissapointment. Yes, you can control them in a limited/generic way but you are unable to access the unique features using a voice assistant.
- AE2024-05-27Great for Office Backlighting, but Could Use Independent Control
I like the Kasa Smart LED Light Strip for adding backlighting in my home office, which looks great on video calls. There are two strips, but they have to be on the same schedule, so I'm only using one for now. I wish they could operate independently with their own routines. Overall, a good product with room for improvement.
