Died after 1 week use in an outdoor environment

I should have believed those reviews saying the lock would fail the first time it rained. Only lasted less than one week. Update: After two days of drying out inside a warm area, with battery cover removed, was able to get lock to function again. Not reliable. I would recommend the electronics be separated from the mechanical parts and waterproof sealed, currently they are NOT!!! Also I am unable to delete the failed lock from my account. Apparently you can only delete a working lock. Not acceptable. Update*** Customer service was very responsive and resolved my problem promptly. The new version 2 of the lock is outstanding

Battery died in 2months with only one unlock per week

Update: The manufacturer replaced my lock under warranty and said the behavior was not as expected. I now live in a cooler climate, and have the lock indoors, but am happy to say that the battery is still pretty full 8months later with several uses 5 days a week. Updating review and rating to reflect the new lock and customer service. Original review: I want to love this lock, but the battery died in just two months with only one unlock per week! The first one I received, the silicone cover ripped instantly so the manufacturer sent me a replacement at no charge. However when you put the silicone cover on it is impossible to see the buttons unless you are in a dark environment. This cause chaos with our lawn service company trying to unlock the lock. Eventually, I had to take the silicone cover off then to find that the batteries died so I had to use the 9V recovery power to get it unlocked. This is unacceptable for an outdoor lock. Had our lawn service came out and the battery been dead, I would have had to pay the service charge even though they weren’t able to access my lawn. Maybe this lock would do well in an indoor environment such as a storage facility, but I cannot trust it as an outdoor lock.

Dead lock, terrible customer service, need a sawzall to cut it off

Update April 14, 2023 After my last review, the lock inexplicably responded to the seemingly millionth try with the 9 volt battery and we were able to unlock the padlock, open the back with the torx tool, and replace the battery. We managed to live to see another day replacing the battery once a month until today. This morning, despite having reflected a battery percentage of 80%, the padlock refused to respond to a code. We were locked in. Multiple 9 volt battery attempts were unsuccessful. To the padlock's credit, using a bolt cutter was not successful because of the hardened metal. Ditto using a jigsaw with a metal blade although that one seemed to make more of an impact. A family member who is an electrician also tried following the simple "jumpstart" instructions on the igloo home video but they were not able to get the lock to respond either and opined that it was probably defective. The only way out was using a reciprocating saw with a diamond blade to cut through the lock. It's officially dead. This lock was really great when it worked. It looks like the newer version - Padlock2 - uses USBC with a rechargeable battery so if you want spin the wheel of chance and spend money on igloo products, AVOID the padlock that requires the 9 volt battery to jumpstart. Igloo is of no help when it fails. And it will fail at the most inopportune time. -------------- This lock lasted 14 months and then failed. Customer service was no help and said "regrettably" the warranty period had expired. While I liked this lock a lot when I first got it, Nov 2022, I would advise everyone to stay away from iglooHome products because 14 months is unacceptable. We used this lock on a driveway gate and added the silicone cover. The ability to have it detect your arrival (bluetooth location) and unlock was great. Access through the app worked fine. As we approached the year mark, the battery died without warning. The app kept saying 100% battery but clearly that was not the case because the lock went from working to completely dead. This occurred at the worst time because we could not open the gate to get out. After multiple efforts and two people, we were able to use the 9 volt battery to get it to allow us to unlock in order to change the battery. iglooHome makes it seem like jump starting the lock is a simple process but the contacts at the bottom of the lock to not make a good connection to the 9 volt battery so this process is actually quite the ordeal. Once we got it open and changed the battery, all seemed fine except a mere 3 months later the lock is completely dead and will not respond to the 9 volt lock. Chat with customer service was a complete fail with the rep saying that regrettably the lock is outside of any warranty. STAY AWAY from iglooHome products.

    Happy with lock(update)

Bought this lock without seeing in the description that it is for outdoor use. Put it on my chain link fence in direct sunlight and full exposure to stormy weather. The lock has held up great for 7 months. Battery reports as full to date. Looking to buy a few more of these for use else where. I read the reviews before purchase and this lock seemed like the best of the worst of it's kind but I'm convinced it is the best of the best in it's class. Update: a little over a year has passed from my initial review. My unlock/lock button stopped working today. The app still works to unlock though. Without a working keypad I'm not sure how long I will keep using it. Overall I still like the product it has lost points for durability

    Excellent customer service

Great customer service ! Our first Igloohome padlock stopped working after just a month or so, which was being used outdoors and exposed to rain. It was actually a padlock for our college age son so I had him contact Igloohome for help and resolution and so he could learn to navigate retail problem solving. Igloohome customer service was amazing. My son wasn’t too sure what to do or say and they were very patient and helped him every step of the way… Oh, and when you call their customer service phone number, an actual person answers! AND it is THE person who can actually help you! No transferring or escalation… or reading from scripts … an actual person with extensive knowledge and understanding of their own product and how it works AND the authority to make decisions! All in one person who answers the phone! Yes, this is a true story though it sounds like just a fairy tale. Marie from Igloohome followed up with an email as discussed, right away. Within minutes. There was a brief exchange of practical info and everything was made right…. Within a few days, my son received his new replacement lock and a free silicone cover. They remained in touch with him throughout the entire process to ensure he received it and was satisfied. Wow. Marie at Igloohome provided excellent customer service and turned our frown upside down! Thank you Marie! If only more companies had a Marie…! Oh, And the lock works great. Buy the lock. Buy the silicone cover. (If using out of doors) Bye Marie! Thanks for your excellent service representing your company! C & T

    Do not use outdoors

I purchased this to put on a storage trailer on 4/8. The original lock I received had a battery that lasted only a week or two. I thought the battery was bad so I bought a 5 pack of Panasonic CR2 batteries to replace it. The second battery only lasted a week or two. I opened up a support case to get the lock replaced on 5/14 and they said it was because moisture was getting into the lock. 10 days later I received my replacement lock and they provided a silicone cover to stop the water, which I used religiously. Everything worked fine for about 2 months and the lock quit working again. I had to use a 9v battery on the provided emergency ports to get the lock off. The 9v ports are annoying because they don't quite line up with the 9v battery so it's a struggle to get the lock opened because you have to hold the lock, fiddle with the battery, and also be able to type in the combination at the same time. The lock has been sitting in my dry house for a few days until I finally found time to put in a new battery. Even with the new battery, the lock didn't turn on and the battery started getting extremely hot so there's a short somewhere. This thing is obviously screwed up so I decided I'm done wasting time with it and threw it in the trash. Overall, the concept is good but the execution failed miserably. I'm frustrated and disappointed. I would get another lock of this type in a few years once someone figures out how to make one that is rain tight. Also, I'd incorporate an on/off switch on it for people who don't want to replace their battery often. I use this is on a trailer in the middle of nowhere that I need to open once a month. There's no need for it to be eating battery power 99.9% of the time.

WINTER / LOCK FROZE UP AND STOPPED WORKING.

I had this lock for a year now and this winter 3/1/2023, the lock froze up and the battery died. In the notes, it said we can use a separate battery to charge the lock so we can unload it but it did not work, so I had to use bolt cutters to cut the lock off. I left it inside to warm up and once thawed out, I replaced the battery and the locking pin, and now the lock stopped locking . I tried to reset the lock but the only thing its doing now is making a lot of noises but not locking.

Pretty good for what it is, great support!

I have two of these locks. I received one as a gift last Christmas (2020) and purchased another this year. Both were used outside, both with the silicone cover. The first one was put on my fence gate door since December of last year, and I have had 0 problems out of it. The second one was put on my shed door (which is arguably covered more from weather) and unfortunately after the storm from Ida (TN, so no actual hurricane) came through, would not work. I replaced the battery and it worked for a day, but then died again. Support was fantastic though, and sent me a brand new lock the next week with a silicone cover! I really can't complain about that. Very few companies these days just send you a new product no-questions-asked with no payment from yourself or proof of damage. I really like that they trust their customer and take care of them like that. For the product itself, it does the job I needed. It's "smart", but most of the convenience of "smart" products are not actually present in this lock. The BT range is pretty low in my experience, and I have to be right next to the lock for anything in the app to work. So, this works a lot better if you just wanted different access codes for different people, or just want to log who goes in and out. It's not the best for unlocking something while you're away. Overall, for what it is, I'd recommend the product.

Really liked the lock, but stopped working after 1 week.

I purchased the lock 1 week ago. Today it completely stopped functioning. Thought maybe it was the battery. No luck, still dead. I did notice moisture was in the battery compartment and it had rained the day before. I double check to make sure the battery compartment was closed properly and it was. There are 2 dots that show you if battery compartment is open or closed, mine was closed and sat flush with the lock case. I will say the lock was working great. The setup was super easy and worked just like it should. It feels like a quality made lock. Not sure that it is because of the premature failure. Overall I feel the lock is a good product so I am currently returning this one and reordered a new one. I will update my rating once I get the new one and have it for a few weeks. UPDATE: 2ND LOCK DIED TOO. Lock states it is IP65, apparently not. We have the silicone case installed. After one rain shower last night we tried to open and the lock is DEAD! My opinion the lock is good for indoor use only. Both locks died after being outside and it rained the night before. Definition of IP65: An IP65 rated enclosure gives protection against low pressure water jets from any direction, as well as condensation and water spray. It’s suitable for most outdoor enclosures that won’t encounter extreme weather such as flooding. My lock was not subject to flooding, only rain. So according to the IP65 rating it should have been fine. Unfortunately not so.

    Just an OK lock

Overall the lock is sturdy and does it’s job as a pad lock. Sturdy and well made. However, for the purpose of being a “smart lock” it falls a little short. I bought 2 of these for my fence and to give access only to certain people (myself, family, lawn and pool maintenance, etc) and to know when they access the lock. If you create a permanent code, the lock won’t notify (in the log) you when that person or code is being use. It only logs it when the lock is being accessed via Bluetooth connection. To me, this doesn’t make sense. The software should be able to recognize and log when ANYONE is accessing the lock in whichever way, for the owners protection and piece of mind. Hopefully, Igloohome can include this feature in an upcoming update as to me it makes the most sense. Not everyone may wane to download the app and keep it on their phones or take out their phones to access the lock.
