As a professional security camera installer, have been asked to install them for home owners. Came across this camera and specs looked really good for personal use. So to Plus the cost is affordable for most; espically if you can find it on sale. The video can be displayed on both Alexa and Google Home devices for easy monitoring as well. For these reasons, I have recomended and installed this camera for several home/personal clients. The app is easy to use and set cameras up. The downside to this camera is power! Only wish the cable was NOT ATTACHED to camera. Because it's attached permanitly I've had to drill large holes for a USB-A fitting to passthrough. Would have been nice if the power cable was a USB-A to USB-C because then the hole only has to be big enough for the USB-C end. There are a few times the mothion sensor is too sensitive or not sensitive enough.

This is the best outdoor security camera I’ve ever had! It is recording 24/7, others are motion detectors with continues recording which only record 60 second. It also has siren and led light that comes on at night when detect motion. Perfect size. Wish it has usb c or an instead of buit in wire, so i have to get extension cord from my garage to get power supply. Installation is pretty easy too. KASA won’t disappoint you, I have 4 Kasa camera now. Great cameras!

I have a slew of the Kasa smart outlets and they’re excellent. Cheap and just work. I watched these cameras for a long time before trying a couple. I’m glad I did. I got them on a good sale, around 42$ each. My buddy who is a professional security camera installer is blown away at their picture for a camera at 1/4 of his pro cam cost. Picture quality: The night vision is incredible. That’s usually where the picture quality lacks. Picture is crisp and clean when night vision is on. What is even more impressive is the cameras ability to use what light it can pickup at night and keep color and clarity. I have a streetlight that is in my neighbors yard and I don’t use night vision on 2 of my cameras because it can use the available light very well. I will say, I run these on 1080 as I don’t see any real difference at 2k. But just remember, it depends on the screen you’re viewing it on. For me, 1080 is plenty. Spot light: It’s pretty good. Not “impressive” but impressive for something that is running on 5V USB. Siren: Yup, it makes noise. You can even set it to initiate all sirens on your network at once. Siren and Alert settings. YES you can turn both off when motion is sensed. I don’t know what people are doing where they can’t turn that off. Motion sensing: Pretty slick, you can set a irregular squares to areas of interest you want notifications. For example. One cam captures the street, but I only want my walkway. So I set that section to only alert if movement is noticed in that area. Even nicer, you can set up to 4 different sections. Noise sensing/notification: Far too sensitive even on the lowest setting. A good gust of wind will set it off. This is nitpicking, but wanted to address it. All my noise sensing is turned off. 2 way communication. It’s OK. Not great. You can hear the people through the camera OK, but the speaker to them is not that great, but again. 42-50$ it’s very good. I will say, it’s possible that when you’re talking through the camera you mouth is far away from the mic on your phone because you’re also watching the video feed. Install is straight forward. Mount anywhere 110v is within the 10’ reach of the cord. I bought a 50’ USB extension cable to power one of these cameras where 110v is not nearby and it’s flawless. Can probably power sufficiently with even longer USB extension. Micro SD card storage: It’s ridiculous that TP-Link hasn’t accurately answered this question. At 1080, the 24/7 recording is approx 12gb a day. So a 256gb card formats at 219gb. Which translates to 18 days of 24/7 recording. The takeaway, at 1080 it takes 12gb a day. Different picture quality will increase or decrease the storage requirement. Saving from SD card. Again. I don’t know where the issue is. When a notification is received the on screen prompts shows you if it was a person or movement. Touch one off them and the software jumps to that event and starts playing. On the screen you’re watching there’s a “RED RECORD BUTTON” touch that, and it starts to record that selection of video to your phone. You can record anything, not just an event. But the event notification just helps locate the times something happens. Easy. No problem. Stop whining! For those that can’t figure that out, if you need to pull the SD card for insurance or police, you have a legit reason! You won’t be pulling the card daily. Ending thoughts. If you’re interesting in an inexpensive but high quality camera, look no further.
- J. Douglas Linn2024-05-26Excellent purchase.
Easy to set up. Works VERY well. Had a power dip and lost the infrared and spotlight functions. Went to the web for help. Took off little protective panel for SD card and right beside it is a little hole for the reset button. Used a safety pin tip and held the button down 15 second's, resetting the camera and then reinstalled the camera. Works fine. The video is excellent. Love the color at night when the built in spotlight comes on after a motion detected.
- MonkeyJoe2023-07-31Excellent Budget Outdoor Camera - A Weatherproof Gem!
I recently purchased the Kasa Outdoor Camera, and I must say, I'm extremely impressed with its performance and features, especially considering its budget-friendly price tag. From the moment I opened the box, I knew I had made the right choice for my home security needs. Installation was a breeze! The camera came with straightforward instructions that made setting it up a snap. I opted to wire it through our window screen to plug it in inside, and it worked like a charm. This setup allowed me to keep the camera safe indoors while still capturing clear and unobstructed footage of the outdoor areas. One of the standout features of the Kasa Outdoor Camera is its impressive weatherproofing. We've had a few heavy rainstorms since I installed it, and the camera didn't miss a beat. Its durable design ensured that it remained fully functional, even during adverse weather conditions. The camera's video quality is surprisingly good for its price range. Daytime footage is sharp and clear, while the night vision mode provides adequate visibility in low-light situations. I particularly appreciate the wide viewing angle, which covers a substantial portion of our outdoor space without any distortion. The Kasa app is intuitive and user-friendly, making it a breeze to access the live feed or review past recordings. The motion detection feature is reliable, sending timely alerts whenever any activity is detected in the monitored area. I also love the peace of mind provided by the cloud storage option. Knowing that my footage is securely stored off-site gives me added confidence that my property is well-protected, even if the camera itself were to be tampered with. In conclusion, the Kasa Outdoor Camera is a hidden gem in the world of affordable security cameras. It's easy to install, weatherproof, and delivers impressive performance. If you're looking for a budget-friendly outdoor camera without compromising on quality, I wholeheartedly recommend giving the Kasa Outdoor Camera a try. It's an excellent investment for your home security needs!
- Amazon Customer2024-06-28Love them!!
This is my 2nd set they work great for the price. Crystal clear, night vision is very clear. Awesome product. Would buy again
- Olivia2024-05-28Works well enough
I was able to command strip this camera above my door, for those who may be wondering. Drill isn’t 100% necessary. The night vision is great, except when I turn the light on in the app, all vision goes away. Only other downside is I get frequent notifications for “motion” when it’s my plants blowing in the wind. For the price, though, I highly recommend. I have the indoor and outdoor cameras and they’re both easy to use and set up. No failures yet
- Thomas E. Stephens2023-08-16A disappointment in several ways
I bought a pair of these to put up outside and monitor our alley. After spending an hour getting the first one working and seeing how it performed, I sent both back. The good: The packaging is sturdy and well designed. Despite one of the boxes getting a little crinkled before it came to me the contents were in great shape. The cameras are visually appealing and not as ugly as some I have seen. The wiring and installation hardware are all well set up for an easy mount to get you going quickly. Setup runs through an app, which is easier to fix and update than printed instructions. So maybe future purchasers will get a better experience if/when some of the app deficiencies are addressed. The bad: The app software setup is kind of junky. For example, I typoed the network password on my first try and there was no way to fix that short of resetting the camera, (not that the app identified that) which involved removing a couple of screws and accessing the SD card slot, which has the reset button, poorly labeled, beside it. Connectivity is horrible. While the camera boots pretty quickly it takes a fair bit of time for it to connect to the network and when it transmits video, it's plainly laggy and the camera responds to things like motion very fast but transmits the video only after a long lag. This test was performed on a network with no other burdens on it and I tested other cameras both before and after this on the same day without those cameras having connectivity or lag issues. Several times when I sent commands to the camera via the Kasa app I received timeout errors, etc - while the camera and my phone were about 15 feet from the wireless router and my phone was showing full bars of WIFI strength. The SD card slot is not labeled to indicate which way the card should be turned when inserted. That would be a simple 50/50 elimination IF the camera didn't consistently fail to read the card over and over. After following the pictures and tech support article on the subject I did get the card to read twice, but after cycling power on the camera it subsequently failed to read the card with no other changes being made. So to recap - the SD card slot is directionally unlabeled and seldom works even when you have the card in. Oh yeah, better format the card on your PC first (even though my laptop said mine was formatted already, reformatting was the only way I ever got it to be recognized by the camera) to even get that much recognition. Not that the app tells you that either. SD card slot again - the card slot does not lock the card in. The camera depends on the screw on cover to retain the card, and presumably hold it in the right position to maintain a connection. I found this to be cheap and annoying, and above all - I couldn't tell WHY the card wasn't being consistently read - was it the connection components, the software, or alignment from the cover at fault? A simple spring lock would have at least removed one complexity from this equation of "what's the cause?" The USB cord has a type A plug which increases the hole size needed for the cable to pass through significantly. While It could be argued that a single piece cord is part of the IP rating and I concede that single piece is great for solid connections, a design that doesn't make the user drill a hole 10x larger than the cable for the cable access is more important. Overall, I compared this camera to some that I have been running for over a decade and it seemed like a downgrade in almost every way. The lack of a solid connection and the inability to consistently read/write the SD card eliminated this as a possible camera for the me to use to monitor the security of our alley. I never got far enough to even assess and rate the night vision capabilities because the basic functionality of the unit was so lacking as to make it unusable for any purpose at all. I gave it a couple of stars because it had no odor and good packaging and it didn't make stupid noises at me. Also because Amazon has a smooth return process which shouldn't really be worth stars on a product but so totally is when I no longer have to look at a failure like this.
- Matt2024-06-01Initial impressions are positive
I've had this camera up for about a week, and the only issue I've had, which is likely related to the firmware or Kasa software and not the camera itself, is that it detects animals as people which triggers a false "person detected" alert. Other than that issue, which hopefully will be fixed soon, I've no real complaints. The image is decently crisp, but gets pixelated as you zoom in, which is to be expected. You can see someone's face clearly from a few dozen feet away, but you may struggle to see a license plate at 100 feet, but again not really an issue because this is meant for closer viewing. Perhaps my biggest complaint is that the USB power adapter is a typical stick style that come with indoor products, which doesn't really work well with outdoor covered outlets. I'd buy it again.
- Amazon Customer2024-06-29Easy to use! Great quality!!
So far, we love these cameras. We should have bought them years ago. Easy to install!! We bought 2, one for inside to check in with the dogs while at work and one for outside. We’re hoping the one outside survives the winter storms.
