Perfect smart switch for many outdoor uses, I use it mainly for Christmas season to control all my Christmas lights and this changed everything forever so I don’t have to worry about turning or plugging ON/OFF my lights. The schedule function is extremely convenient and easy to setup to make all your lights completely automatic, work really well and is compatible with all my Google Home devices and Alexa

I’ve been using this smart plug for over a year now and it’s been great. ZERO connection issues and it’s been outside the whole time (covered patio). The plug has definitely gotten wet (not completely soaked) and hasn’t had any issues. Very easy to use with Google Home and easy to connect to. Comes with outlet covers if one of the plug isn’t being used. 2 buttons on the outside to manually turn on each plug separately. Seems to be made from quality materials. I own 2 and haven’t had any issues with any of them. Used 100% of the time, every time of the year. From summer to winter. No issues.

I got a few of these to be able to control our outdoor holiday lights and the string lights on the porches. We previously had solar sensor timers that would come on at dusk and stay on for 2, 4, or 6 hours, however I set them. But because the lights were plugged in on different sides of the house, they received different amounts of sunlight and they came on and shut off at different times. With these outlets, I was able to schedule everything to come on at the exact same time, and shut off at the exact same time. We leave certain light displays up longer through the winter than others and being able to change the lighting schedule with my phone and not having to go outside to fiddle with individual outlets has been a dream. We leave string lights on the porches most of the year and I am able to easily change the schedule so they come on later in the day as the days get longer and we still have daylight until 6pm, then 7pm, etc. We have a rental property where we use Heat Trak mats to melt the snow and ice on the porch and I added an outlet there so I can turn the mats on only when it is snowing or if there is freezing rain. Although I choose to schedule our lights at the same time, each of the outlets can be managed independently. I will be adding one of these double outlets to our small pond to be able to manage the pump with one outlet and the lighting around it separately. These outlets have given me peace of mind and make outdoor lighting SO much easier to manage.
- M. Turano2024-05-18Kasa is my preferred light automation for the house.
I bought 2 of these for running Christmas lights. I think Kasa is the most responsive and reliable of the dozens of home automation options on the market. Open the app and press a button and immediate response from the device. As with the dozen of other Kasa products I have running in the house, this one worked well. Easy to schedule or add to my already existing routines. I like the sunset/sunrise built-in scheduling option, it makes outdoor light scheduling super easy.
- Kindle Customer2023-12-23Kasa Outdoor Smart Plu
The Kasa Outdoor Smart Plug is a sturdy, reliable device that works when you need it to and doesn't cost an arm and a leg. PROS Works with Alexa, Google Assistant, SmartThings, and IFTTT Easy to set up with intuitive mobile app Affordably priced for two-outlet device CONS No support for Siri or HomeKit No power usage reporting Should you buy it? Yes. The TP-Link Outdoor Smart Plug is sturdy as heck, easy to set up, and offers two smart plugs in one device, and honestly, that’s all you need out of a product like this. It gets the job done reliably and I didn’t want to throw my phone through a wall while trying to get it to respond to Alexa and Google Assistant. For only twenty bucks, this is a solid deal, particularly given that comparable options are often in the “much more than $20” range.

This thing just works. I mean, every time. The app is easy to use and, above all, easy to set up. I had it running in just a couple minutes. I don’t understand why other manufacturers can do this. I had purchased another wi-fi plug a week earlier (BN Something) and I spent an hour trying to get it to work with my WiFi to no avail. Looking into it, I think it might have been due to my dual band router which runs 2.4ghz and 5ghz. That product—and this one—are both stated to only work on 2.4ghz. Whatever. I’m not a big techie, so I don’t know the details, all I know is that the Kasa plug didn’t give a crap. My system recognized it instantly and it was a breeze from there. I’ve been using it for a few weeks to operate a back patio fountain and it never fails. Even my low tech wife who thought my WiFi controlled fountain idea was silly is now converted. I installed the app on her phone and signed in using my info. Viola! It worked for her in about a minute. Now she’s hooked. I even got an apology, which is a whole different subject. Another plus with this WiFi outlet over the other one is that each of the two outlets can operate separately to run two different things. I’m still trying to figure out what to hook up to the second one—maybe my bug zapper or something. Again, the app is easy to use to do this. Pick a button and press. If you’re on the fence deciding which Wi-Fi plug to buy, get off of it and choose this one. Kudos to Kasa for designing a product that does exactly what it’s supposed to with no aggravation. I would absolutely purchase again and probably will.
- Robert E.2024-05-15Nice Outdoor Smart Plug
I was looking for an outdoor smart plug to compliment my indoor smart lights. Found this Kasa smart plug which is app controled and easy to download and set up. It was also easy to connect to my Wi-Fi and works perfectly as described. I have set a schedule for my lights to turn on and turn off and it has two plugs that operate independent of each other. I recommend.

Love these Kasa plugs. I have several indoor ones and now this outdoor one. Works well with Alexia or even without through the Kasa app. Setting up the timer on the Kasa app is a little tricky to do. I use these plugs for Christmas decorations as well as my regular lights. Nice that you don't need to be at home to control your lights. Have pets at home and forgot to turn on the light for them because you won't be home before dark, no problem. Go on the app and turn them on.
- Christos2024-07-02Works Great with Alexa
I have had so many wireless devices over the years and some have been a real nightmare to get them connected to my network. And I'm a retired IT professional with years of working with WiFi technology. Some of these devices are down right demonic. Even after initially connecting, they'll drop off and require you to reset to factory defaults and start over again. Not so much with the Kasa line of devices. They connect on the first, or maybe second try, and stay connected. They work seamlessly with Alexa so you don't need to open a different UI for each different manufacturer, and they are Smart Things compliant.
- cho2024-06-08Works great when connected to Apple Home
I product this recently to automate my outdoor lights. This smart plug is Matter compatible, which is why I chose this verses the other Kasa Smart plug with HomeKit support. Works seemlessly with KASA app. Setup was very easy. I also have this device added to Apple Home, setup was easy with that as well. The issue I have with this is it keeps disconnecting from Apple Home randomly. And the only way to recover from this is to remove the device and re-add. Device can still be controlled from the KASA app during this. This is a little bit annoying to keep removing and re-adding to Apple Home where all my automations are. I have reached out to TPlink support for this issue. With a few emails back and forth, it was concluded that I should update to the new firmware for the EP40M device. Not sure about the version# of this new firmware, because I already have v1.0.2. Waiting for a response from the support team on the specifics. Will update here once I hear back. Btw, the TPlink support was very prompt in responding to my issue.
