    Easy To Configure & Set-Up

Finally, a product that's easy to set-up and configure! And, it actually functions as-it-should consistently. Instead of having an instruction manual, the quick-start sheet instructs the owner to (a) download the Kasa application to a smart-phone, and then (b) follow the step-by-step set-up directions inside the app. These devices communicate with the app via the owner's Wi-Fi network (the LAN). No need to be concerned about lagging Blue-Tooth connections. No need to program a timer or a clock, since the device continuously receives the correct time (for whatever time zone you designate) from your own Wi-Fi network's router. Yes, I feel comfortable recommending this product to others. Even if you use MAC-filtering, you can add the MAC address of each device to your list! No problem!

    Automate everything with ease

The Kasa Smart Plugs have become an indispensable part of my home automation and device management routine. I have acquired several of these smart plugs and utilize them for a wide range of applications, including controlling lights, dehumidifiers, space heaters, holiday decorations, and even a custom-built device that periodically warms my chocolate (affectionately dubbed the "Choclidor"). One of the standout features of these smart plugs is their versatility. I can effortlessly schedule activations or control them directly through the intuitive app, ensuring seamless integration into my daily routines. Additionally, I have found them particularly useful in managing devices like TVs, Fire TV Sticks, and Echo Shows, which often require periodic power cycling to maintain optimal performance. By setting the smart plugs to power off these devices for a brief period every night, I've eliminated the need for manual unplugging and replugging, ensuring a fresh start each morning without any hassle. The setup process for these smart plugs is remarkably straightforward and user-friendly, allowing for a hassle-free integration into any smart home ecosystem. The affordability of these devices is a significant advantage, making it accessible to incorporate multiple units throughout the home without breaking the bank. The accompanying app is comprehensive and intuitive, offering a wide range of customization options and seamless control over the connected devices. In my experience, the Kasa Smart Plugs have proven to be incredibly reliable, consistently performing as expected without any need for resets or troubleshooting. While my experience with these smart plugs has been overwhelmingly positive, it's important to note that individual experiences may vary. However, based on my thorough usage and extensive testing, I can confidently recommend the Kasa Smart Plugs as a versatile, reliable, and cost-effective solution for enhancing home automation and device management capabilities.

    Easy, fast setup. Works well.

Pros: Super easy and fast to set up Works well Works with Alexa, Google Home, IFTTT Cons: No Apple Homekit A bit more difficult to set up Google Home than other devices This Kasa smart switch by TP-Link was a pleasure to set up. I had it set up literally in less than 5 minutes, and about as long to link to Alexa and Google Home. The set up instructions are really nothing more than a card telling you to download the Kasa app on your smartphone and adding the switch to the app. The set up is easy. As with most WiFi controlled devices, the device goes into AP mode for configuration and then into device mode for operation. Unlike other devices, and seemingly any that support HomeKit, it simply has you connect to that access point on the phone, then go back to the app. The app connects to the device and scans WiFi. You select the WiFi SSID (network name) you want, enter the password, and done. At this point the switch can be controlled from the app. To add Alexa you select the Works with Kasa option in the app, select Alexa. Then enable in Alexa, and done. Google home is a bit less direct, and a bit more clumsy than other devices, but still pretty easy. You need to go into the Google home app, add a device, search for Kasa, then log into Kasa, then configure. A few more steps, but overall not that bad. It also supports IFTTT, and Samsung Smart home that I didn't set up. It does not support Apple HomeKit. That is probably why it was easy to set up. I really would like to be able to use HomeKit, but almost nothing works well with HomeKit. The whole set up with the code mostly doesn't work, and if it does it then gets disconnected. This brings me to why I bought the Kasa in the first place. I had a WeMo (Belkin) smart switch, the equivalent product to this. I couldn't get it to connect after multiple attempts. I called WeMo support (surprisingly a human on a phone). After well over an hour I was finally able to get the WeMo to connect, then get it to connect to HomeKit, Alexa, and Google home. Great. I had the switch in an easy to access socket to set up. I unplugged it to move to where it needed to be and the WeMo stopped connecting to WiFi. After factory resetting the WeMo I was able to get it to connect back to WiFi, but as soon as it was unplugged and plugged back in, it wouldn't connect again. At this point I just gave up and ordered the Kasa based on other reviews. It was night and day to set up. Similar to the WeMo, I used an easy to access socket to set up, then unplugged it and moved it to the location where the light to be controlled is. With the Kasa, no problem. This is the same location, and the same WiFi network. The Kasa works. The WeMo doesn't. Part of the problem is HomeKit. HomeKit compatible devices use the HomeKit set up on iOS devices. Some devices sort of let you bypass this, with the WeMo being one of those devices. This is how I initially got it to connect with customer service, by connecting directly to the switch. If it fails though HomeKit recognizes the WiFi AP as a connected device for at least 15 minutes. You need to wait 15 minutes to try again. The whole thing is a mess. I really like Apple devices, but HomeKit is just way more trouble than its worth. Ironically, the only device that I've found that works with HomeKit is a Sony Android TV! That TV now controls the light plugged into the Kasa switch with Google Home. Again, the setup on the Kasa was really easy, the way it should be. The competing WeMo was hours of frustration with no results. This was the second WeMo (it was part of a 2-pack like the Kasa), and the first one was also difficult and unreliable. Unless you absolutely can't live without HomeKit, buy this Kasa. The Kasa just works.

    Amazing Smart Plug!

I recently got the Kasa Smart Plug Ultra Mini, and it’s awesome! Setup was super easy – I just plugged it in, opened the Kasa app, and followed the steps. Took me like five minutes, tops! Voice Control: Works perfectly with Alexa. I can just tell Alexa to turn my lamps on and off, which is super handy when my hands are full. Scheduling: I love the scheduling feature. I set my fan to turn off automatically at night and my coffee maker to start brewing in the morning. It’s really convenient and saves energy too. Remote Control: Being able to control it from anywhere is a game-changer. I can check if I left something on and turn it off from my phone, no matter where I am. Compact Design: It’s small enough that it doesn’t block the other outlet, so I can use both plugs on the same wall socket. Safety: It feels really reliable and safe, which is important since I use it for a variety of devices like my heater and hair dryer. Overall, this smart plug is fantastic. It's made my daily routines much easier. Highly recommend it!

When it works, it's great; when it doesn't, it's hugely frustrating

I have six of these now and they are very useful even in a small apartment for automating lights, fans, and computer equipment. I live in a small studio. I use these partly to turn off my computer equipment so the LED lights don't make the room bright at night. The smart plugs themselves have their own bright LEDs, though! You can get a separate app (Watt, not Kasa) that lets you disable the LEDs (turning on "night mode"). Occasionally one of these smart plugs is hard to set up, meaning you have to work through the setup sequence a dozen times or more, resetting in between. Of six that I set up, three had this problem. Two eventually worked, but it takes a few minutes to go through the whole sequence, so you can waste an hour or more if you get a challenging one. The last one I tried to set up didn't work even after 40 tries over three days, meaning several hours of wasted effort. I happened to get a rating request from TP-Link while I was working on this. I detailed my frustrations and they helpfully offered to troubleshoot and replace the plug when it was clear that the standard process wasn't working. The process for replacement is that you first exchange several emails with them, where they ask for the serial number and other details. Once they confirm it's not working, they issue an RMA, then ask you to enter the same information you already gave them via email on their website. Then you need to notify them that you've done this, then they send you back to the website to enter your address and choose how to receive the replacement. This entails mailing the non-working plug back to them at your own cost, or choosing the "convenience" option that costs more than just buying two new ones from Amazon. They are very friendly and helpful, but the whole process takes a couple of hours over several days of back-and-forth. It definitely wasn't worth the time or effort for me — much better to just order a new one than waste so much time after already wasting hours on the initial setup. I got sucked into it step-by-step since it wasn't clear at the beginning how complex and time-consuming the return process would be. Bottom line: 1. The standard app should allow you to enable night mode/turn off LEDs (the Watt app does this, so it's definitely possible). 2. Don't bother with their RMA/Return process unless you've bought something expensive — it's a huge waste of time (although as I said they are friendly and reasonably efficient at responding at each of the many milestones in their hugely burdensome process). UPDATE: I let the company know I didn’t want to proceed with the RMA because it was too much of a hassle and they made an “exception” and sent me a return label. So really helpful service overall with a kind of clunky process. SECOND UPDATE: I finally got the replacement and was able to set it up on the first try. Everything is working fine. Again, the company was patient and kind through the whole interaction and eventually helped solve the problem.

    Excellent smart outlet.

I purchased two Kasa mini Wi-Fi plugs. The integration was easy after downloading the app. Both are in my attached garage about 50 feet or so from my router. They had no problem with the Wi-Fi signal like my Chamberlin OH door operator did. Easy to control and schedule. I have a Lutron hub and smart switches and outlets at another location and like the system but these are excellent for an inexpensive quality solution to control a load. I am using them to control a golf cart charger and battery maintainer while away for 6-7 months. Working great so far.

Easy to use device to automate your home for a low price.

These had the lowest price I could find for a product that has the most good reviews. They work perfect. I can control them through my app and I set the schedules easily with the app. If I forgot to turn something off while I am away from the house, I can just open the app and turn it off. Or if I want something to be turned on early and ready for when I get home, this helps with that. I love home automation. The Kasa app works good, doesn't cause any issues on my Android phone. I am happy with these.

Flexible remote control. Requires HomePd, AppleTV box, or dedicated iPad as a hub.

You will need the iPhone app KASA to register. ALSO IMPORTANT you need a Homekit hub running 24/7 on your wifi network (I use my AppleTV box). Configure through Apple’s HOME app (I installed a two-pack). Each plug has a tiny QR code on one end. Awkward to use. In the box comes a sticker with 2 QR codes matching each plug. Use these. Do your setup where your wifi is. Best to just plug new one in anywhere that’s easy to access and work in-I did mine in my kitchen. Then tap button and blue light will come on. In HOME app choose “+” and scan appropriate QR code on included sheet that matches tiny code on the end of the plug. I numbered the QR codes for sanity and sharpied corresponding number on each plug. Much better than attempting to scan tiny awkwardly located QR code on the device while it’s plugged in somewhere ! Once it’s added to HOME, you can edit the name for ease of management. Rooms etc. are easily configured in HOME. Works great with SIRI. As long as you remember plug’s name. Big PLUS once you’ve set up in HOME its settings are retained internally and you can unplug the smart plug and move it around. Plug it in anywhere and in a second it’s back on the network.

    Easy setup

The thing to remember is to follow directions lol or like me, it might take you awhile to figure it out. DL the app and open. Follow the directions. When they say go back to your WiFi and open up the device, that mean to do just that. I installed one and a few days later, the other and no problems. These devices only works on electrical devices that do not require physically turning back on such as a fan with a rotary mechanical switch or a lamp for example. If the device turns on and off when you plug and unplug it, it will work. It will not work on most digital switches which many new devices use including fans, heaters, dehumidifier’s that physically require you to turn it on from a standby mode.

    Works well

Could not wait to utilize, set up plugs. One on the living room lamp, the other to control the LED undercounter strip lights in the kitchen. Pairing with the Kasa app was relatively simple and painless. Also paired with Google Home, so I have my choice to use either app or Google Voice to control remote plugs. I was sceptical at first, especially when it comes to certain technology like this. However, I have fully embraced it, making my life much easier. Controlling the living room lamp is very easy instead of relying on a timer to turn lamp on and off. All of this done while in bed. It takes several seconds for the kitchen lights to turn on, living room lamp turns on and off almost instantly. Been using for a few months and that is my only issue so far. I did have to reset them when the power went off, a minor inconvenience. They definitely have made my life easier.
