- D. Edwards2023-12-22Works well with LED lights
Bought this to control our under cabinet LED lighting. Works great! So nice to fluctuate brightness to have lights automatically dim when going to bed and bright when waking. Plus, the voice control is great. Installer was as easy as any dimmer device you’d buy from a store. Competitor products have the same limits. I like that one reviewer pointed out that a white wire must be present to use. Some wiring will leave white wires near the lights and then only have the black wires go down the wall into the switch. In those situations, this switch won’t work. It needs constant power to maintain connection. Without that white wire, that’s not possible. Great product! Thankful a product on the market is finally at a more reasonable price and is still reliable.

Simple and works great!
- GP2024-04-14Works well and integrating with Alexa was a breeze
I bought two of these. I installed each and once installed Alexa “found” them. I am using a schedule for one of the dimmers on Alexa and it works flawlessly. Hard to find fault with these dimmers. The only caveat is that the dimmers are not 0-100%. They dim 0-20, 20-40, 40-60, etc. So, a little less granularity than others, but they work well.
- LeComptes2024-02-08Excellent, easy to use and install Smart Dinner Switch
I've purchased and installed Amazon Basics smart dimmer switches (both 1-pole and 3-pole) throughout my home. They're easy to install, easy to use, well-built, and extremely easy to integrate with Amazon Alexa. Once a switch is installed, it can be added to Alexa by scanning the UPC code on the switch itself but I've never had to do that because in each case, Alexa auto-discovered the switch shortly after turned the power back on. In terms of use, the switch controls are intuitively placed and easy to use. There's a large button on the bottom of the switch that also contains a small built-in amber light that illuminates whenever the switch is turned off. This extremely helpful when looking for the switch in a dark room. Above the main on/off toggle button there are to smaller buttons that are used to increase or decrease dimming. Above the dimming buttons are a row of green led's that indicate the level of dimming. Finally, these are priced far lower than other smart-switches that contain similar functionality. PROS: Easy to install, thanks to the included instructions. Excellent quality. Intuitive design and very easy to use. Small LED's that indicate switch status (on/off) and dimming level. Effortlessly integrates with Amazon Alexa. CONS: Not compatible with google home. If it was, I would have given this 5 stars. The switch is a bit bulkier than a regular switch. Consequently, it's a bit of a tighter fit in the electric box. But, I've installed over 5 of these so far and have never had a real problem. SUMMARY: These Amazon Basics Dimmer Smart Switches are anything from "basic". They are well-designed, well-built and more competitively priced than any other smart switch I've ever seen with similar features. As a matter of fact, my wife and I like them so much that I'm in the process of replacing almost all of the builder-installed light switches in my house with these.
- Dustin2024-05-28Great for lights, not for ceiling fans
I bought 3 of these to control my backlit crown molding and one to test if it works for a ceiling fan. The great news is they work great as a dimmer switch as advertised. As a fan control, it did function and slow the fan, but it had a lot of noise in the motor of the fan after install. I can knock it because they aren’t advertised to work with them and it was an experiment on my end. Overall I love them and these were the final switches to convert all my lights in my house to Alexa controlled.
- Glenn Benz2023-12-17Device unresponsive
I bought Amazon Basics smart switches for my new home because they don't need a third party app and I generally like the Amazon Basics brand. I installed two and created automation routines for them. Everything worked well for about three months. So I bought 10 more switches for the rest of my home. Then the trouble began. I noticed that my automation routines had stopped working. When I looked at the devices in the Alexa app, they were giving an ominous message "Device unresponsive". Everything I read online said just reset them and they'll work again. It wasn’t hard to do and that did bring them back online. However, the next day the automation failed again. And again "Device unresponsive". For a couple of weeks I scoured the web looking for anyone who knew how to fix this problem. Turns out this is a very common experience and the only "fix" anyone can provide is to reset them. In my opinion, that's an unacceptable answer (and I have 12 of these things). I finally called Amazon customer service. They also had no answer and eventually agreed to refund my money on all of the switches – even the ones I had already installed. This was not the solution I really wanted. I liked the way they looked and how easy it was to manage them in the Alexa app. Now I'm going back to Treatlife. Their app is horrible, but at least it works. From my experience as a cloud engineer, I believe the problem is in the cloud services that support the switches. The devices never dropped off of my wifi and were always sending data back to Amazon. But somehow, the Alexa service was losing track of them. This was a very disappointing experience. I've come to expect a lot more from the Amazon Basics brand. I'll be more cautious in the future.
- David D.2024-05-10Great value for the price!
A regular dimmer switch costs almost as much as this switch. So why not get one that has wifi compatibility for a buck or 2 more. Works great was easy to install and connect.
- nick perez jr2024-06-06Works amazing
Easy setup voice control is great.
- Chris2024-04-04Worked Great. Until it didn't.
Easy install. Very simple setup with the app. Worked great. Integrated into my routines and such no problems. Then about 3 weeks later it failed by not actually fully turning the lights off when set to the off position. They would remain on, just at a slightly lower brightness than the normally lowest dim setting. Resetting and disconnecting power would not correct it. I changed it with a "spare" I had bought to put in another room, and all works properly again after redoing all my routines etc. Since Amazon's return policy is great I'll leave it at 4 stars, but I question the long term reliability now. Hopefully I just got a rare dud. I'm planning to install several of these over my renovations, so if any more fail I'll be sure to come back and update. If no updates, then assume they were fine. Tip: The ones I got are a much brighter white than the "white" non smart Decora switch I got at a local hardware store. I ended up changing it out for one of the non dimmable amazon smart switches so at least the colors match up. (even though I really didn't need that to be a smart switch) It'd likely be fine at opposite ends of a room, but definitely not close enough to be in the same 2 gang switch panel as each other.
- Tyler Forge2021-12-03Easier install than TP link, more difficult set up. Probably just a growing pain.
I've installed a lot of TP Link Kasa smart switches and greeted this Amazon Basics one with a sense of giddy excitement. Yes, actual giddy excitement. The reason is that the Amazon wall clock and the Amazon smart plugs have been so very easy and painless to set up. The TP Link ones are pretty easy, but the Amazon gear was even easier. I'm not so sure about this switch now that I've gone through a full install and setup. First the good - installation was a breeze. The reason they are easier to install than the others is that these ones come with wires and wire nuts for every line. The others have terminals for the hot wire and the load wire. The wire nuts are easier and quicker for my use case. Now the not so good - I whipped out the phone, followed the setup instructions, and no bueno. Next I spent too much time trying to figure out how to set the Eero pro (Wifi router) or the Pixel 5 to use just 2.4 GHz WiFi because that's what the switch uses. I thought that that would allow setup. Finally, I did what the trouble shooting guide suggested - I used a different phone. Specifically, an old Pixel 1. Boom! It worked. It took a minute for the phone to start up. It took 10 seconds for the switch to be recognized and added to the network, the alexa app, etc. Sooo, I'd be totally happy with this switch if I hadn't upgraded my phone to one that's incompatible for some strange reason. But wait - there's more. While messing around with the Eero, I had noticed a device called "First Switch". I wasn't sure what it was but ignored it, intending to figure out what it was later. When this switch finally registered, its default name was "First Switch". Now I'm wondering if the switch arrived already configured for my WiFi network and maybe already on my account. If so, there was no super clear hard to ignore indication like an email, Alexa nagging me, a notification when I tried to set up the device, etc. Now I'm wondering if this switch was so easy to set up that I didn't even need to perform a setup. Finally - a minor annoyance, it would be fantastic if the MAC address was on the switch or something.
