- Robertpatten2021-02-11Best techie toy I’ve seen
This is a great gift for a tech-friendly person. Father’s Day, I’m looking at you. Or you can splurge for yourself. I’ve had it for a couple days and it’s fun! It will be the type of toy that I show off to my friends. I rated it 5 stars because it’s technologically advanced and good enough to be good. But it reminds me of first generation robot vacuums - works as advertised but still needs work. 1. The ball is attractively designed and my puppy hasn’t destroyed it (yet). But I shudder every time he sinks his teeth into it. It’s expensive enough that I will be annoyed if it doesn’t last. Time will tell. It needs to have a replaceable exterior. 2. The auto-play function is cleverly designed. The bone taunts mercilessly and hilariously. But there are 10-15 second gaps in between movements which caused my border collie to lose interest. It needs multiple auto-play scenarios, like workout machines, so that you can play the one that your dog likes. You can adjust the activity-level settings, but that doesn’t do enough. 3. It’s best in manual play, what a blast! The preset command buttons, such as spin, are easy to use and effective. But the joystick was unintuitive and a bit frustrating to me - perhaps a joystick gamer would be better at it. And how the heck am I supposed to know which way the bone considers “forward” vs “backward”?!? 4. It’s much better on hard surfaces. It kinda works on my low-pile rugs, but not as well and struggles to transition between surface types. 5. The battery isn’t very good. You need to recharge it after every play session. Yes, you will forget and it will be dead when you want to use it. Of course, battery life is a problem for everything with batteries, so welcome to the club, wickedbone.

It doesn’t stay connected to phone, have to charge it every time to turn it on, not worth it
- Steven Yanez2021-04-21Awesome concept, poor execution
I really love this thing, and I REALLY wanted it to work for us. We bought it for our 50lb lab mix for his adoption anniversary. He “plays with” (barks at and tries to chomp, playfully) the Roomba vacuum, and loved chasing around a little RC car that my brother got for Christmas. So I KNEW he’d love this toy. And he did! But, it’s too small for our medium dog, and definitely not durable for a heavy chewer like him. I love the idea that the toy can “run away” from him. But, it moves pretty slow and our dog can take one step and pick it up. I thought it would be okay if he does pick it up, because then it would spin and fall out of his mouth, and the game continues. No. If he has one half in his mouth, it stops spinning, and the other half continues. It’s definitely not a toy for dogs that are bigger than 25 pounds. If your dog likes to chase things and not grab them with his mouth, then this toy might be good for you. For us, it was a really awesome concept that, unfortunately, failed in execution. So we did return the toy. If it were bigger - like, big enough that the dog couldn’t pick it up (or at least not easily) - or much faster and stronger, where it would still spin in his mouth so he would spit it out, and he’d actually find challenge in chasing it, I would definitely try this product again. I would be really excited if the company read this review and started working on a larger size / a version more equipped for big dogs & heavy chewers!!!!
- Kat Johanson2020-02-03It works for Oscar, how 'bout you?...
It took a tech toy to fully engage my older dog! While this toy needs a little tech knowledge (the toy is controlled/operated through your smart phone), it is definately beginner level. It comes with a micro USB charger, and instructions. The instructions could be better, but I figured it out. The toy seems well-made, but I will update at a later time. Wicked bone operates in 2 modes- pre-set and manual. You will have to download the app and select the mode. I have to use it in manual, which gives me a control panel of various options on my phone , but I assume other dogs will engage with it in one of the timed presets. My dogs go nuts when we "play" with it, but it just sits in a corner collecting dust if I don't use it on manual and "dare" them to play with it. The positives are that it's well-made, rugged so far, and entertaining for my dogs. The negatives are sparse instructions, and the need to sync with your phone every time you use it, and use your phone whenever it is working. For Oscar, it's worth it!
- Karen P.2021-03-27Great engagement, but not for chewing. Must be supervised.
After reading reviews and seeing some of them really chewed up I was concerned based on the price. HOWEVER, this is basically a remote control dog bone. It’s not meant to be a chew toy in the slightest. I do LOVE it regardless. It is awesome for my super smart, puzzle beating, needs a challenge dog. For a solid 40 minutes she was engaged by it! I drove it around my house using the app and she followed close behind it. Any time she picked it up and brought it to her bed I would hit the jump or spin mode to free myself and I was off again driving it into another room with her hot on my tail! It banged against walls, under tables, and across lighter runner carpets with ease. The interactive mode responded to her pawing at it and was fun to watch, but again it’s a remote controlled toy. No different if you were driving an actual RC Car around your pets. It’s not designed to be pinned between paws and chewed or left unsupervised. It’s meant to offer stimulation and something different other than fetch. We bought the battery operated ball with a weasel on it and although that is also a big hit, she catches it and within 10 minutes before accepting that it just rolls around. This WickedBone allows us to chase her, be hunted by her, and move in unpredictable ways. Highly recommend, but definitely not a toy you just leave out when you’re not in the room.
- nikkie2024-05-14My dog loves this
I like the fact my dog love it but for the amount of play time use sucks. Charging it for an hour still my pup wants to play. I only get 45 minutes of play time out of it. Connection took over 30 minutes to connect to it. The interactive does not do much with my playful baby. And the coordination of holding it to go straight or turning sucks good thing my baby does not care and grabs it to place it where she wants to play lol it cute. I have to add that it is now broken after I charged it now it does not move and in interactive mode it just whistles. Was great now my pup just looks at it waiting for some action.
- Robert Bresky2022-01-13A great toy to keep your dog's attention
The toy is fantastic for keeping your dog's attention and keeping focused on engaging play. The instructions left a little to be desired, but once you figure out how to connect the Wickedbone to your app. it's all good. I found that the interactive mode doesn't engage my dog enough. I prefer to use the manual mode and make the bone jump, twist, run across the floor etc. with me controlling it watching how my dog reacts. She loves this toy. In fact, I purchased a second one as a back-up because this is one of her favorite toys. In fact, she had so much fun with it, we broke into her piggy bank and ordered a third one for her doggie friends across the street. This toy should be played with only with adult supervision. She loves to try and chew it like a bone and there are teeth marks all over the "tires". I need to persistently reminder her not to chew it... she has learned to stop biting it and just lick it instead. Then I make it jump out her paw grip and the fun starts all over again. Play time in the manual mode is about 40 minutes on a full charge.
- Carolyn Sneden2024-04-28Battery and function issues
Even when there's 3/4 battery life left it will not connect without charging. Needs a huge tweak for this issue. Too expensive for issues at hand. I'm really disappointed. Waste of money.
- Alpha_Shepherd2021-03-10Buy this if you own a small dog. Medium and Large pet owners need not purchase.
I’m going to give an honest review, This toy is poorly advertised. This is clearly for small sized dogs. I’m going to give it to my folks who own a little westy. The bad and ugly 1. The durability. does not require “super” biters like the disclaimer warns. It requires the dog to be low-baring and with a small bite force. This product would not last with medium sized dogs or puppies of larger breeds. I should have read the reviews because they are dead right. My german shepherd only played with it for five minutes... and I officially had to stop her from crunching it to pieces. I could already hear the cracking of the plastic. Any dog toy company worth their salt in dog toys knows darn well to use hardened rubber to claim durability. 2. The cost. while I’m not a fan of how expensive this is, I bought it on sale and therefore can say with full disclosure... it’s not worth it’s price. The tech is nice, but it’s a simple remote control function with preset commands that make it move and do tricks... maybe $50 is where the worth is. I wasn’t happy about the demand for the app, for $70 + $100+ the damn thing could have came with it’s own control panel. But here we are... 3. It’s accessory option. The wheels were not intuitive to remove and I almost broke the thing with just my hands trying to remove them. Whoever designed the lock needs to add instructions on how to remove it... i’m still too afraid to pull it apart. And that’s the worst of it. The good The toy itself is clearly designed for smaller animals, the writing is all over the wall in how they advertised with showing a passive retriever and pups or tiny tea cup animals... they’re clearly trying to avoid negative reviews from bigger dog owners. The demographic intended is clearly SMALL DOGS. They just don’t want to exclude the sales of larger dog owners. We were duped ladies and gents... :/ But besides that, the toy works perfectly. Your little tiny accessory animal can now even be more responsibility free as this thing literally has an automatic mode that plays with your dog for you. With no risk to the product being broken, it is money well spent for you! Final say. This is clearly a prototype trying to be sold as an official release... the design is simple and the price is clearly to motivate a second product to succeed this one. Save your money and demand better from this company.
- Joan2019-06-21Not worth the money, sadly.
First, I gave this 3 stars instead of 2 because my dog actually does like playing with it, but that on its own isn’t enough, since my dog also loves cardboard boxes. Problems: 1. There is a connector port that is in the middle of the bone. You use it to charge. There is a tiny silicone piece — I’m talking fingernail clipping small — that plugs in to cover the port. It’s not lost, because I know I put it down on one of two tables, but it is lost because I can’t even see it amongst my clutter. It’s also white and it blends in. Just crossing my fingers that no slobber ends up in the charge port. Would’ve been smarter to put this under the tire. However, 2. I can’t figure out how to take the tires off except brute force which just seems like a really good opportunity to accidentally punch myself in the teeth. This is a big deal because Ruby chewed threw the tires in hours. They are supposed to be replaceable. I certainly hope so. Take a look at the attached photos. We’re a bit concerned about her eating this stuff. 3. Without your phone on it is literally just a plastic bone. It has an automatic mode but the maximum setting is 20 minutes and your phone needs to be on and within 30’. This defeats at least 1/2 the reason I bought it — to entertain her while I’m busy. Further, I think it’s less fun for her in automatic mode. I thought it was supposed to have a “smart” function that learns your dog’s behavior, but it just seems like random movements to me. 4. Battery life is not spectacular considering that it’s made to entertain a puppy. Again, since the maximum session length is 20m you’d think the battery would last for more than a handful of sessions. It charges for maybe an hour or two for maybe 6-10 20m sessions is my estimate from memory. All in all I say save a bunch of money and buy a 10$ motorized bouncing ball toy. Ruby has gone through about five of them but she never gets sick of it and she can use it whenever she wants.
