Oh, The Many Things You Can Do with a Bot!

I have a Liftmaster garage door opener and I am using the SwitchBot Bot as a button pusher on my extra remote control so that I can open and close my garage door using Apple HomeKit and Siri. It works great and is a very inexpensive way to make my garage door a Smart Home device! You need the SwitchBot Hub2 to make this work with Apple HomeKit via Matter but getting it setup is really easy. I highly recommend this device! I may get another one to turn my coffee maker on automatically!

Great for turning my light switch into a smart switch

Switch bot is a great product with multiple features and functionality. The set up needed for my application was simple I downloaded the application onto my phone then I followed the directions in the application to set it up to function the way I needed it to. I used enclosed accessories to hook up my light switch to my switch bot.

I want to like it, I really do. You'll need the hub to really use these.

Ok, let's start with the first thing. These are cute little button pushers. There is something satisfying about the little "finger" popping out and pushing a button. That's about it. If you want to use this with any other smart home system, Google Home, SmartThings, etc., you'll need one of their hubs. Depending on how many "bots" you are using and how far apart they are, you may need multiple hubs. I purchased two of the switchbots and immediately was hit with, download the app, control them with Bluetooth. That's not what I wanted to do, as I have a fairly large investment in SmartThings. So, I sucked it up and ordered the hub. (just the plain square one, not the pretty cloud hub). Both hubs do the same thing, I needed function, not cutsie. I got the hub and tried to bring my two "bots" into my SmartThings universe. This was more painful than it should be. I would add one and then the next and the first would go offline. I don't know how many times it took me to get them both loaded and online at the same time, but it was quite a few. The SmartThings integration said beta or something, but I was able to get them integrated pretty easily. I setup a scene in SmartThings to control them. This is where things could be better. The scene runs just fine, but sometimes the "bots" are asleep or playing video games or who knows what. I get about a 95% of the time working, but there is no acknowledgement message that is sent back so SmartThings just tosses the ball to the "bot" and hopes everything works ok. The biggest issue is just that, if it doesn't work, you have to "sync" the bot back to the app manually. So, if it doesn't turn on the device, and SmartThings thinks it is on, then you have to turn the device on manually or the next command will do the opposite function. I have a pretty good success rate on the first action, it does ok turning the devices on, it's the off that I get about a 95% on one bot and 50% success rate on the other. This is ok for what it's doing, but if it was some mission critical device I was trying to control, 50% success is pretty low. Would I buy them again? Maybe. They do mostly work, but keep in mind that you'll need a hub to control these "bots" with anything other than your phone, and within Bluetooth range to do that. Since there is no positive or negative feed back (ACK/NAK) to your smart home, it's about as reliable as telling an 8 year old to wash the dishes. Now for more on the hub, I got the smaller square hub, but it has a really annoying bright white light that stays on all the time, I have this in my bedroom so I have to put something on top of the box to cover the light. You can still see the box "glowing" so I can tell it's on. Not the best thing I've added to my smart home, but it tries and sometimes works. I just wish there was someway to get an acknowledgement to my SmartThings universe, so I could reliably tell the status. I get that it's a digital world trying to interface with the analog world, but it could be just a bit better.

Works well but connecting to Hub is not straightforward

I attached this switchbot to a remote control for my LiftMaster gate - a heck of a lot cheaper than buying the real thing. Put the remote with the bot stuck to it in a front window sill in range of the gate, and placed the hub right next to it. Works perfectly. Hooked into Alexa so I can open the gate from anywhere for deliveries and guests. FYI, you can set the length of time the finger pushes down, which is not something you can easily find in the description. This is important because my gate will only recognize a remote signal after it has been pressed for at least 1 second.

    Poorly Designed…

I was excited to try this device out to use on my front porch light. I always forget to turn it on and off and feel bad when Amazon deliveries come, and it is so dark for them receiving the product. I had all of the parts and follow the instructions to set it up, the problem is that the “pusher” piece goes much too low. When using this on my light switch, it pushes too far into the wall, which caused behold of device to keep popping off of the wall. I tried installing it in many different positions on the light switch, but no matter what this was a design issue and could not be fixed. I thought this was a complete waste of my money until I decided to try using Gorilla Tape to pad the device and make it stick out further from the wall. 3 pieces and then the extra adhesive sticker made it just the right fit. The app seems to be working and I will see how the scheduled timer works tonight, however, I would not order this product again because I should not have had to go through all these extra steps and use additional products to get it to fit.

    Works Great !

I have a very nice ceiling fan that works great but to reverse the direction I had to get a ladder and flip the little slide switch on the fan motor, I couldn't simply take a long stick and slide the switch because the light kit on the fan blocks the slide switch as the light housing is wider than the motor housing. I installed this switchbot and connected it to the slide switch with a piece of stiff music wire and it works perfectly. Works simple and flawlessly, paired up with my phone almost instantly, LOVE IT !!

    Turn Dumb Devices Smart!

First, you need to THOROUGHLY read the description and its comparability. I did not and it did not suit my original purpose when I bought this. I knew that you needed a Hub to be able to use it with Alexa. However, I did not read into its type of switch compatibility. Specifically, it’s not designed to work with capacitive type buttons or touch screens. In my case, capacitive. Now I will note, after searching the web, people have been able to get these to work with those type of buttons by utilizing aluminum foil, HVAC tape, or other combination of metal, etc. in my case I was able to get it work, but very very inconsistently. So I gave up and figured I wasted my money, but quickly realized I was able to repurpose it for something else and I love it. In addition, the Minihub, is the hub I bought with it which, is also a IR remote, so you can turn devices that can be controlled with a remote (non-Bluetooth) and turn those smart too. So ultimately, very happy with my purchase. One issue I did notice when attempting to make them voice assistants compatible, specifically with Alexa. When doing the account linking and it taking you to the SwitchBot login page to link the stuff to the cloud, the username is case sensitive. So if you capitalized anything in your email when you created your account, make sure you use that when logging in to link it, otherwise will keep saying account doesn’t exist

Pretty good, but there might be better options

For nearly 4 years my garage door opener hasn't worked properly. It's an older model and it keeps getting unpaired with the remote. Garage door repair person said we need a new system, but we are going to remove the garage doors entirely in the next couple years so we didn't want to waste money. Welcome the Switchbot Smart Switch. Instead of paying hundreds on a new garage door opener, we spent around 30 or so for a swith to press the garage door button for us. It works pretty well. The app is not the easiest thing to use, but once you download it, the switchbot will automatically get detected as long as your bluetooth is on. From there, you can set up a password for it, then you'll need to input the password again it's set to connect to the system. At one point, something went wrong and I couldn't get it to connect, there's a little button on the inside of the switchbot to reset the bot back to default. I pressed it, but it didn't actually reset the password, but it did get me to a point where I could connect it back up to my phone. This is just a heads up, in case you do need to reset the unit back to default, you may need to hold that button a little longer, I'm really not sure since the reset didn't work for me out of the box. The second issue I had was getting the bot into position for my garage door button. I setup a metal bracket across the garage door opener, and zip tied the switchbot to it. Once in position, I activated the switchbot and a little arm swung out, but fell short of actually touching the garage door button. There is no way to lengthen this arm, so my fix was to take a small adhesive pad and cut it to size. Once I did that and stuck it onto the unit, I was able to have the switchbot hit the button, and the rest is history. It works like a charm, and I can open my garage door from anywhere inside and outside of the house, once again giving my garage door the functionality I had been missing for so long. Some other issues, though, you can't simply connect this unit up to alexa. The unit needs a switchbot hub, which is an additional cost. In the app it gives you the opportunity to turn on alexa integration, but if you don't have it connected to the hub, this selection is grayed out. That means that I can't tell alexa to open the garage. I'm not wasting money on a hub. The battery it uses isn't a common size. It has only been a few weeks of daily use and I haven't had issues with the battery dying yet, but I don't know how long it will last. So far this unit has worked for me, but there are others that have adjustable arms. Had I not found a fix to make this work, I would probably have returned it and gone with one of those, but I'm not going to complain. Just keep in mind what you're planning on using it for, and make your decision based on that.

Convenient and Effective Solution for Smart Lighting Control

I recently purchased the SwitchBot Bot to control the light switch in my bedroom, and I'm incredibly impressed with its performance. Setting it up was a breeze - just a few simple steps and was able to connect it to my Bluetooth without any issues. The SwitchBot Bot works exactly as described. With just a tap on my phone, can easily turn my light switch on or off. It's incredibly convenient, especially for those times when forget to turn off the lights before leaving a room. l also appreciate the sleek and compact design. It fits perfectly over my existing light switch without looking bulky or obtrusive. Plus, the adhesive backing makes installation a snap - no tools required! Overall, highly recommend the SwitchBot Bot to anyone looking for a simple and effective solution for smart lighting control. It's reliable, user-friendly, and adds a whole new level of convenience to my home. I'm extremely satisfied with my purchase. Though it does have many purposes and can't wait to test how it works on other things as well!

    rocky setup, no wifi (updated)

UPDATED REVIEW - i just want to comment that the company’s customer service is spectacular. in response this review, they reached out in an effort to address my issues and offer solutions. i increased my review to 4 stars because customer service is critical to the overall product experience. *** ORIGINAL REVIEW *** BAD UI EXPERIENCE & TOUGH INITIAL SETUP: got a few of these to turn porch lights on/off while on vacation. i have rocker switches. the app UI is terrible and couldn’t detect the bot at first all night. i decided to sleep on it and try again in the AM. it magically connected! so trying to get the little dongle (that adheres to rocker switch) on the the bot was challenging with the first one as i didn’t realize i had to manipulate the settings first to get the switch to remain out. after i finally got the first one installed and working to my satisfaction, i was able to get the second one going in less time. NO WIFI: my only other gripe is it’s not wifi compatible. not so much of an issue since i can set timers but it would be nice to control the bots when not within bluetooth distance. SUGGESTIONS: improve setup instructions to make the experience less frustrating for people. also , modify the app. it’s not very intuitive.
