- Kristy2022-08-23Great signal strenght and easy to set up
In the past, our house doesn't let WiFi through the floor between the 1st and 2nd story. We have tried quite a few "WiFi extenders" with no real effect. The TP-Link however, has no problem reaching through the floor/ceiling and filling every dead spot with a strong wifi signal. And it was very easy to set-up. Highly recommend.

Replaced a Netgear Nighthawk, which was an expensive POS. I have begun live streaming TV, finally cutting the cable, and have 400mb download right now. Am going to upgrade to gig now, because I can actually get the benefit with the Deco 9. So far best performing home router I've owned.

No instructions whatsoever. Strike 1. Will add to this review after the install.
- Chris2022-05-24Great mesh system for everyday use!
Overall, this is a pretty great mesh system for your every day use. The setup and install is pretty straight forward. Didn't have any issues getting signal and connecting my devices to them. I have a pair connecting my 2300 sq. ft home. The main one is on one corner of the second floor and the other downstairs, middle of the house. I even get signal in my backyard which is about 80 feet away. Only issue is that the router has a USB port in it. What is it for? You would think you could connect an external hard drive to it but nope, tech support pretty much dismissed any plan or use of that port. Kind of pointless if you ask me. Why not use that port to allow for an External Media device? Well, that's pretty much my only issue but overall, great system that works well.

- Michael27562020-09-22Make your whole house one Wi-Fi name
I bought this because a friend of mine has it in his house and I helped him set it up. Before I used to just have the cable companies router and a Wi-Fi extender. The problem with that system was is that the extendere and the router had 2 different Wi-Fi names and you had to change from name to name as you went to different parts of the house. With this has one name throughout the whole house and is very easy to set up. It has very good parental controls that you can set up to limit your child's use of the Internet. Instead of fighting with my son about when hes done playing xbox I just shut it off. Also the 2nd and 3rd unit can be used to plug in a wired device like Tivo Mini. I did find the 3 pack of this device on costco.com For cheaper then this to pack.

Integrating the M9 unit with my current M5 setup was easy! I don’t use z wave or zig bee devices, so I can’t comment on that. I do like the fact that it is a tri band system and it works with my current system. What I would appreciate is an expanded address reservation. I need a lot more than 16 reserved addresses.
- MeDad2022-12-06Well it is secure and it works, but...
Our house is about 1600ft². This was bought to replace a Taotronics Mesh system which hasn't had an update some 2019. I wanted something a little safer, yet not too expensive. Gripes- It doesn't give me the ability to choose my own channels for 2.4Ghz & 5Ghz . The link between the main mesh and the second one is weaker than the mesh it replaced. We use AirTV. The signal came through, but was blurry alot of the time. Never had this issue before. This two piece mesh system could not replace the 2 piece AC3000 mesh system. Praise- I was able to program it to the times which I wanted the Wi-Fi down. I felt that it was blocking stuff from our hardware. Whether it actually was is another story, but it felt good. Overall it wasn't what I'd hope it will be. I'll most likely start looking for a Wifi6e which I was hoping to avoid doing.

There are a whole lot of mesh systems out there today; many more than when the first systems were released. Manufacturers are jumping on the bandwagon and releasing half baked products on a routine basis. This is one of those releases. I got into this mesh space after using Apple Airports for the past 15 years when Apple announced they would no longer update nor produce the Airport line of products. Time to look at newer "better" technologies. I have had Eero's (do not recommend) and both M5/M9 series products to date. 1. Setup is sort of straight forward, you must use a mobile app to both initialize and complete a setup. This is becoming a common process amongst all manufacturers. I guess they believe no one has a computer or understands a web interface for setups. The iOS app for these devices is very slow to connect and discover. Even after the setup is complete, reconnecting back to manage the devices takes 30-60 seconds while you get to watch a spinning wheel. Several times, the app has to be forced closed and restarted just to connect. 2. The M5 series will not let you define your own subnet. I long ago stopped using 192.168.0.x or 192.168.1.x instead opting for something way higher up the octet range to stay away from all the neighbors wifi - who apparently all are on 192.168.0.X! With the M5 series, you cannot change the default/auto selected??? public IP space. Since I have dozens of devices with predefined IP addresses already, this was a non starter from the get go. No, you do not read any of this in the very sparse documentation available on the 'net. So, the M5 series went back and I ordered the M9 S (Pro) series instead as reviewers indicated you would be able to select whatever IP space you wish - a need a moderately advanced person may have. 3. M9 series: Same problem with the mandatory use of the mobile app. Slow, clunky, but eventually you will get there. My next challenge lay in Port Forwarding. I have 17 cameras on my property so I have predefined specific ports on these cameras to stay away from defaults and give each camera a unique footprint/signature. It turns out that the M9 series, while you can choose you own IP space will only allow 15 entries in the port forward table. What???? You have to be kidding me. Again, a non starter for anyone with a moderate need for advanced networks. Additionally, while the cameras that were defined showed up quickly in the monitoring app, after less than 30 minutes, none of the cameras could be reached externally. No amount of resetting the router, cable modem or mobile device ever brought back the ability to see the camera feed. It was like something blocked them after a few minutes (Trend??) but never alerted or showed they were blocked. Perhaps port forwarding is a new skill at TP-Link? At this point, I have RMA'd both the M5/M9 series back to Amazon. As for the advanced features such as built in Trend Micro for 3 years, I can say little as I did not have them installed for more than 48 hours. I will say that the M9's generated several alerts of "quarantined" devices that I had a difficult time determining what actually was the event that quarantined them as no one was actually using those devices when they became quarantined and functioned just fine when used. I also rate tech support a 1 star as their FAQ/site could use a bit of work. Never bothered to call anyone as first line support would be absolutely clueless beyond "Take two reboots of the cable modem and call me in the morning". So I will not be recommending these to anyone in my circle. Note: I eventually put back a 2009 Airport Extreme, configured all 17 cameras with the necessary port forwarding and they have been online and functional ever since. Go figure.
