    Excellent replacement

Replaced two Rachio wifi controllers that lack the ability to manually irrigate an entire program. The Rainbird was easy to install, easy to program and has the option to install a wifi module. Works great and let's me control my options. Excellent product!

    Highly recommend

Bought this unit to replace another brand whose app was totally confusing and difficult to use. From the moment I open the box everything was very simple and went smoothly.

Well built with lots of features.

This unit had very good fit and finish and alot of features for the price. The operating manual is difficult to understand. I used an online video that was very helpful in learning about how to operate this controller.

Easy to Install and Program 9 Zones

Replaced ESP-ME to the new ESP-ME3. It was very easy to swap out the controllers. I made sure to take a few photos of the zone wiring to the controller and also labelled each zone wire. Shut of the main irrigation water valve, disconnected the controller's power, opened the main door and the controller module (door), loosened each terminal screw, removed the lower 2 mounting screws, lifted the controller box to clear the top center screw (hangs on it) and the old unit was off. Did the reverse with the ME3 controller. Installed each terminal per the numbers/colors in the photo and labels, turned on the main water irrigation valve, powered the system and proceeded to program the controller; date, time, zone start time, and each zone run times. I thought that ME3 is simpler and quicker to program than the old ME. I would not upgrade for that reason only. It is a 5-start unit but I withheld 1-star to 4 because it does not already include the WiFi module. That module, the LNK2, costs about $105 by itself. Overall a very nice system. I would recommend to a friend.

    Did the job!

Easy to switch out, but if you get stuck, RainBird will walk you through it. Easy setttings once connected.

The ESP-ME3 was defective and quickly replaced by Jamie the vendor.

Jamie is very responsive and supportive. He replaced the defective unit with another one and paid for shipping. I would recommend him and his excellent service!

    Needs Case Design Improvements

Overall, a very nice controller. I replaced an Irritrol RD-600 with this unit. I needed a controller that was able to operate remotely via WIFI. Now I can control the irrigation remotely from anywhere in the world. Two complaints with this unit, however. The case is equipped with various knockouts to run the electrical lines. They are anything but “knockouts”. You will need hole saws to make the required penetrations. Also, if you will be hardwiring the controller, the 120V line connections are made inside a black plastic box inside the controller case. The thickness of the controller case coupled with the thickness of the black plastic box, is too great to allow for a standard electrical fitting. You will not be able to grab enough threads to get the nut on the fitting. I had to wire the 120V line into the controller case and then drill a hole in the side of the black plastic box in order to make the connections within the box.
