    Awesome Product and Customer Service

I had this product for about two months. I absolutely love it. When I first got it, the original one was defected. I contact their customer service. After failed trouble shooting, they provided a free return label to send the product for further testing. After they determine the product was defected, they shipped me a new one. It was simple to install. Two months later, works like a champ. I love the wifi, how easy it is to setup program, and skip watering cycle. I would highly recommend this product. Cheaper than Rachio, about half the price.

    Well designed with future expandability

Well-designed and easy to set up and use. The WiFi connection to my Linksys router is solid. Setting up my various watering zones and selecting options (soil type, slope, sprinkler type, plant types, etc) was simple and thorough. Alexa integration could be better; you can name your zones in the app (like “Front Lawn”) but those names don’t work with Alexa and for that you have to use terms like “Zone 2”. The best, and most unique feature of this system is the ability to add optional wireless soil sensors to give it more accurate feedback on the moisture level in the soil. I haven’t added this yet but am excited to see if such a “closed loop” system will improve the health of my plants. The good news is that even without such moisture sensor feedback, the Sprite does a good job of estimating soil moisture using weather data and irrigation run times. Highly recommended!

    Sensor problems, dead lawn

1 The system works by downloading the weather forecast for your area from an online provider. There have been several times where there was rain forecast, so the Netro didn't water. Then, it didn't rain. I contacted the manufacturer because I have a personal weather station on my roof, but there is no way to incorporate that information. So I decided to get the Whisperer sensors. After all, those sensors were the main reason why I chose Netro over the Rachio. You can only get them direct from the manufacturer. Four sensors (one for each zone) cost $200 plus shipping. If you are using the weather sensing mode, the sensors don't make the system water, all they do is stop the system from watering if the lawn is too wet. If you are using the sensors to determine when to water, then the system doesn't take weather into account. This is a problem: My lawn died while I was away on vacation, and it was Netro's fault. Let me explain. The system used to use Wunderground's weather predictions to determine when your lawn would be watered. They eliminated that, and began using Dark Sky. The problem lies in Florida's weather. Anyone who has ever been to Central Florida knows that we are forecast for thunderstorms every afternoon in the summer. However, we frequently don't get one at our specific house. Netro sees that forecast and then doesn't water the lawn. We don't actually get rain, so the lawn goes dry. Two weeks of 100+ degree days combined with no rain= dead lawn. A week after the sensors were installed, one of them broke and had to be sent back to the factory. After three weeks, they finally decided that it could not be repaired and shipped me a new one. The same day I got the new one, I discovered that a second one had failed. I just contacted the factory so I can send that one back. They promised that I would get all new sensors shipped to me free of charge within the next four weeks. I didn't see those sensors for 4 months. Less than two weeks after getting the new sensors, two of them stopped reporting. In case you are counting, that is four failed sensors out of six, a dead lawn, and a lot of disappointment. Although the system itself was cheaper than others, by the time you buy sensors at $50 each, the Netro wound up costing me over $300. The Rachio is cheaper at $230. With the sensors having a 70% failure rate, I think I would have been better off just buying the Rachio. That is what I eventually did. Five months later, and my lawn looks good. I left the old sensors from the Netro in place, and three of them appear to no longer be reporting. That is now 5 of 6 sensors failed in less than a year. I cannot recommend this system at all.

Easy Set-Up out of the Box, App seems to work well

I was able to replace my old, traditional sprinkler timer with the Netro Sprite really easily, in all probably took 20 minutes, most of which was trying to find my drill to mount to the wall. The app was easy to use and made set-up a breeze. Did a test run and was giddy when the zones turned on from a touch on my smartphone. I'm most interested in how well this will do with "Smart" scheduling. So far, it seems to be incorporating the weather forecast. While it hasn't run off the smart schedule just yet, my smart schedule was automatically changed, when, I presume, rain was forecasted on the same day it was going originally going to water. Super smart. I will try to keep this updated on how it performs in its ability to schedule around and to weather, and how good my lawn and plants do.

    Automatic but flexible

What I really like about this controller is that even though once setup it is quite automatic it still allows flexibility. Specifically you can easily block out days or time of day and even better for "sprinkler nerds" you can adjust how much rainfall it thinks the yard got. This is handy when say there was a local popup shower that wasn't recorded by the local weather service. I was already tracking rainfall with a rain gauge so this was fairly easy to do. Once you put in the rainfall amount you will see it adjust schedule. You only have a day or two window for this. I have a relatively large yard and the water bills can get quite high in the summer so anything to reduce usage is helpful. Overall the user interface is fairly intuitive. It definitely is a big learning curve going from a traditional schedule based controller. Over the summer watering months I used about the same amount as previous years I but will say the lawn never looked better. Also it waters each zone a fairly short amount of time, even less if you enter a slope. So, for a given run it will "round robin" through the zones. This gives more even watering on the clay soil here. Hopefully it will not wear out the valves. It also gives you good feedback regarding how much water was used and upcoming schedule. My only complaint is the only units it uses are CCF. I would rather see gallons also since that is how the water company reports. For maintenance very handy you can start and stop zones without having to run back and forth from the controller. The only downside to this once you get muddy working on a sprinkler head its easy to get the phone wet and muddy. Overall, I was pleasantly surprised with how well this worked. I bought it just to be able to manually control the zones from the yard but got a lot more than that. Next season I would like to reduce the amount of watering. There is not an explicit way I could see to "trim" it back without disabling some of the automatic features but I might try the "EPA" setting or set the zones to more shade.

    Work great with Google assistant

Works exactly as I want. App is easy to use. Setting up schedules or running manually is easy. Works well with Google assistant

Made a difference to my lawn.

The device was easy to install and operates as expected. The weather forecast used to regulate the irrigation is quite accurate. Just one complain, it should have a better support for Google Home. It took me sometime to setup and a person with less experience with home portals may not get it.

Customized App per my suggestions. How amazing is THAT?

UPDATE :- Bumping up to five stars as they implemented two critical changes I submitted via the community page in the app. They have Weather Underground working again, so I was able to link my weather station! For those without their own weather station, they added a feature to correct rainfall reported by services like darksky. Major accomplishment! ORIGINALLY POSTED+ Reliable. They ditched weather underground, (which sucks) as I have invested in a weather station, and Netro used to get the rainfall right from my yard. I would pay for that integration. They use DarkSky, which isn't bad, but the rainfall numbers from DarkSky are not as accurate. Would love to be able to see what it thinks the rainfall has been, and have the option to adjust it if not accurate. Not asking much, but they really don't seem to be focusing on the app. They are focused on the hose controller now, maybe it will improve.

Easy to install and connect but...... Update below

The good: Easy to install and connect to WiFi. Netro is reliable as it turns valves on and off when it says it will. The bad: Set-up wasn't intuitive in the least. The options didn't seem to fit my situation. Found it difficult to impossible to temporally change program start time for only one cycle. Support was almost non existent. Waited more than a week for a question answer that didn't make any sense. Don't use Alexa so can't comment on that integration. Needed to change the soil types, plant types, and slopes to get the amount of water needed. November 1 my city changes mandatory scheduling to once a week till April. The program missed it and started some kind of random days, and times. That required me to set my own day restriction. Setting up manual settings is never easy with the program app. reported correct the mandatory requirement to Netro. It's about time a start looking for something better the Netro.
