    Able to Dye Faux Fur

Some time ago, I saw a fabric with hot pink tips, and a pale yellow base. I was absolutely smitten by it, and wanted it badly! However... reviews revealed that they had poor camera quality, and the yellow was actually white. With this in mind, I purchased white and pink 'Candy Shaggy' fur with the intent to dye it. It worked out exceptionally well! Below I go over what I did in case you wish to do the same- I had a large pot I use for dying fabric and other crafts. I would recommend going to Good Will or purchasing a designated 'craft pot' as I would be too paranoid to cook food in a container that once had concentrated dye in it. I filled it with enough water to let the small test chunks flow freely around in it, and added a dab of soap, and some salt. RIT recommends the soap, and someone recommended salt with their own dying experiences, so I did both. I then heated the water to around 200 degrees then added a splash of RIT Dye More Synthetic. I wanted it pale so I didn’t do a TON. I imagine if you want an intense color you would need to use a lot more than I did. Do not boil the fur though! I hear really high temperatures can shrivel and warp the fibers! While I didn't have this issue, it is best to keep an eye on things. Each swatch of fabric I washed in warm soapy water. I scrubbed them rather aggressively, to make sure nothing was on the fibers, before I dropped it into the pot. Here I let it soak for about ten minutes, stirring regularly with metal tongs that I sacrificed to craft land where they won't be used for food again. RIT recommends letting it soak for at least 30 minutes to an hour, but because I wanted a pale I did it for only ten. Once I got the color I wanted, I removed, and rinsed in warm water and even more soap, gradually cooling the water until it was chilled and the water ran soap free and clear. I then used a hair dryer on hot to speed dry the fabric, fluffing it up with a brush and shaking regularly to separate the small fibers. I imagine if I dye an entire yard at a time, I would want to put it in the dryer and keep an eye on it. TIP: The color looks a LOT darker initially. My fabric looked pink and INTENSE sunflower yellow when I removed it from the pot. After drying, it substantially lightened as you see in the photos. Results were better than I expected. I anticipated the pink being turned an orange color, but it still looks a vibrant with only the faintest tinge of orange. If you need custom fur colors to facilitate a specific project, know that RIT can help you do that as long as you treat it with care and take your time during the process. While I can't say if you can get true BRIGHT colors or not since I did not try, pale tones can be applied easily.

You need a dye specifically for synthetic materials, this dye works beautifully.

I bought this to tint some curtains which are synthetic faux dupioni. Most synthetic fabrics will not dye with tradition dyes. You need a dye specifically for synthetic materials, such as this one. For an ivory tint, I used one tsp of yellow and 4 drops of red, to a full machine load of water, to create a perfect ivory color for the curtains pictured. I used the same ratio to dye white microfiber sheets (to a soft ivory) as liners for long sheer drapes in picture #1. PROS: Great color strength. Little to no bleed if properly used. Easy to do in a top-load, full water washing machine, or on the stove top in a Stainless Steel pot (follow included directions). CONS: I do not consider this a product drawback or a negative, but you should note that this (or any dye) is not good to use in a front-load or low water washing machine. COMPS: As compared to tradition dyes or many other brands of synthetic dyes I have tried, this dye does a better job. VERDICT: Good value for money. I can get many craft or home decorating projects done with a single bottle of this highly concentrated dye. I hope you found this information helpful. Have a great day! ~Savvy Shopper

    Sweater soup

Recipe: 1 one pound white acrylic sweater 1/2 container of Rit Synthetic Dye Teaspoon of dish soap 2 gallon stainless steel pot filled with water and sweater with enough room to splash 1. Put sweater in pot and nearly fill with water 2. Take sweater out and put in dish drainer 3. Boil water 4. Put dish soap and dye in pot, stir. 5. Put sweater back in and turn temperature down to just under a boil 6. Stir for 30 minutes 7. Drain pot & rinse sweater until water runs clear 8. Run through washing machine with an old towel 9. Dry sweater & enjoy your yellow sweater. Pictures show the colors during the process and after washing. Nice yellow color. Exactly what I needed.

    Good price

Didn't like the color. It was more of a dirty yellow. Almost brownish tint. But that was just a matter of taste. The value was fine. Quality of dye is good. Package arrived on time and in good repair. Did take a week to arrive.

    excellent dye!

I need a yellow fleece vest for a family Halloween costume. Couldn't find one to buy so I purchased a white 100% polyester fleece vest. I added about 2 gallons of water in a large pot, brought almost to a boil, added 1 tsp dish soap and 1 whole bottle of this yellow dye for synthetics. I then added the pre-washed (but completely dry) vest. I stirred consistently for about 10 min but then just occasionally checked on it over the course of 35 more minutes. The color came out beautifully - a nice primary yellow! Only downside is that is stained my large pot. Maybe use one that you don't care about or plan to use for cooking.

Great product and easy to use

I love everything about this product. It was easy to use and very simple just follow the directions on the back. You might need to take a picture of the directions with your phone to enlarge them so you can see them better if you have bad eyes but other than that this was the perfect product. Are use this product to color a white scrub yellow we needed a yellow scrub top for work and they are hard to fine especially in certain sizes so we decided to purchase white scrubs and dye them we noticed that the fabric would not use the regular RITZ dye So that’s why we purchased the Ritz damn or synthetic and it worked perfect

    It works!

I couldn't find anything that could bleach or dye this synthetic wig I bought for a costume. As long as you follow instructions to keep water consistently hot it works like a charm. Can't say it's as vibrant as it shows but it did the job. This saved me thank you!

    It’s magic!!!

To get the darkest black on a purple bra set, I used 2 bottles of graphite and 1/2 bottle of daffodil yellow, mixing in a little more until the purple hue was completely gone. Total processing time of 60 minutes. Allowed it to sit in pot until cool then rinsed. This pic is taken wet after 2 washes with mild detergent and towel dried. Will update if there’s any color change. But I have to say this is a great product if ur considering upcycling clothing and lingerie. I was glad that it didn’t loosen the Lycra or elastic. It even colored the hardware on the bra straps to a very dark grey. I’ll take it. Long as its not that ugly a** purple!

    The Cat's meow!

Haven't used this color yet, but I know Rit dye and it's the best. What ever the color of the bottle that's the way it's going to turn out. Just read the instructions and you can't go wrong. If you think that you know how it's done without reading said instructions, don't kid yourself. You'll screw it up for sure.
