- Yodenie S2024-06-26All Inclusive kit for Making Adorable Aliens
We are very pleased with this all-inclusive crochet kit. I gave it to my teen-age granddaughter who enjoys making crochet gifts. After examining everything in the box, she was very excited to start making these cute little aliens. The kit includes easy-to-follow instructions plus access to video tutorials. There is plenty of yarn that is very sturdy. The yarn scissors and ergonomic crochet hook work very well. We highly recommend!
- Jeneane Vanderhoof2024-06-26Great set for newcomers to crochet
As you can see from the photos I added with this review, everything you need to complete these little aliens, comes inside this kit. That is all except a glue gun for the glue stick included. What I think is most unique about the alien characters and made them personally loveable, is that each alien has a different symbol on their belly- whether it be a heart, circle or star. IMO, that gave the aliens a littlw personality. One thing I do need to caution beginners who have never crocheted about this kit though, when I have used this type of yarn before (what is included with this kit), I have found that you cannot make constant mistakes with it- as it can only be ripped apart and crocheted again, at the most, twice. My suggestion is, if this is the first kit you are trying, get an extra skein of yarn and practice on that. I'd get thick yarn that doesn't split when you rip it apart over and over learning "how to" do stitches. You may even want to work on parts of the project on this yarn. But you don't want your project to look bad because this yarn will fray- when you rip your stitches too many times to correct mistakes (I try not to rip more than twice while using it). However the written instructions of this kit are accompanied by instructional videos for beginners and videos specific to this project- showing you how to make the aliens. Not all kits have videos that show "how to" make the project in the kit. And you do have to master the "magic ring" to get this project done- each part of the alien starts with one. It took me several projects to get this started and, in the past (before I could get a magic ring done), I had even ordered a kit that started a magic ring for you once (this kit does not though). However after ordering so many kits with instructional videos on how to make one, I finally got it and can now make magic rings in my sleep. Fun and imaginative, I also love the color choices of this kit. Many of the other kits I have ordered don't have such bright yarn choices- so I really enjoy being able to make these little aliens, and make them a part of all the crochet characters I have completed.
- Teresa A.2024-06-26Yarn quality is lacking
First of all, I was truly impressed with this kit. Everything EXCEPT the yarn is of good quality. The instructions are well done and easy to follow, the hook and other supplies are of good quality (though I personally hate this kind of scissors and always end up using my own instead), and of course the design is adorable. The one and only issue I have with this kit, and it is obviously a significant one, is the extremely low quality of the included yarn. Oh, they are in the cutest little mini skeins I've ever seen -- so cute! -- but once you actually start touching and using the yarn you feel a bit betrayed. At least I did. This yarn splits like crazy, becomes fuzzy in a not-good way as soon as you start using it, is NOT beginner friendly in that it gets increasingly worse the more rip out stitches to correct mistakes as any beginner would almost certainly have to do, and it also pills. I think a cotton yarn would have been a much better choice for this. I tend to crochet tightly, so I ended up going up a size and using one of my own crochet hooks, but the included one actually matches my set of off-brand 'good' ergonomic hooks perfectly. Everything else was great, but they really dropped the ball with the yarn. If you're experienced enough with crochet and amigurumi to make these without any mistakes on your first try the yarn quality might be adequate, but if you're a beginner that is likely to have trouble I would suggest trying to get better yarn to work with before you even start. Cotton tends to be a good choice for amigurumi and it's pretty cheap. For the price of $16.99 they could have and SHOULD have included better quality yarn than this. Everything else was so great that the poor quality of the yarn was surprising and I found myself shifting from excitement to disappointment pretty quickly once I started working with it.
- Life is Great2024-06-21Daughter loves it!
**5 Star Review** I recently got the ekaus Crochet Kit for Beginners for my daughter, and it has been a wonderful experience! Even though she is still working on her first project, she found it easy to learn. The step-by-step video tutorials are fantastic and very easy to follow along with, making her first-time crochet experience smooth and enjoyable. My daughter's grandmother has also been helping her, and with the combination of the tutorials and grandma's guidance, she picked it up quickly. It's been a great bonding activity for them. The kit comes with everything needed, and the quality of the supplies is excellent. Overall, I highly recommend the ekaus Crochet Kit for anyone looking to start crocheting. It’s perfect for beginners and provides a great learning experience!
- raji2024-06-11Good beginner kit
I'm not a beginning crocheter, but I wanted this kit just because of the super cute star pattern. I crochet items to give away at times during astronomy outreach events and this pattern is perfect. It's a basic star amigurumi with a nightcap that is crocheted separately and removable from the star. The kit is a typical beginner kit, with instruction booklet for both basic stitches and the pattern itself, stuffing, yarn, ergonomic crochet hook, stitch markers, needle, and snips. I prefer the type of yarn in this kit over the thicker "beginner" yarn in some kits, as it's easier on my hands, although it does occasionally tend to split—just go carefully and you won't have any problem. This kit does come with a QR code for video instruction in case you need that, but I prefer working off a printed pattern, which this one also has, so you can go whichever route suits you best. The box it comes in is nicely designed and printed, and the entire kit would make a good gift for someone who wants to learn a new craft.
- LooseLipsSpillTips2024-06-27Good kit
This Kit really does include all that you need to crochet these bunnies. All the materials and instructions are included so that you can construct the rabbits that are in the images. This is a really reasonably priced kit for including three rabbits, but I wish the yarn were a little better. If you are new to crocheting, you may find it frustrating that the project has not yet been started for you. However, this is truly the best way for a person to learn how to crochet. There are instructions included to help you get started the project.
- Katie G2024-06-29Cute pattern, nice kit
M daughter loves aliens and has been doing a lot of beginner crochet kits lately, so I thought this would be perfect for her. She has done 4-5 different kits now, so she’s not new to crochet, but she is still very much a beginner, and this kit was great for her. She could work off the printed pattern since she knows the stitches and how to read the pattern, but we liked that it came with QR code to get a refresher on the basics. She didn’t really like the yarn from this kit, it’s a little lower quality than what usually comes with the beginner kits, but she was still able to complete the alien. It took her about a day to finish everything and while it didn’t come out perfectly, she had fun making it and it looks cute.
- M. Weaver2024-06-14Not for beginners!
This is so cute, and I hope some day I'm good enough at crocheting to do it, but it is NOT for beginners. You at least need to be a more advanced beginner or fully intermediate level to do it, in my opinion. I, of note, am definitely a beginner, but I've now done 3 beginner woobles, a koala cookie cookie tin one, and a capybara by Cheri - so five total - and this one was SO hard for me to even get anywhere on. PROS: - It's super cute! I mean, look at it! If I can ever get to the final product I'll be so happy because it's adorable. - The crochet hook, the scissors, all of that seems really high quality. The crochet hook didn't slip when I used it, and the scissors cut my mistakes out a few times with ease. - The video tutorials are wonderful from what I watched. (I'll get to the issues soon) Very detailed in how to do the stitches, and how to make the magic ring - with a slow down to show you in detail how to do everything. CONS: -The yarn is SO THIN and SO TINY. I'd guesstimate the weight on the yarn skeins as being about #1 - so super fine. It's so thin it's (in my opinion) very hard to work with as a beginning crocheter. My crochet hook gets caught on it and shreds it. I lose all the Vs to tell me how to continue my rounds. It's such a struggle to do every single thing every single stitch feels extremely stressful. I'd definitely up the yarn weight severely to get to a point where beginners could use it. (I'm also used to the t-shit yarn that doesn't thread as easy, but I'm used to regular yarn from my loom knitting, so I feel like I shouldn't be having this much trouble, but it's very hard with a crochet hook!) - The QR code to get to the videos...so, there are two inserts that come with your star. They're both labeled about the same - so I scanned one, and all it did was teach me basic stitches that i knew from the others. I watched them anyway to see how they compared to the others - and they were lovely and taught the viewer well. But didn't tell me how to deal with the star, and I was concerned how I was going to get anywhere with it. It took four false starts, struggling, getting intimidated by the yarn and then the points - before I (accidentally, mind) just scanned the other QR code and found it took me to an entirely different set of web videos that taught me specifically how to do the star. So getting those labeled more clearly would be wonderful. Over all, the stress I've had from even trying to make the main body on this guy has made me assured that this is not a thing for beginners, no matter how cute it is.
- Nanajenn712024-06-25cute but not for novice beginner
Reviewing ekaus Crochet Kit for Beginners, Crochet Starter Kit with Step-by-Step Video Tutorials, Crochet DIY Knitting Supplies for Adults Kids, Crochet Star(45%+ Yarn) This is going to be the cutest star ever! The kit comes with everything you need, and the supplies seem to be of fairly good quality. The yarn is a little splitty, but it works up nicely. This kit is definitely not for the absolute beginner, but more intermediate beginner, someone who has made a few more basic amigurumi items. The videos on this one were pretty good, but it would be nice if the QR codes were labeled so it was clear which one was basic stitch information and which one was the pattern.
- Sharon M2024-06-22The ducks are so cute and frog inner tube beats all!
The ekaus beginner crochet starter kit comes with everything needed to complete the two duck and the frog innertube. Looks like there is enough green yarn to complete two inner tubes. The videos are ok, show the stitches round by round. I am a beginner, but have done a few kits. This kit is more of an intermediate beginner. There are parts to sew on and yarn color changes. All good to learn, but not for the novice beginner. The yarn is very fine and the hook small. The stitches are difficult to see. The yarn separates easily and is fuzzy after crocheting. I might go buy a higher quality yarn and start over.
