    nice solid aluminum drop hitch

I will start off this review by stating that I do not plan to haul 12000 lbs with this hitch. I am putting this on my Bronco Sport that has a 2200lb tow rating, well below this hitch's advertised rating. Even my largest vehicle is rated at 5000lbs, so I feel very comfortable that this hitch will handle what I need. However, when you compare to other 12000lb drop hitches, they invariably use two pins to locate the ball drop, whereas this uses just one. Granted the shear rating of a 5/8 hitch pin is far higher than 12000 lbs, and there is only one such pin holding any hitch to the vehicle, so it shouldn't be a strength concern. I'd be more worried about introducing extra movement into the hitch setup. Do your research! I plan to use a anti-rattle clamp on the receiver. What I can say is that this hitch feels and appears to be quite sturdy, made of solid single piece cast aluminum with no welds to fail (the balls are steel), so it is not heavy. The ball drop is a little loose on the hitch, and it does move and rattle slightly when unloaded, but not nearly as much as the hitch rattles in the receiver. What I like about this setup though is that now I can install the anti-rattle and leave it on, and just remove the ball drop. The balls appear to be replaceable, there are recessed allen head bolts that hold them on. I've not removed them yet to see what type the balls are, but will do so at some point as I want to also have a 1 7/8 ball on hand. The locking pins are nice enough, nothing too special about them, but they are keyed the same so you'll have 4 keys and only need to keep track of one of them. The o-rings prevent the pins from moving around. I think I only needed one for the ball drop, but used quite a few on the receiver. They are push to lock type, so you have to put the lock on the pin, and then push the lock in, which isn't terribly convenient. They do have a rubber cap for the key, but even so you'll need to spray some wd-40 in there once in a while. I've had too many of this type seize up. I already have a set of 4 key matched pins that use the more secure round type key that doesn't seize as easily, but unfortunately, those pins are just about 1/8 inch too short to fit the ball drop. Overall, I am happy with this set. I provides (for me) the necessary lift to level trailers for my Bronco Sport, handles two of the three ball sizes I have, and allows me to switch between sizes while leaving the anti-rattle clamp on. This is also about half the price of other similarly rated drop hitches, so I find it's a great value, especially if you're not planning to push the max capacity.

    Very nice, but...

This is a very nice, and very nice looking, trailer hitch. It is versatile (has numerous heights at which it can be placed, and 2 size balls--2 inch and 2 and 5/16.) It comes with two locking pins to help prevent theft. The balls are chrome-plated rather than my preferred stainless, but a fairly minor point. It also comes with numerous O-rings, which are supposed to be placed on the pins to prevent both rattling noises as well as ( more importantly) trailer sway. While they prevent noise, they certainly don't prevent sway. As my video shows, there is a lot of play in the receiver despite using the O-rings. This didn't come as a big surprise (I wouldn't expect O-rings to prevent sway) but I was hoping that perhaps the sizing of the hitch itself inside my receiver would be tight enough to prevent much sway. This isn't the case. So I'll be using my "hitch tightener" device to help with this problem. Other than that, this is a very nice, easy-to-use and versatile hitch that I look forward to using for a long time.
