- eTripper2024-04-04A tough, ergonomic, and innovative tool, that everyone should have!
After watching a number of reviews; regarding the Oknife Otacle U1 boxcutter, I decided to snap one up myself. This is indeed; an innovative, and quality item. The tool is made of carbon-fiber, which gives it great strength, and light-weight. Utility-blade is deployed via an axis-lock release. This boxcutter is compact, yet it gives the user, 95 percent more blade-area, than standard utility blades. I used it, immediately upon receipt, to destroy a large cardboard box for recycle. The U1 was flawless, and sailed through the task! This item comes with a handy pocket-clip, and an enclosed lanyard. Blade-change is self-evident, and easily accomplished by a little set-screw. All standard, two-notch utility-blades will fit the Otacle U1. Another plus; is that this will save your EDC knife for other duties. This item has any number of uses: cutting cordage, opening blister-paks, cutting-coupons, hobbies, etc. The price, and ergonomics make this boxcutter a winner. I'm considering, purchasing another one.
- Joe2024-06-26Surprisingly Amazing
A bunch of my friends recently started collecting knives and every chance they get they’re flicking their knives open and closed like a greaser in the 80s. I’m very impressionable so I bought this because 1) I don’t have to sharpen my blade every time I have to cut a piece of paper to prove how sharp my knife is. 2) it’s compact. 3) the locking mechanism is honestly incredible. The clip is strong, it’s a good fit in my ham hands, very lightweight and easy to replace the blades. This is probably one of, if not, the best budge “knife” I’ve ever used. Highly recommended.

Working in a warehouse requires equipment that can be used and reused. Box cutters are imperative and I have gone through tons of different brands and styles over the years. Milwaukee, DeWalt, Snap-On, Craftsman, Hart, Olfa, Anvil, Gerber....and everything in-between. Up to this point the small lock back by Milwaukee was my personal EDC. Small and lightweight, yet very durable. It has a deep and strong pocket clip that kept it in place. It was also very easy to change the blade. That said I saw this one and can say with great certainty that it has all the other does and more. Along with having a thumb stock for precision one handed opening, it also features a much longer blade length for using the same utility blades (moreso than the Gerber EAB). And I will say the thumb screw to hold the blade does a great job of holding in the blade with no play and rattling like some "quick-change" cutters. It is also incredibly lightweight but also doesn't feel cheap due to having very solid construction. The machined edges mean it is comfortable to get a solid grip on it to do heavier work if necessary.... .....I could go on and on.... The point is, this box cutter is incredibly well thought out, designed, and built with quality materials and attention to detail. So, as I said in the title, this is the knife you have been looking for!
- Vu B.2024-03-29Definitely one of the highest quality utility folding knives around. Ceramic ball bearings!
I was really shocked at how well made this Oknife Otacle U1 was when I opened the package. The axis lock was pretty smooth, the action was very smooth. Smoother than I would have expected for a utility knife, turns out it has metal caged ceramic ball bearing in the pivot. The liners aren't full length...probably for weight, but the carbon fiber scales are quite light too. I usually take apart any new knife that I get to clean out any grit or machining bits and all the excess oil. This wasn't really the case for the Otacle. It was pretty clean, but I still cleaned it out re-lubed with Krytox 205G0 to get it super smooth. I only have a few minor complaints. The axis lock is pretty recessed and makes it's a bit hard to grab a hold of to pull back. This combines with the short length really makes it hard to deploy. I ended up putting a short paracord lanyard on the end just to have something for my pinky to hold on it. But otherwise, this is a great pocket knife that you never have to sharpen. It's even TSA compliant if you toss out the utility blade before you go through the security checkpoint.

$25?!?! WTH?!?! 😱 ASTONISHINGLY well made with VERY low tolerances and aesthetically VERY pleasing. ZERO blade play (which is insane at this price point). The action is buttery smooth and fast deploying with a great detent when closed. The pocket clip is very sturdy, aesthetically pleasing, and VERY thoughtfully placed. (It would interfere with finger placement when disengaging the axis lock if centered but its placed off to the side to allow for more surface area contact when manipulating the knife). Lastly but certainly not least: I’d say ruffly 80% of the blade is exposed and usable. This is a GAME CHANGER for me. I’ve been saying for 35 years that someone should make a utility knife that does this. Yeah, I get it: if you’re cutting hard materials regularly like drywall or carpet for example, you’d want to use a conventional knife and probably not a folder for that. A knife that exposes 1/2 the blade is much stronger and less prone to breakage which could, under the right circumstances, cause an injury. But for most light/medium duty tasks it’s fantastic and I can’t count the times I’m grateful for so much of a usable edge. The only con: (sortof) As one other reviewer pointed out, the blade makes contact with part of the spacer block thing (not sure the proper name for it). It makes contact with about 1/3 of the front portion of the blade. I believe the block is g-10? Maybe carbon fiber but pretty sure the carbon fiber is limited to the top laminate only on the surface of the scales. Anyway, sure, I guess it will cause some premature wear of the blade but I’m pretty sure any wear would be marginal at best especially considering it’s a utility blade which, if you use it much at all you’ll be regularly changing. I can’t see how it would be an issue of any significance. So much so that I’m not even deducting a star for it. I’ll probably buy at least 3 more for friends as soon as I can before they go out of business, get bought out or, god forbid, figure out how underpriced this knife is lol. 😁
- Cameron2024-06-16Great utility knife
Smaller than expected... and because I have bigger hands, I have to be careful closing it. Other than that, it is everything I hoped for and more. Actually, the smaller size makes it easier to carry everyday. It was intended to be for work only. I load trucks at a feed mill, so I'm constantly wrapping skids with plastic wrap, or removing the wrap... without even deciding to, I now carry this knife everyday. It's well made, strong, easy to use, and closes securely so there isn't any worry about cutting myself. All in all, great knife for anyone that uses a utility knife. Love it
- Jeff S.2024-05-25Very high quality, perfect for EDC.
I have owned a couple folding utility knives that were cheaply made and have seen many other examples. I'm very impressed with the quality and function of this folding utility knife. The quality starts with carbon fiber g10 scales. The company calls the lock something different but I own a few knives that features the same locking mechanism which is known as an axis lock. You can deploy the blade very quickly but the way I use these locking mechanisms which works either left or right handed is by pinching each side of the axis lock with your thumb and pointer finger to pull it down and swing the blade out. It's a lot more comfortable on your fingers then using one. Back to the quality, it comes with a very high quality utility blade/razor blade. The blade lock seems extremely tight and fine to me. The pocket clip is the perfect size tip up design. The packaging even features quality as you open it it has a pull-out drawer featuring The knife, a safety card, manual and tucked away in its own compartment a lanyard which is nice paracord. The size is perfect and can fit in the watch pocket of a pair of jeans easily. I write this as a EDC because it can be carried for both utility and self-defense use. I recommend purchasing high quality blades which they sell on Amazon. I also recommend using extreme caution with the axis lock and recommend slowly using the thumb stud to deploy the blade because all it takes is one slip. Overall you can feel the overall quality and I definitely recommend this over similar products.
- Vincent2024-03-20Well built, but have mixed feelings on the design
This is an incredible value at $25. Good materials and a good fit and finish. It's very slim and compact. The action is somewhat gritty when new, but I think it will smoothen out with use. Its compact size makes it very convenient to carry around. However, this is where the cons come in. The handle is on the smaller side, I have small hands and can't get a full grip. Also when closing the knife with one hand, you can easily stab your palm with the tip of the blade if not holding it carefully. This knife is great for carrying around with light and infrequent use. For something that will be used more often, a knife with a larger handle would be a better choice.
- Max Riz2024-07-02Excellent portable EDC utility knife - two small issues
Issues first. There is not a way to hand tighten or loosen the blade retaining screw. A tool is needed to both tighten and loosen. This is not brilliant but it's fine. The bigger issue is that the blade open side and the clip are on the same side. Which means if this ever self opens in your pocket ..... Bad bad day. The clip should be on the hinge side. Minus one star there. Otherwise, this is great combined with DeWalt or Lennox blades. I bought several for myself and one for my dad. Easy to open and close one hand once one learns the wrist snap. Comfortable enough for small jobs ( it...is...a small tool). Light. Easy to change blades. Exposes way way way more blade surface than most other options. That said, this is definitely not made to be heavy duty, but to be honest neither are utility blades. It's a nice daily cutter without having to think about sharpening. I've been using this as my solo EDC cutter for the past 6 months and a hardly ever miss my proper knife.
- Justin_hammer2024-06-29I love this thing!
I'm a huge Olight fan in general so when I saw this, I had to have it. In my line of work, I use a knife a hundred times a day. I will usually keep a pocket knife on me and a utility blade. Ever since I got this.. I no longer carry a pocket knife. You will be surprised by how small / thin it is but trust me.. its a great piece to carry. I keep it on my belt all day and unlike my old utility blade I never even notice its on me. It has even become part of my EDC! If you are thinking about buying this.. take my word.. BUY IT!
