Must have for cell phone, small electronics repair

I grabbed this up because I saw it and had to have it. I repair cell phones and small electronics from time to time and I didn't realize that I needed something like this as bad as I did. This thing is great to use, the weighted base keeps it up right and the flex neck on the magnifying glass light makes it easy to move around where you need it. I didn't realize what I was missing out on! The alligator clips and printed circuit board holder make it easy to work on cell phones, tablets or other various small electronics. I haven't used it to assist in soldering yet, but it will make things so much more easier when I do have to solder something. Great buy!

Multiple uses. Not just for soldering. Assembly required.

My husband will be using this for a very helpful soldering tool, but I have found multiple uses for this magnifying glass stand and will be using it in other ways, too. There are so many times where magnification comes in handy, but holding a magnifying glass with one hand, only leaves you with one hand to accomplish the task you are working on. Things like… removing a splinter, cleaning or repairing jewelry, and even painting my nails! Sometimes, my eyeglasses just aren’t quite enough to get a really good close-up view of items I’m working on. As my aging eyes continue to fail me, this magnifying glass stand is helping me out. There is some assembly required, but I was able to accomplish it fairly easily. Take a look at my video, showing the assembly and also how the remote works to operate the light. I might note, the magnets on the arms are very strong and stay put on the metal base. I was impressed with them. I am storing the stand on a shelf in a cabinet, where I can easily grab it when I need it.

    Perfect for doing soldering work!

I really needed something to stably hold my larger PCB's when doing some intense soldering and this fit the bill....mostly. I love the magnifying glass with the built in LED light - a HUGE improvement over the older fluorescent tube style magnifiers. The base is nice and heavy and the helper arms can be moved around since they are just held on with strong magnets. The clips on the helper arms have rubber protectors as to not scratch or damage what you are working on. My only gripe is that the helper arms aren't super flexible. WIth the smaller size of the base it can be difficult to position the piece to be gripped by all 4 arms. BUT since the clips have the rubber cover, you do not need to have them actually grip. You can have the two back arms actually grip while you can rest the piece on the front two. This works very well for my situation. I would recommend this to anyone who works a lot with soldering.

2002 Corolla got me There for Years

Definitely an improvement on what I was using for years - That was a little 2 inch magnifying glass at about 6" height, and no light. Compared to that - this girl is amazing. At the time of my order she was around 35 bucks - and that's a steal. Especially if your on a budget. If you have a pocket full of change though there are some pretty nice helping hands being sold on Amazon for about double the price. Coincidentally, they're double the magnification and 1” more on the diameter of the glass. This girl has about 3 and 3/8” visible on glass and 2.5x magnification. 2.5x is fine for me – if I need more I use a pair reading glasses too. If you're on a budget or don't want to spend close to a unit on a glass and aligator clips – then this girl Rocks. She really does for the price. If the sky in WhoVille is the limit – buy the (Big Daddy I'd Like to see the Mite on the Crocodiles But Hair - Please) So ----- 5 Stars for the Corolla

    Must have helping hand!!

This is the best helping hand I’ve gotten. This tool is so nice. The magnifying glass and Led light is mounted on a flexible arm, and is great for small jobs. It can be mounted directly to the base plate, or to a counter using the included c clamp mount. The light has a long cord with multi function switch, and comes with an usb adapter plug. The LED brightness and color is adjustable. The base plate is solid steel with a nice foam under pad. It comes with 4 magnetic arms with large alligator clips and rubber pads that grip very well. I was a little iffy about the magnetic arms, but wow, those magnets are powerful!! Check out my video of 1 magnet lifting a heavy cast iron griddle plate like nothin!! Im definitely happy with this helping hand. I been using it constantly. Hopefully everything last a long time!

    Everyone soldering should have this

This would of been handy with so many tasks I performed in the past. This holder of sorts is very handy. The magnetic grippers can move into any position on the plate. You can grip PCB's with ease. You can hold two pieces of wire together. It's almost as if another person was holding it for you. Parts you are working on won't shift or move anymore and it really makes soldering a breeze. Tiny spots to get at; well there is the magnifying glass and included light too. I don't think I have anything to gripe about...other than I should have used one a loooong time ago. It would of saved time and my solder joints would have been visually better.

ALMOST as good as the one I paid $70 for!

I wanted a better soldering helping hands solution and bought the one that is all metal and has really nice arms. This is VERY similar. The metal base is heavy. The light that it comes with is USB powered but also gives you the power brick! So you can use it in multiple instances. Three levels of color temp: Warm, white, and cool. And then you can adjust the brightness. The silly thing with the little inline controller is you can't hold the dimmer up/down and it dims/brightens, you have to phsyically keep clicking it to make it dimmer or brighter. That seems really silly. The actual helping hand arms are OK. They aren't great, but they are not horrible. I would replace them with the known better ones out there after these break. I think this is a pretty decent value for what you get. I do wish that the base was larger. It's not a bad size but something larger/square would make more sense to me. I can comfortably say that I would use this along side my more expensive unit no problem. If this was square like my other unit I would butt them up together and have a giant work area!

    Very useful tool

I have some other smaller helping hand tools, but combining a light, magnifying glass, and four alligator clips is pretty handy for saving desk space. Setup was fairly painless. The clips are held to the base using some very strong magnets, so they can be repositioned easily yet remain surprisingly sturdy. The clips had no problem holding up a 60% keyboard PCB+top plate+switches while I desoldered the switches. I wish the clips were a little smaller and narrower; especially with the rubber, I have trouble gripping certain boards as well as smaller components which are less of an issue for my vice-style helping hands. This is really, really well constructed overall though.

Magnetic clip arms, bright light, magnifying glass

This will make soldering much easier for me. The clip arms are magnetic and can be placed anywhere on the metal frame. They hold their position pretty well and the clips are very secure. The magnifying glass with lights is very good and will make it significantly easier to see what I'm soldering. It also came with a small table clamp which made it much easier to manipulate the clip arms and magnifying glass without the whole thing sliding around. My soldiering iron was not magnetized to any part of the product, but make sure yours won't be magnetized either before heating it up. I'm not sure if it really is a risk or not, but I wouldn't want a hot iron getting stuck to anything so I thought it was good to point out.

    Good magnification, really good light

OK, this is a nice addition to my workspace. The base on this unit is heavy and does a good job keeping everything stable. The arms are magnetic, 2 short and 2 long, and easily repositionable on the base. The light is very good, with adjustable brightness, and color temperature. Magnification is very good on the head. It does come with a clamp for a desktop if you would rather clamp it down than use the base, but I think this one will live on the base.
