This may be my favorite final finished product that I’ve made. And I’ve made close to 100 3D wooden projects. Some challenging parts but overall went together well. Instructions were good overall. Some of the pictures were a bit hard to decipher tho. Pretty accurate time estimate of 3 hours. Took me just under. But I had to undo and redo a few things (my fault). This does require a power source if you wish to use the moving functions. Doesn’t take batteries. Love that parts had the numbers and extra numbers that shows how they go together with the other parts. Overall A-

I'm quite impressed with this model kit. It is much more than one of those simple laser-cut wooden 3D puzzle kits. It includes LEDs, a motor, several larger plastic parts, a USB-C cable for power, and metal, plastic, and rubber hardware for construction. There's even a small stick of wax for lubricating parts that rub together. The wooden parts come in varying thicknesses, with heavier parts to provide adequate support, and thinner parts for movement. The parts are all colored or painted. There is naturally some sanding involved, but the laser cuts are well made and accurate, and the parts are relatively smooth to begin with. One nitpick is that, given the quality of the kit and the parts overall, they only supply a small piece of sandpaper and one sanding stick. Not a dealbreaker at all; sandpaper is easy to come by, but I might have expected more given the very nice quality of this kit. I'm in the middle of completing mine, and am just taking my time over it, but this would be a good project for anyone who likes construction, puzzles, or model building. Kids will need supervision, given the electrics and the number of very small parts, and I wouldn't do this with very small children, but as a family project or for adults who like to build things (me) this is a very nice kit. Recommended.

Over the past few years, I have thoroughly enjoyed building over a dozen of these elaborate wooden puzzles including iconic structures, amusement rides, marble runs and various vehicles. But they are all going to need to make way for this Viking Dragon Ship, which will clearly be the “king of the hill”. In the past, this has been a winter evening project, but with the brutal heat wave we are currently having, I might just setup on the basement game table and make it a summer evening project instead. They tell you that you can build this model in 3 hours, but I personally like to savor the experience and take my time. After you have built a few of these you will learn some of the tricks of the trade to really polish the finish result. Although these models are precision made and press-fit together rather nicely, you will learn when and when not to use a little glue. There are several manufactures, but I think that the ROKR brand is one of the better ones. If you are just starting out, I might suggest that build a few simpler models before you tackle the more complex ones, like this gorgeous Viking Dragon Ship. Once you have built a few, I am sure that you will be hooked like I am. By the way, if you sit at a computer all day like I do, this is a great relaxing diversion.

I've put together quite a few of the Rokr wooden puzzles and this one is similar to others in that it has excellent instructions that are easy to follow. It's easy to feel overhwhelmed with such complex projects, but I just do it little by little following the included pages. The only thing I would recommend is to paint the pieces first if you're going to paint them as it makes for a neater final product if you paint while they are still in their wooden frames. The pieces fit together well and do not really need much glue. Some of them need a little sanding for a better fit and to clean the edges where they are stuck together in the wooden frames. This has a motor to make the oars move which is cool. The completed result looks very stylish and impressive. I am an adult, but I think kids would enjoy this model as well. It's a lot of fun, but probably best for kids to have supervision while handling the smallish pieces.
