- MAI2024-06-14Fantastic prints from desktop or iPhone - get it!
Needed a replacement printer/scanner quick for my home office, after learning my old HP Deskjet would be expensive to repair. The repair tech suggested I check out Brother options, so I got this one. Outstanding quality and user experience, and such a great price! I chose the wireless set-up option (connected to your device is also an option), and added my husband's device, which means we both can print from our iPhones. Game-changer!! The entire set-up, including downloading a few add-ons, checking print alignment and registering the device, took less than an hour. Downloading the Brother print app to your computer makes it quite easy. I'm a technical writer, and appreciate how clear and concise the instructions were. Note: Be sure to check this model is compatible with your Windows or Mac (15 different OS versions) before you buy. This printer arrived well packaged, starter ink cartridges included, and on-time. Highly recommend, very happy with this purchase.
- S. Campbell2024-07-08Great printer, but setup was a little frustrating
We needed to replace an older Brother MFC printer and this one was a good price and had the features that we needed. I've set up electronics before, but the app setup on this just wasn't working. I ended up connecting to our wifi through the printer's interface, then it was smooth sailing. I have managed to print from my Galaxy S20, but not all browsers have a "print" option (not the printers fault). So far we haven't had to print much and the ink isn't dropping drastically like some reviews mentioned. Brother did push, to an annoying extent, their ink subscription service during setup. I don't see it anymore during normal day to day printing. Also, this thing prints pretty fast! And it appears to go into a sleep mode where the little screen is off, but it's always there when we go to print something. So far we haven't had any issues with it connecting on our network and I'm running an Asus Wifi6 mesh network.
- DianaM2024-02-23Good for the Job
Needed to replace my eight year old HP inkjet as the printhead went out. The HP was so problematic I went with the Brother as my Brother laser was an excellent workhorse. This Brother injet is new, so I cannot speak to the longevity of the printer or cartridges. It was SUPER easy to set up (after I re-read the instructions! LOL) I had the router, PC, laptop, and phone hooked up in five minutes. The print quality is okay, not super sharp or dark. Printing is slow. Scanner is fine. Fax is not hooked up. As my print needs are only occasional now, this is adequate. I would not use this for a business as it is slow. The reason for 4 stars is speed , and that I don't know about longevity yet.
- Chuck Blonder2024-06-19SO VERY GLAD - We Purchased This Printer!
To just say that this is a fine value and then give it a justifiable five stars is much too little. Honestly, this is a remarkable machine which outdoes everything we have purchased - except for my wife's APPLE/MAC COMPUTER...(AND THAT'S A TIE). Within one hour from opening the box through the entire set-up process, it was user-friendly (times ten!). It seems to function perfectly. Why would anyone buy a machine for hundreds of dollars for home use? Not necessary. Goodbye to those awful inkjet cartridges and HELLO to the best ink-changing system available! Quite easy to load neatly. We will probably not use the FAX function (which is part of the machine's capability). But to scan and print and enlarge and have so many other fine features - like printing on two sides - makes us quite happy to be able to praise this printer. If we could add a few more stars, we would gladly do so. This printer is absolutely a "must buy" and a "must recommend". KUDOS! .... to BROTHER and AMAZON!
- H. Martin2024-06-26I like!
After 12 years of having my Dell printer, it finally was costing me more to replace the print head constantly. Sooooooo, I bought this over a month ago. So many people recommended different brands and it didn't matter which one I looked at, all had something negative to say. I am here to say, that I am VERY pleased with this. Easy to set up. I do have this hooked up directly to my desktop computer. I'm not using the wireless feature. Now, I do "fan out" my paper before placing it in the tray like I always do with any printer. It helps to not to have paper jams which I have yet to happen. No issues with loading paper or ink. Pretty quick to print. Quality of print is amazing. So far no paper jams. Love the fact that it scans and copies too. I did buy extra ink off of here, and did not subscribed to the auto renewal of ink. For the price, this is a no brainer. I use this almost daily for my small business and no issues.

Easy to setup, I only use this for home use. Printed several color photos, on photo paper, and was satisfied with the results. So far I'm satisfied with the performance. Value for price seem to be good.
- James2023-11-05Just plug in Play on Linux Mint 21.2 - Really easy to setup
I have Linux Mint 21.2 on ASUS laptop. I have used HP Printer for over 20 years, and after buying the last HP Laptop and Printer, I have decided to never buy from them again. The printers are just getting too cheap. The design on the last Hp Printer was total junk. Paper jams, parts breaking. While I did try out the instant ink for the last two years, that does save you a bunch of money. But when you need ink, don't think you will just go buy one at Walmart. Because it might work a few times, and then it will not work. If you are still subscribed. Brother Refresh I hope will be better at the delivery. If not I will just buy them myself. But as for the setup.... Wow it was easy in Linux. I just plugged in USB and it found it immediately. Printed on first try. Way better settings. With generic drivers, it worked. From the printer keypad, I found my router. Just added the security key and it connected. Updated Firmware in about 5 minutes. I printed from my Android phone without any big setup. Just choose print, and then find your new printer in list. The last few times I have installed printers in Windows or Linux Mint, it has been a real pain. This Brother printer seems well made compared to any printers I have bought in years. I have bought expensive photo printers from HP that used to be well made and lasted me over ten years. When I saw the ugly white printers that will look dirty in a couple days, I decided I will not buy another printer from HP. So far the Brother Printer looks great, prints fast, and without hassle.
- Amazon Customer2024-06-17It's OK?
I dislike that I had a very hard time getting the printer to connect to my devices. I still have not been able to connect the wireless on my phone or laptop that app continues to give me an error message. This is one of the main reason why I brought it was because it was wireless but as of today I have not been able to connect it. In order for me to scan or print my document I have to connect it with the cable for it to work. Yes! I have updated the software it says is the most current firmware but continues to give me error messages that I get so frustrated. About the free ink it is ridiculous they tried to charge me when it says I am suppose to get free ink for 3 month this is a joke. I done all the process to get my free ink and have not receive not even one refill. It is so frustrating when a company advertise a bonus to get their product but do not follow through on their commitment. It is very upsetting. The quality of the printer is good and it does scan very well. Suggest that a better break down should be given to connect your wireless printer since your link takes you to different link and never get the solution resolved.
- Lee in IL2024-06-17Downsizing from a commercial printer. Very satisfied.
I formerly did a lot of printing from my home office and had a commercial printer from Dell. Each cartridge cost $90. There were also other serviceable parts that needed replacing every few years. Fortunately, I am now retired and downsizing my home. My printing needs are miniscule compared to my prior needs. My huge desk needs to go. My printer needs to go. I am not giving up my NAS. I thought I would miss the printer speed, the duplexing, the color and quality that my old Dell provided. I was wrong to worry. This little Brother product while slow, accomplishes all my needs now. I am very satisfied with this purchase. The J1010DW might be missing some components that you might need. There is no USB connection. It is strictly wireless WIFI. If you are not competent in WIFI connections or want faster throughput, consider the J1170DW. For a little more money you get wired connectivity, and, I think, faster communication on a wired network. I would buy this printer again. Knowing its limitation, I would recommend this printer to my friends and family. I did not need to use Tech support, so I did not rate that. The touch screen is not a real touch screen. Saying that it is a touch screen is a bit of a stretch but the keypad was sufficient.
- cats2024-07-07Took a minute
I just lucked in to selecting the correct buttons, options etc for set up and so it only took about 45 minutes (my sister had to hire someone). This little printer seems to be a good quality though. I have only used it a handful of times, but so far so good. The only thing (and maybe it's user incompetency?) is that In order to go from printing function to scanner, I have to go to my settings on my computer and change the option . That took more than a minute to figure out as I thought I could just select "Scan" on the device - no - . Anyway unless I learn otherwise, it is just be a bit of back and forth for me as I need to switch options. I am used to a big fancy office machine though, so it may be that all personal wireless printers function this way. All said, I think it is a good purchase and hope it stands up to time!
