- Dale T. Steele2024-04-18Sturdy Compact SSD Drive A Solid Choice
The drive arrived with adequate but minimal packing which I appreciate. I inspected it for flaws and connected to my iMac via usb hub. No problems detected. Plug and Play with my intel iMac. I transferred several text files and tested it for problems with Disk Utility. No problems detected and files transferred. With 53 MB used, 512.09 GB of space remain. Ejected without problem from iMac finder. I had similar performance on my Raspberry Pi 400 where I played a video, transferred files and ejected the drive without problem. I like the look of the drive and it is compact and feels solid. The orange cover has a soft but firm feel. The USB cable seems solid but it too short for the drive to rest flat on a desk when attached to an iMac. A better setup would be to connect it to a hub on a flat surface. Alternatively using a small stand to hold the drive so that the cable isn't under stress should work well. The cable should be several inches longer to better handle standard USB connections on desktops. It is long enough for laptops. The dual USB cable connector option is a good feature increasing the range of devices that can be used with the drive. Can it work on each of my devices and operating systems? I tested the drive with my Raspberry Pi, iPad, iPhone as well as several intel iMacs. It required too much power to work with my 9.7" iPad pro on battery. It did work when I used a dongle with power via a lightening connector. File transfer and opening worked. I connected it to several iMacs with good performance. I transferred nearly 20 gigs of audio files from content I've created which included downloading from the cloud before transfer. The drive handled that action well which involved over 700 files. Transfer rates were good. I ran Disk Utility afterwards and no problems were identified. Caution: there isn't a "safe-eject" option for disconnecting a USB storage device from iOS/iPad. If you can't shut the device down first, recommendation is to avoid write-caching setting. I haven't determined if this is active on the Kootion. 💥I shut down my iPad before ejecting the drive to be safe. I posted this question to the Amazon sellers but did not receive an answer. This is a good solution for compact file storage and transfer between your devices. It seems best suited for use with laptops but is capable of connecting with desktops and mobile devices. Use caution if iOS use is a major intended purpose because it isn't clear if the drive can be safely ejected without shutting down the device first. This uncertainty and a cable that should be several inches longer kept me from giving it a 5 star rating.
- Julia P2024-05-31so small, so durable, so portable!
I use this to hold my audiobooks off of my laptop. It is a dream to use. A strong, durable little piece. But so small! Smaller than a deck of cards and holds so much! I absolutely life and die by this little hard drive now.

This little thing is incredibly small for a 512GB drive. It looks smaller than an M.2 SSD unless it is a micro-sized unit inside... I am not willing to open it up and find out but am curious if it is actually running off of an SD card or similar. Formatted as exFAT, there is 476.92 GB usable space detected by Windows 11. This is standard practice, since the space displayed on the packaging is in GB (1,000 bytes = 1 GB) while the space usable by 64-bit operating systems like Windows is in GiB (1,024 bytes = 1 GiB). I started copying folders containing firstly a large quantity of smallish photos and text files, then folders containing a smaller quantity of large movie and database files. It was writing around 60-70 Mbps with the small files sequentially as reported by Windows Explorer. It had trouble with the larger files, settling down to a sustained write speed of 30-50 Mbps. I checked and made sure the USB port it is connecting to is operating at at least USB 3.0. This drive seems suited to off-the-beaten-path adventures where it would be used for capturing lots of static photography, and perhaps once in the evening while the campfire is cooking the meal, a few extra-large videos.
- NeverB42024-04-29Very Robust and Fast External Hard Drive
This hard drive was built for travel. The robust casing is perfect to be able to just toss it into your bag or pocket and go with it. It’s very protected with the shock-absorbing case and offers great file read/write speeds that beat any USB-A flash drive. Having USB-C connectivity and speeds with the extremely compact size of this drive, makes it easily manageable. I’d recommend this drive for anyone that needs a high-speed USB-C storage drive that is super compact and durable and doesn’t need super mass storage since this device is only 512GB. Great product.

I got this external hard drive to replace a really old one that I had that was a bit clunky and big and was running a bit slow. I use an external hard drive for my PC games specifically so that I don’t take up internal hard drive space on my laptop, and I was able to seamlessly transfer over all of my files to this new hard drive really quick and my game worked just great off of this new hard drive. This hard drive is physically about a third of the size of my other external hard drive, and it has a half a terabyte of space which is more than enough for what I need. It comes with a cable that is USB-C as well as traditional USB for plugging in. My laptop recognized the drive right away and my games actually work a lot faster since this is a solid-state hard drive. Very happy with this!

I have had no issues with this solid state drive. It's not the smallest, but isn't the biggest either. I really appreciate that they included a silicone protective case.
- Amazon Customer2024-04-02Basically a big thumb drive, which is fine
I got this to use as a portable drive for sharing and moving files between computers. I have it hooked up to my KM switch so that it's always present whichever computer I'm using. This is super convenient because I can store anything I'll need on the other computer later. It's simply plug and play and worked fine right out of the box. The case seems durable and is very small. It basically serves the purpose of a large thumb drive, which is exactly what I need it for. It's larger physically than a thumb drive, but it's worth it for the ample space it provides. My computer reads 476 GB of writeable space, which seems about right.
- Tony & Claws2024-04-05Good drive
Always need more externals, this is a good one and it gets the job done. Works great for having games installed on an external.
