The Ceilo Breeze plus was easy to set up with my Mr Cool 24K mini-split. I could connect easily with my cell phone anywhere in the house, much better than the bluetooth connection on the Mr Cool wall thermostat. Enabling the "follow me" function seemed to work well to sense the room temperature in the room instead of up high on the wall in the head unit. It was also able to send an IR control signal anywhere in the room, even 24 feet away (a big weakness of the stock remote). I didn't need, or want, any of the scheduling or cell phone features. I just wanted an easy to use "wife approved" thermostat to control my mini-split. Unfortunately, as with most things these days, the breeze plus seemed to focus on the techy features more than basic functionality. We have frequent power outages and I discovered the Breeze Plus did not retain all of my settings when the power went out, most notably the follow-me function. So I would need to reset everything with each power outage, and needing to use a cell phone to accomplish this is awkward. It does save scheduling, the set temp, and maybe other settings, so it was odd the follow-me function isn't restored also. Maybe they can support this in the future. The breeze plus also requires a wired power connection, either with a USB powered plug, or with a hard-wired 24VAC line. I didn't have a wall outlet within reach of the best locations for the thermostat, and running a dedicated 24VAC line would have taken some work. It's a shame there isn't a battery powered option, both to handle frequent power outages, and to allow usage when an outlet isn't available nearby. Ironically, the nearly identical thermostat (also made by Ceilo) that came with the Mr Cool mini-split runs on batteries. Finally, the breeze plus is only available in black. It's a minor annoyance, but a black thermostat would really stand out against our white walls. That alone wouldn't prevent me from keeping it, but combined with the power situation I decided it was better to return it. It's a big expense for something that doesn't offer much benefit over the stock thermostat or remote control.
- TM2022-10-20This is the wifi controller to get for your mini-split...
If you have a mini-split that did not come with built-in wifi controls (and even if you have one with them) this is the wifi controller to get (Cielo Breez Plus). I have two Fujitsu HVAC units, one with wifi controls and one without. I've tried a different brand of wifi controller (name begins with an S), but I didn't like it for a few reasons. It had no local controls, so if someone used the Fujitsu remote, it would be out of sync. Plus, the settings in the app never matched what the Fujitsu remote could do. For example, the Fujitsu would adjust temperatures in two degree, even increment, but the controller would change to 1 degree, odd numbers at places across its range (apparently a rounding error, according to the manufacturer). The app didn't have all of the correct functions of the Fujitsu app either. It was missing the right swing mode and couldn't set minimum heat. I got tired of trying to get these things added with the manufacturer. The Fujitsu built-in wifi controller was clumsy. Very difficult to set up, and then their app was slow and difficult to use. So I bought two CIelo Breez Plus units. They have been absolutely perfect. Easy to set up. Settings in the app match the Fujitsu remote almost exactly. In fact, Cielo's website lets you confirm that your exact remote model number will work with their system, and you use the remote model number to set up the software, so you know it's right. The app is clean, quick, and works well. All functions work, and you don't need to sign up for any premium plans to get access to them. I love having local controls too, so when the kids come and change something, it's immediately reflected in the app. I took the batteries out of the Fujitsu remotes and stored them away. I've always just set a temperature on the Fujitsu and let it do its thing to achieve it. So I can't understand many of the comments I've read where people are having issues with temperature control with the Cielo Breez Plus. I suspect they are using the "Comfy" mode which relies on the Cielo making adjustments to temperature setpoint based upon its internal temperature sensor. I've never had a need for this because the Fujitsu's control to their own temperatures so well. I could see "Comfy" creating some conflicts because it could end up fighting the internal temperature control of a mini-split. I might end up using "Comfy" to set up some thresholds to turn the mini-split on (from an off state) at very low and very high temperatures, in case I forget to do it manually when the seasons change, but this is all I personally see it being useful for. Plus this integrates with Smartthings perfectly, which is my home automation system of choice. Again, based on my experience with a different brand and a built-in wifi controller, if you're looking for one of these IR-blaster style wifi units for your HVAC, this is the one to get.
- VWrestle972020-05-28Much better than I was expecting and I was already expecting a good product.
I purchased this to replace my troublesome USB dongle that was used to connect my HVAC mini-split system to be controlled over the internet. The problem with my previous internet controlled USB dongle is that since my home network is very intermittent, many times when the home network goes downor has complicatons, it would be difficult for the USB dongle to reconnect to the home network, many times making it impossible to reconnect succesfully back to the home network and then I would have to physically go back to the home to reastablsh the USB dongle to the WiFi connection. The USB was a simple device with a lot of problems. Now, with this Ceilo device used to replace the troublesome USB dongle, the Ceilo device is much more robust. The Cielo handels all faulty network conditions without fail. Any time the home network goes down, the Ceilo can reconnect within a reasonably quick time without confusion, and the really nice thing about the Ceilo is that the WiFi icon on the Ceilo display will help determine any network problems or what casued the problem by monitoring the WiFi icon. If the WiFi icon is blinking, then it indicates it isn't connected to the home network most likely due to the home router problem. If the WiFi icon is accompanied by an exlcamation mark, then Ceilo may still be wireless connected to the home router, but there is no Internet connection from the ISP. These tools makes it really nice to troubleshoot and give status about your home newtork without having to use other external tools. The features on the Cielo is really nice. It can do exactly what I need, does it very reliably and very easy to operate from either on a phone app or on the device display, in additoin it can do more that I was expecting. Everything is well thought out and it was just designed to my design expectations; coming from a tech minded person. You can schedule certain Temperatures at certain times on certain days of the week. You can do those same settings also based on a mile range that you declare in poximity to the Cieo device. So, right before I get home, the temperature (and humidity range if your HVAC has the capability) is exactly in the range where I need it to be. Really nice. It is more than just a remote controller that you can control any IR remote controlled HVAC system over the internet from remote distances, but it also works as a very smart configurable thermostat controller for your HVAC. The Ceilo not only fixed my problem of having to reconfigure my down WiFi network, but it also functionality to my HVAC that I never had before... for a compbarable price to my previous inferior USB Wifi dongle. One more nice thing about the Cielo device is that you can make the physical button on the device only settible in a range of temperatures or turn off the display, lock the display, or even have the buttons inactive from the app, so that no body can reset to the default configuration or if you don't want anyone to tamper with the device settings. Tech support was really knowledgabe, patient, and helpful. I give them 5 stars. The Echo version is just as good but without the physical display or physical buttons to control the temperature, but all can still be done from the app. This is a must have unit, especially if you would like to upgrade the features of an older HVAC system.
- Mac Ponduchi2024-05-08Great product with excellent tehnical support
We have 2 Mitsubishi mini split systems, with 4 internal air handlers (heads) each, to cool/heat our home. For one system we use the kumo cloud, which is the Mitsubishi system for remotely control them, and for the other one we use the Cielo products. First big difference is the price. The complete thermostat system of mitsubishi is about 5-6 times more expensive per each head. Short math takes you to almost $2K for a 4 head system vs around $400 with cielo. Second, the connectivity is way better with cielo as kumo system keeps disconnecting. The app for cielo is more friendly and it gives you more options to customize your needs. Third important thing is that with kumo, the temperature is measured up on the wall where the head is installed. With cielo you can keep it close to you or at least at the height of your body. This, in my opinion, increases the level of comfort. Setting up the Cielo devices is super easy and fast and tehnical support is under 2 min away if you need it. Since we have a 4 head system where we use the cielo’s, we had to buy 4 of them. One started to have some issues with the connectivity but after just one phone call to their customer tehnical support, everything was fixed. Overall this is a great option, at least for the mini split systems and probably for the conventional ones too
- TomC2023-07-03Best WiFi thermostat available
i purchased and installed two mini-split air conditioners that heat and cool. They didn’t come with a WiFi control capability so i went looking for options. Ones made by the manufacturer were costly and hard to install but I found some that had limited capability but the two I tried were tricky to install and use and not universally compatible. This was an issue for me since my mini-splits were from different manufacturers (Mitsubishi and Pioneer), and getting one unit that would allow me to control each unit from a single app on my phone was a bridge too far. After struggling several, each of which offered limited features, were temperamental to install and use, and that would not control both units, I finally I found the Cielo. It does nearly everything the factory controllers would do, it was much, much easier to install and use, and it allows me to control both mini-splits via WiFi from anywhere using a single app. Now I can heat or cool my rooms in advance of need, and they are perfectly comfortable when I arrive. There’s nothing to not love about these units. They do the job and the WiFi app is simple and reliable, as it works every time and does just what I want it to do. It’s so good that I bought their newest offering, the Cielo Smart Thermostat, for controlling my central system. I will post a review on that later, but it seems to be working perfectly so far. The control features are as good as or better than many of the big name competitors at a substantially lower price, and they integrate with Siri, Google, Alexa, and SmartThings. I’m very impressed with the performance of these Cielo thermostats. Even when I had some issues during setup I found their technical support to be superb. They offer phone, chat, and email support and during their operating hours (9am - 9pm Eastern Time) they are fast to respond. In my experience they have been very knowledgeable, patient, and effective, they answered my every question and quickly resolved minor issues that arise during my setup. Based on my experience with Cielo I recommend them very highly. My summary would be that they work with many different mini-splits, they are easy to setup and use, and when they are not they offer very responsive and effective tech support, they are full featured, including the ability to control the mini-splits from the screen on the Cielo device, and they sell at a very reasonable price.
- NoBigWoop2021-09-13The Cielo Breez Plus CAN work as a thermostat!
Several commenters have said that this device is nothing more than a way to make your AC mini-split controllable from your cell phone. But it’s more — it does have an internal temperature sensor, and it CAN operate as a thermostat, but you wouldn’t know that from the supplied printed instructions, which make no mention of the Comfy mode settings required to enable thermostat operation. I didn’t know this mode existed until I read Joe R’s comment from 11/23/2020, which sums it up nicely. I was able to get Comfy mode operational, but had several questions related to fine tuning. I selected Support from Cielo’s web site, per the printed instructions, and a live chat box popped up. I entered one of my questions, and customer service rep Mark immediately picked up. After a little back and forth, Mark decided it would be best to proceed by phone. I gave him my phone number and he called me immediately. He patiently worked with me until I both knew what to do and why. GREAT customer service! Basic setup of the Cielo app is straightforward, and is explained well in the printed instructions. After setup, to enable Comfy mode… Fire up the app, and click on the appropriate device. At the top of the device page, you can select mode — I’m using Cool. Fan Speed is obvious. Swing does work (if your AC remote supports it), but setting it isn’t obvious — you need to eventually do trial and error on the various Position settings to get the air distribution angle(s) that you want. For now don’t worry about it. At the bottom of the page click on Esaver. At the top of the next page click on Comfy Mode. Ah ha! At the top of the next page turn the slider switch on, then click on the right arrow next to it. The following page displays all the settings related to Comfy Mode. For my situation: Temperature range: 74 degrees to 74. (Operating this slider would be easier on a tablet.) If room temp falls below 74, Cielo turns off cooling by setting AC to 80 (leaving power to AC device on), while leaving fan on (Mode = Fan). Fan speed is Low. Swing is Position 2, which for my AC unit (Lennox) is the uppermost air output direction. The LED indicator on the AC unit stays On. If room temp rises above 74, Cielo turns on AC cooling. Power is On, Mode is Cool, Fan speed stays Low, Swing stays in Position 2, and LED stays on. Temperature setting sets the AC device to 73, a bit lower than my 74 range setting, to insure that the AC unit keeps cooling during this period. Alter these settings to suit your situation. Then be sure to click Done so that the Cielo app keeps your settings! I’ll leave it to you to experiment with Morning, Aternoon, Evening, and Night settings. You can have the Cielo device control for humidity instead of temperature, but note that whatever you may set up for Comfy Humidity will undo your Comfy Temperature settings! Feel free to use your regular AC remote as you desire to alter your current situation; Cielo only sends commands to the AC device once each time room temp goes above or below your Cielo range setting. It doesn’t keep fighting with what you do with your regular remote the rest of the time. If your remote won’t let you alter settings, click its on/off button. This setup into apparently applies equally to the Cielo non-display unit, which can apparently do the same job(s), but I like having the display on the Breez Plus, to track room temp and see what the Cielo app is doing.
- Paolo Gaudiano2023-02-23Great product, amazing tech support
In a nutshell: if I could, I would give them 6 or 7 stars for tech support! I purchased a Cielo Breez Plus to see if it would work remotely for a B&B in Italy. When I arrived I found out that the A/C + heating split is an old (2008) model from a relatively unknown Chinese brand. I tried the auto-detect, but the Cielo unit did not recognize my remote, and the manufacturer did not appear on the list for manual settings. I emailed them expecting it would take more than the two days I was staying here. Instead, I got a response within a few hours encouraging me to call their support number. I ended up speaking with Sam, who asked me to walk through a number of steps, essentially testing all the functionality of the remote while pointing it at the Breez Plus unit, which collected the control codes. After that he said he'd talk to his data team and see what they could do. Again, I expected it would take a while to hear back, but he called me back the next day. I was away from the unit and asked if we could chat a few hours later, and when I got home I let him know I was back and he called me immediately. Much to my surprise, I turned on the unit and it worked! They had already added the unit to their database. Sam asked me to test all the functionality while he was on the line. This is possibly the best customer support experience I have ever had. As to the unit itself, I need multiple of these to control multiple splits in a B&B. I wanted something that would be easy to use for my guests while allowing me to keep an eye on things remotely. I have tried other products and had been reluctant to buy this one because of its price. But after buying and returning two other, less expensive competing products, I can say this unit, while expensive, is definitely worth it. The unit works really well either as a physical controller on-site, or remotely trough the app. It has exactly all the features I wanted: easy to use, easy to control remotely so I can monitor usage, easy to set boundaries so our guests won't use extreme settings to turn the place into a refrigerator or a sauna. I also tried it while my phone was connected through a VPN back in the US (even though I was in Italy at the time), and it worked flawlessly with a nearly instantaneous response time. This unit is amazing, and I will be buying several more shortly. Whether you run a B&B like me, or want to use it for your own home, this product is head and shoulders above the competition.
- Wes2019-06-09Intuitive App, Easy to Set Up Hardware
I really like this thermostat / remote control. I have an Alpine ductless mini-split air conditioner in my detached garage. I was looking for a humidistat, as the AC by itself runs continuously in "dry" mode as it doesn't have a built-in humidistat. I also wanted a way to be able to remotely control my unit so that I can adjust the temperature remotely before I go out to work in the garage. The unit is very easy to set up. It took me all of 3 minutes to go from a sealed box to a working thermostat with remote control via WiFi. I was very impressed by this. The app allowed me to login with my Google profile, so this was not yet another username/password combo I needed to make. Once in, it was just a few quick steps to configure it to my AC unit. The app itself is very intuitive and has all the features I'd like to see, so far. The unit and app remind me of the approach taken by ecoBee, which I use in my home. You can set ranges and actions for either temperature or humidity levels. Given that my AC unit has a built in temperature sensor, I don't need the "comfy temperature" feature really, but the "comfy humidity" feature is very helpful to me. Additionally, you can set up a schedule like a standard thermostat where you can cycle your unit on/off or adjust temperatures based on your needs. This is nice given that there's no way to do this on the AC unit itself. WiFi reception appears to be very good. My garage is across my property from my home and WiFi, while it reaches the garage, tends to be weak. My cell phone has intermittent WiFi connectivity when I'm in the garage. This thermostat has no trouble staying connected and operating correctly, and my router reports that it has a reasonably strong connection to the thermostat. The hardware itself appears to be based on Espressif's ESP32 Arduino architecture, with which I just spent several months working. It would almost be worth buying a second one to open it up and take a look at how they developed their unit just for fun. Infrared reception to the AC unit is great. I moved it around the garage just to experiment with it, and it appears to flood the room with infrared well enough that I probably could've mounted the thermostat wherever I wanted to. In the end, I put it relatively close to the unit (but out of direct airflow) as that's what made the most sense, though. My AC unit came with a USB thumb drive WiFi controller that works with the NetHome app. I tried it, and while it's "ok", it's not the best and it has no real advanced or programmable features to speak of. This thermostat makes up for that, and I will probably disconnect the one that came with the AC unit going forward. I should not that customer service was helpful. I talked to them on the phone when I had a question about setting up the "comfy humidity" feature (which, to be fair and had I opened my eyes, I would've been able to figure out myself). They answered quickly and walked me through my question. I also talked to them via email when the app appeared to stop working. It turned out that they were having an issue with their AWS server(s) that was resolved relatively quickly. Overall, I'm extremely happy with this thermostat and will absolutely buy another one when I install my next mini-split in my other building. It's well made, easy to use, easy to set up, has plenty of features, and appears to be well supported by the folks who made it.
- JoJoCamel2024-04-29Product and customer service are excellent
This is a fantastic device for controlling a Mr. Cool mini split system. When I initially went to integrate Alexa I was confronted with an error message suggesting I either update or reinstall the Alexa app. This occurred a few times. I phoned CIELO customer service and was fortunate enough to get Ian who helped me get everything operating the way it should. Hat's off to CIELO for providing such wonderful customer service. Absolutely excellent. I will be purchasing a second unit to control a second system. ONE MORE THING I'd like to add that's important for Mr. Cool mini-split owners, (and perhaps others). Without the Breez Plus Controller, the fan in the Mr. Cool mini-split will run continuously. That is the way it was designed. Put this controller in COMFY mode, (after setting the range of temperatures you designate to keep your living space comfortable), and your mini-split will turn on and off as per your preset temperatures. Example. High temp of 72°, system turns on. Low temp at 68°, all shuts down. Mini-split fan does not run continuously, (Mr. Cool and maybe others). There are two things I'd like CIELO to work on, and I bet they can make modifications to obtain results. If you're in "Follow Me" mode and you shut down, the next time you start your system the Breez Plus will not remember "Follow Me" and you'll have to enable it again. This is likely not the fault of the controller; but CIELO could get around this by "remembering" that "Follow Me" was implemented previously and have it "enable" shortly after the cooling system completes power up. "Follow Me" may be specific to Mr. Cool and some other systems; I don't believe it's universal. ALSO, if I'm in COMFY mode and I use Alexa to shut down, said command will be implemented if the unit is running. That said, once the temperature threshold gets to the high point (even though I've asked Alexa to shut the unit down), the cooling system will again go into action as the system will still be in COMFY mode. Again, this may be more of a Mr. Cool issue and not CIELO's. I love this device and the company (customer service), and I'm sure I'll purchase a second. COMFY mode is what I've been looking for. And it works very well.
- M. Park2021-08-07Initially was disappointed, tech support was great
UPDATE 08/27023. Just adding after owning this. Unit is still going strong. The Breez can be integrated with Google Home so you can bring up Google Assistant and say "Turn on Bedroom AC" as you're driving home and it'll do so and issue voice commands for the usual stuff. I also had a further discussion with tech support about the remote configuration issue. Here's something I learned - the "controller" that receives the signals from the remote in a lot of lower end window ACs *are actually the exact same hardware as its higher BTU models*. This means there are HIDDEN FEATURES in these remotes that are "shut off" from you if you buy lower BTU ACs. Apparently I inadvertently upgraded the controls of my window AC by programming the Cielo Breez to emulate a *higher end digital remote*. This is why I can now simply set the thermostat TO a particular temperature instead of mashing repeatedly on the screen to wait for it to increment. I can go from Low to High fan speed and vice versa. I can directly pick a particular cooling mode without cycling through them, etc. If you have an LG LW6017R (6000 BTU) window AC unit, talk with the Cielo tech support and ask them about this! You will be able to give yourself a significant upgrade to your controls if you manually program the remote to match "the next closest one". Your experience with this product will greatly depend on whether or not the product is able to 1) properly detect your room humidity/temperature and 2) properly be able to detect your remote that has a feature set that matches yours. I have a dumb window AC and my biggest gripe with it was the inability to control its functions with the remote that had serious range issues. The remote that came with my LG window air conditioner was really bad - had limited range, even if I changed out the battery it would barely broadcast a signal from 3 feet away. I also wanted to be able to schedule when the machine turns on and off. I hate having to set the timer every time I leave for the day. So out of curiosity I did a Google search wondering if such a controller that could work with "dumb" ACs existed. Another brand showed up (Sensibo), and then this one did. I went with the Breez for several reasons. One, the "cloud" service is free. The other requires you to pay for "advanced features". Two, even this higher end model costs less than the rival brand, and most importantly this does not require a wall mount. It comes with a stand that you can attach to it so you can have it sitting on your desk or nightstand. If you rent a house, you'll know how important this is so you don't have to make holes on the wall or tape stuff to the wall. Lastly, the onscreen touch display allows you to control the AC unit manually without the need for the app, which gives you further flexibility since that makes the Cielo Breez essentially a full-blown thermostat. The onscreen display allows you to control a majority of your AC's functions - mode, temperature, fan speed, and for more fancy ACs - your flap panel. The biggest caveat is compatibility, however. I initially set my Thermostat up using the auto configuration tool and it picked out a remote that was essentially the "generic profile". This profile sucked. I had no control over the modes, had to press repeatedly for certain fan speeds, and temperature control was difficult as well. For a "smart" controller it made the controller feel incredibly "dumb". I spoke with their tech support and told them about this, and they helped me go through the manual control process and to pick out a model that is closest to what I have. Now that I picked out a good model, I can do all the fine tuning I need. I can instantly pick a mode from the app, I can instantly set a particular fanspeed without having to cycle through them and I can set my setpoint temperature quickly and efficiently. *Big caveat*, you will most likely need to calibrate the unit's hygrometer (the thing that keeps track of your room temperature and humidity). The unit I got often measured 2-4 degrees Farenheit higher than another hygrometer I have (which I also bought from Amazon many years ago for $15 and still going strong by the way!) and humidity was often 2-3% higher as well. The app provides this opportunity to do an offset. You want this to be as accurate as possible so the comfort you're feeling right now without the smart controller matches how it'll be when you have this thing take over. Power is provided through an electrical hookup and it also comes with a regular AC adapter in case you just want to do it the old fashioned way, which I did. In conclusion, if you're experiencing performance issues with the unit, don't angirly write a review just yet - get on the Cielo website during normal business hours and contact their support, they have an online chat feature! From what I can tell their support is sourced from within the US as the person I spoke with was fluent and clearly could communicate what needed to be done.
