    I am loving WYZE

Okay, first off, I am NOT a company representative, nor am I being paid or compensated for this review. That being said, I accidentally discovered WYZE when I needed to replace a security light, and their version was on sale for some reason. Since then, I have purchased the doorbell, additional cameras, and the thermostat. I absolutely love how well-designed and easy they are to install. I had never installed a thermostat before, but a quick YouTube video and a little prep (and a magnifying glass because I am going blind in my old age) was all that was needed. The installation was super-simple, and once the power was turned back on, it worked like a charm. The display is clear, and I like that it is only on when you are near it. The software is pretty good and easy to use, but I think it could still use a little polishing to make it better. Everything is controlled by your iOS (or Android) device, allowing you to set schedules, etc. You can automatically share this across any device with access to your account (no charge to use the thermostat). It is very refreshing to find a product line that just works. After using it for a few days, we realized that it seems far more accurate than our original (Honeywell) device, and we have had to adjust our settings to compensate a little (it was a bit cold at our old setting). Loving it so far, and would happily recommend it to anyone looking to upgrade thiers.

Works great after overcoming some bumpy start. C-Wire issue. PRO/CON. Some helpful tips.

Attached are the wires for my old Thermostat (Honeywell CT3500) and Control Board. As you can see the C-Wire is on the Control Board but not on the Thermostat. This means that a C-Wire Adapter (Provided in the box) needs to be installed next to the Control Board. (Realized later that there might be a C-Wire floating in the hole behind the Thermostat. My Thermostat uses batteries, so C-Wire is not required. There is no harm in pulling the wires out from the hole after removing them from the old Thermostat and checking if there is a C-Wire. It is much easier to install if the C-Wire is presented) Now comes to the fun parts for installing the C-Wire Adapter. There are two Y-Wires and one C-Wire on the Control Board. The instructions from the WYZE App did not have this configuration. Called tech support. After several checks, I got the answer to leave the C-Wire open and merge two Y-Wires. It is simple and easy by following the WYZE App instructions and finishing the installation. Turned on the power and again it was straightforward to add the Thermostat to WYZE App. During the testing, heating passed but cooling failed. Called tech support again and some time troubleshooting without success (Tech supports were overall very good, no long waiting time, follow up closely, easy to communicate with both phone and email for pictures etc. The issue was resolved on the same day before tech’s further follow up). Did some research and tried to put back the original C-Wire to the Control Board (with the C-Wire from the C-Wire Adapter on the same terminal). It worked surprisingly. Later it was realized that the diagram from the WYZE App did indicate that the original C-Wire should be kept with C-Wire from the C-Wire Adapter (See attached picture). But there is no word. PRO: The Thermostat looks nice (see attached for installed) and well made. Though there were some bumps for me due to non-standard configuration, the installation and setup are overall clear and straightforward. CON: WYZE Thermostat did not qualify for local utility discount or rebate. Some helpful tips: 1. Do not forget to remove the plastic cover sheet, otherwise the motion sensor to activate the display won’t work (Still works if you touch or turn the display wheel with the sheet on). 2. The Thermostat was first tested without fastening to the wall (So it wouldn’t damage the wall in case it was not working). Got the problem to remove the face panel. Finally, a small flat head screwdriver was used to pry it out through the gap. If I knew this issue early, I would have used a small Bolt/Nut to fasten the base plate to the optional wall plate (Provided in the box). So, it will be easy to just pull the face panel out by holding the wall plate. This problem will not exist if you follow the instructions and fasten the base plate to the wall before putting the face panel. 3. Make sure the setting value in the Temperature Preferences and Schedule is indeed what you wanted to prevent surprising action of the HVAC system. 4. There is no harm to calibrate the temperature and add temperature correction in Advanced settings. Mine was 2~3 degrees off. The temperature correction is a better place to adjust the temperature setting temporarily while keeping it at Auto. Here is an example: turn on the AC 1degree cooler – it is much easier just to add 1 degree in the temperature correction. Decrease 1 degree (Got 1 degree hotter) if you want to save energy. After using it for about a week, the Thermostat ran well as expected and the App is easy to use. Update rating to 5-star from 4-star after running for more than three weeks: Never has issue and is easy to control. Update after 9 months: never had a problem; found out that the climate sensor (default is the room sensor) can also be used to control the room temperature with rules; in case there is wifi-off issue, do not reset from the device, instead reset by power off and on through the power panel.

    Very easy to install.

Ten to twenty minutes to install and connect to wifi and Alexa. Works perfectly. I only wish the remote sensors were available.

if you live in the south, you will never be happy with this. no eco friendly.

Removed & discarded my expensive Nest that cost me thousands of $ in faulty readings, despite new thermostat wires, who I had to issue refunds to my guests, and in new equipment purchase as it was just not living up to its expected promises. Nest is junk in my estimation. Had extreme difficulties getting the Nest to stay programmed . This WYze was fairly easy to install although it needed an additional wire pulled to the furnace. the Nest was always trying to find it's connection and was worthless most of the time. The Wyze does stay connected but will be problem if you cannot keep your wifi at 2.6 GHz. It is impossible to connect at any other speed. Downsides: Forget the set back feature if you live in the South. With our high summer temperatures, it says it will be 8 HOURS to reach 72*. REALLY???? HOURS!!???? No sir!! So I leave it at 70* all the time in order to achieve any sleep at night. I don't know what happened today, as it was actually not as hot today as it has been many weeks this summer, but when I got back from an appointment, the thermostat was at 78*!! That is just not acceptable, neither is sweating in my bedroom, waiting for hours for the temperature to drop so I can get some sleep. I returned home at 6:30, reset that darned thing from 78* to 71*, and here is it 9 p.m., and it is still 76*. Here's the issue: Wyze is designed by people living in the far far north, and they don't know what a hot summer is. They may be fine with 78* in their life, but I just walked in from 104* and it is ridiculous to me that this thermostat does not have a fan speed control. EVERY HVAC unit in the world installed in the last 15 years has multi speed fans. Wyze does not seem to know this. There is one speed- very slow. Liken this to a MOdel T Ford puttering along at 15 mph. That's about the same as this ridiculous piece of equipment. It just isn't up to snuff. I don't know how anyone up north deals with this when it's cold and the house is freezing. I sure hope it works better for them, because that is definitely a matter of life and death.

    Wildly inaccurate temperature readings

Edit: Added a star, because customer service sent me a new thermostat, no fuss or fighting, and it arrived in 2 days somehow. Still inaccurate (by about 8° instead of 10°-18°) and I'm thinking that's actually a feature and not a bug. Setting it to max comfort, instead of max savings, seems to paradoxically reduce the wild temp swings. YOU'RE PROBABLY GOING TO NEED TO TINKER WITH THIS. It's not buy it, set it, forget it. At least not with an old steam boiler up in the North East mountains, but with sensors, and digging into the advanced settings, I think I'm making it do its job. The temp readings fluctuate 10° up and down by the minute leaving you having to guess the approximate range of temperature in home. Thankfully my old steam boiler system is either on or off using a scheduled system (which the thermostat is great for); otherwise, the thermostat would be worse than useless. The Wyze room sensors actually collect and display accurate data, so I use those to check the actual temperature in the house when I'm away. Sadly, the system can't be set to run based on the room sensor readings (they help create some sort of system wide composite temperature score in conjunction with the thermostat, so the whole system can't figure out the actual temperature). Tech support is an ai chat app that directs a user to unrelated articles on the support website. Good: you can turn your heat on and off remotely Bad: you won't know what the actual temperature is in your home unless you buy room sensors. The system can't be set to run based upon the room sensors, which are actually accurate. Your heat will be turning on and off constantly based on the thermostat temp reading, but never actually warming your home, unless you set scheduled "heat on" and "heat off" times daily that ignore temperature readings on the thermostat.

    I'm all about Wyze now!!

I've been wanting to get this for a very long time now. It's always sold out! finally was able to get it. Super easy to install. It's attached to both mine and my wifes phone so we can adjust the temp when we are not home. Looking to use Wyze on everything at our house. We already have locks, doorbells, and cameras. All linked to our phones. Really great. It's well priced as well! all of the products are.

    Great thermostat

This stat works great. Probably the same as other ones, but if you already have wyze cameras ect. it is a must.

Check the quality, but works great for an OTR truck driver.

I had to remove the 2 rails of pins for the wiring and reinstall them correctly. One was backwards, so the thermostat wouldn't even plug in and both sets were flipped. Once I replaced them as they should be using a photo taken from another review, it worked fine. It recognized the 2 red wires flipped from how it was wired, but the system worked fine, so I left it. Besides that, I installed it for my OTR trucker father in law so he can change the settings remotely for when he leaves and comes home and it works great for that. The app is simple to use with only 2 buttons to change to toggle the temp at home from his phone. It does have an option in the app settings to lock out the knob on the unit, if you have family at home that like to mess with the thermostat, its a simple solution rather than the obnoxious lockout boxes.

    Works great and as expected

I got this ~2yr ago because my previous thermostat was going to be removed by the power company. It was the tech that changed it, so I can't personally speak to how easy they are to install. However, he explained it to me and it made sense if you're familiar with how they work, he/we didn't have any trouble or frustration. The only concern he had was related to whether my (1979) house had a certain wire to the unit. It did, but he said it was simple to fix if it didn't. I really like the ability to set up schedules, routines, behaviors, & lock it in the app. All that is also as expected and why I wanted it. My only complaint is trivial, but I was actually prompted to write this as a REQUEST for them to add the option to have the display always on. It comes on when I walk near it, but my desk is right next to it. I could see the temperature simple by *looking* at it, but since it's always off I have to walk over to it for it to *show* the temperature. It's trivial, but annoying enough a few times a day or week. I do recommend it.

Horrible support. Easy install if your furnace falls into the narrow group in their app.

Horrible support. Easy install if your furnace falls into the narrow group in their app. Mine did not. I called support and talked to someone who assumed that I was dumber than a moss encrusted rock. When they could not help, they promised to pss my problem up the chain to someone who could help. Its been 2 weeks. NO RESPONSE! Since the house was becoming quite cold, I put my 3 engineering degrees to work. I found and downloaded the install instructions for my year old furnace. Then I found where the necessary connections originated in my furnace. I then adjusted the wiring to the thermostat. Then, I applied my electrical and mechanical and computer knowledge and wired the Wyze Thermostat myself. It worked flawlessly after that. (AND, nobody froze to death waiting for the never returned call from WYZE Customer Support!) The operation of the programming to use the thermostat is counter intuitive. And you must save settings multiple times in different places to get them to stick. But, I did accomplish the set up and unguided learning on how to use it over several days. The integration with Google Home is flawless! And, now that everything is setup. It is easy to use. Was this a good purchase? ... Its kind of like having a baby. If you survive the birth, you are very happy! It may seem easy to say that I am not smart enough to be doing this. But, let me remind you that I am a well paid working engineer with 30 years experience and degrees in electrical, mechanical, & IT and an IQ of 136. I have installed several other brands of smart thermostats with no fuss.
