- J. Ansaldo2018-02-01Great Thermostat for SmartThings users.
I have this installed in the Living Room of my condo, connected to 2 radiant heating panels in our ceiling. It is replacing a Mears M21-DP. Install was pretty easy, just take your time and make sure to identify your line and load sides. Pairing with my SmartThings v2 hub was painless. The device handler for SmartThings does not have native Alexa support but you can search and find code to fix that. It is pretty much copy and paste but it does involve some back-end work. The unit runs flawlessly. It has 3 heat stages rather than 1 so I will be interested to see if that fact will help my heating bills. It does supply power to the heating device even when it is off, I assume this is very low power to keep the unit alive. At the highest heat setting the unit will get warm, this is normal according to the manual. The device does try to display the outdoor temperature, however this seems a bit flawed as it only updates when you change the setting. March 22, 2018 - Stepro has updated their custom device handler for SmartThings, as well as created a custom app, that fixes the outdoor temperature issue. The only downside at this point is that I will hear clicking now and then from the device. The sound is similar to a relay engaging so I am assuming that the internal components are just getting worked in and this is normal.
- SavvyShopper2016-04-20First z-wave thermostat available for 220v heaters is awesome!
This thermostat is AWESOME! It's the first 220v thermostat to support z-wave (4/2016). I am using 3 of them with my Nexia system, which supports z-wave devices. For you Nexia users, I think you will be very pleased. I haven't tested it with other z-wave systems, but comments on the Nexia support site indicate that users of other systems are pleased as well. Here's what I like: 1. Seems very well built and solid 2. All the electronics are OUTSIDE the j-box, so that only the wires are inside the j-box. This leaves more for the wires! 3. Very easy to set up 4. Paired well with my z-wave system 5. No built-in scheduler. If you are using z-wave, you don't need it 6. Supports up to 4,000 watts 7. Great customer support - I emailed them several times to make sure it would work with my baseboard heaters. They responded promptly each time. 8. Works with 4-wire systems as well as 2-wire systems and was very easy to install - you can download the manual if you have questions. I forwarded mine to my electrician to verify it would work for my home's heaters before I purchased it.([...]) or the spec sheet ( [...] ) 9. Variable heating (1-4 levels of power) saves money 10. Heating ONLY when you need heat saves lots of money If you are a z-wave user, and have 220v heating, you should definitely consider this item. NOTE: The thermostat does NOT have a scheduler built-in. It is intended to be used with z-wave systems and scheduled from your z-wave app. This makes using the item much simpler, since you don't have to mess with a complex internal scheduling system. If you have a z-wave managed home, here are some things you can do with this thermostat: 1. Schedule each heater (I have 3 zones) to turn on and off 2. Trigger setting changes via mode changes (such as morning, day, evening, sleep) 3. Trigger setting changes via sensor events such as, heat this zone when there is someone present, and don't heat the zone when no one is present (using motion detectors as the trigger) 4. Trigger setting changes using lighting status. When I leave home, I turn of the entry hall light which uses a z-wave switch. When the system "sees" this switch turned off, it automatically sets the mode to AWAY and this turns off the heating and all the other lights, and sets the alarm.
- Anonymous2019-03-18Decent Unit, Lacking Style
I've had this in my z-wave network for a few weeks now. It works quite nicely so I'm happy with the unit. I replaced two thermostats; one was easy to install, the other took me a lot of internet searches to figure out; the instructions could have been more helpful, but I guess the sellers probably find it to more legally safe to suggest just spending a few hundred dollars to get your $60 thermostat installed. Looks are where this thing is really lacking. The unit itself is huge, but the display and buttons are this tiny affair off in the corner. If you're going to have the thing take up that much wall space, at least put a large display on it so that it's visible when you aren't right in front of it. As it is, it has the feel of being designed in the 90s. I guess if they wait another few decades the design might be "classic"! If there were any other z-wave thermostats on the market that I could find, I'd probably have bought them based solely on style, but as these were all that I could find and I have no complaints about their functionality. In fact, their feature where you can have two settings (one each for "eco"and "normal" modes) is very handy. I live in California so turn my heat on every other year or so, so I leave them on eco mode at 12C/54F the vast majority of the time and then just switch to normal heating mode when my apartment actually gets cold.
- Sagi Geva2023-06-19Work as designed!
These work perfectly with my Samsung SmartThings setup. Purchased to replaced another brand which wasn't working reliably. Bought 3 of these, all connected easily and I am now able to control remotely and easily setup in programs. These are set at a rental property and I needed these to make sure Thermostats are set all the way down when the property is not in use. Recommend!
- Ian2018-02-01They work great!
I installed 3 of these upstairs about 3 months ago and they have been working great. I use these with a Smartthings Hub and they were very easy to set up and to change the temperature. I have a lot of smart devices at home and I have setup a bunch of automation with these. I am able to use Smartthings to set the upstairs bathroom to the same temperature as our Ecobee thermostat on the main floor while also setting the 2 bedroom thermostats to different settings depending on the time of day. It also let's me lower the temperature in all the rooms when we leave the house and to bring the temperature back up when we come back. Originally we had programmable thermostats in each room which worked OK as long as nothing in our regular schedule changed. The problem was any time one of us took a day off the house would cool down and we had to run around changing the temperature back up. So glad I got these! If anyone is really into home automation with Smartthings look into Webcore (it's free), it really opens up what you can do and worth learning how to use it.
- Jeff Osoba2020-01-15Buyer Beware!
I recently bought 4 Stelpro Z-Wave Plus KI STZW402WB+ thermostats and installed them this past August. Of the 4 only two remain operable. One has simply failed and will no longer turn on. The other, which is more concerning, looks to have a wiring defect that almost caused a house fire. I've attached a picture and if you zoom in you can see where the wire failed under load. The unit worked fine up until December when we had several days of subzero temperatures. The load on the wires must have been heavy during this time but I wouldn't expect a wire for a thermostat to burn up like this. I've tried contacting Stelpro support multiple times and they have been absolutely non-existent. I definitely would not recommend these units.
- Amazon Customer2018-12-17Fantastic. Easy Set Up. Works Great.
Love it. I've had it for about a week and have zero issues. Set up was a breeze. Took me less than 10 minutes from the time I turned off the breakers, until the time I was sitting on my couch adjusting the temp through the Smartthings app. The setup controls are a little bulky. You definitely need the user guide as it is not at all intuitive. Again though, installation involved connecting two wires and mounting it to the wall. The fact I had to read the user guide to figure out how to change the display to Farenheight and to connect it to my phone is probably being a little picky. I have a very old, drafty house with a boiler to heat the downstairs and an electric line voltage baseboard heater for the upstairs. I have a Nest to control the boiler, and have been looking for something to control the upstairs for a few years. This is the only one I could find that had smart capabilities. It's not a easy on the eyes, or have the bells and whistles of a Nest, but that's probably not a fair comparison. At the end of the day it controls the heat just as well. All in all I'm exptremely please with how easy it was to install and how well it works.
- Piotr2019-11-23Pulsating Normal?
Just installed it and integrated into my Samsung Smarthings ecosystem. Able to monitor and control temp remotely. With Sense, it's a powerful combo. Question- Is the blower fan supposed to pulsate? The fan blows hard, soft, hard, soft. Doesn't send right to me. Could the thermostat be defective? Impossible to monitor due to the pulsating current to the heater and fans. I use Sense to monitor power consumption. Gonna return it and try a different one.
- Norman W.2018-04-30It was easy to install
It was easy to install, and works well with my 240V system. It appears to use variable duty-cycle powering of the heaters (instead of crude on/off) which makes the heaters operate silently. Including it into my Z-wave system took 2 tries, but was ultimately successful. I am downgrading its rating to 3 stars from 5, because there is no hysteresis in its Z-wave reporting. When the measured room temperature is near a transition between 2 integer values, it sends multiple and very frequent Z-Wave messages about the temperature change. It should measure temperatures internally to a tenth of a degree, then only send a temperature change message when the temperature rises or falls by (say) 0.3 degrees since the last message was sent. I don't know if there is any way to upgrade the firmware, so I may be stuck with this behavior. I was going to get 2 more of them for next winter, but I don't want to flood my Z-wave mesh with hundreds of messages. An example of what I am talking about is given below. Note that in the space of about 30 minutes the thermostat sent 104 messages. 2018-04-30 00:02:23.624 Z-Wave received "Thermostat Sun Room 012" temperature update to 74.0 °F 2018-04-30 00:02:33.691 I bought this because I turn on the baseboard heat in my basement office on a completely irregular basis. I never remember to turn it off. I set up the Z-wave+ control to turn it off every day at the same time. If I forget, which I always do, it turns the thermostat down so that the heat is off. Great purchase. I use it with a Home Assistant integration off a Rasberry pi. works great.
