Fairly Decent. Would want more customization.

Does what it says it will do. Also because you can covert scenes to Apple Home it is very easy to integrate into your smart home. Only thing is I wish I could control the portion size. Like if there half amounts would be great for little snacks or dialing in the correct amount. For my cats I think 1.5 would be a great portion but 2 seems too much.

Aqara Smart Pet Feeder C1 - Keeping Your Furry Friend Fed and Happy!

The Aqara Smart Pet Feeder C1 has been a game-changer for me and my beloved furry companion. This ingenious device has not only simplified pet feeding but has also brought peace of mind, knowing that my pet is well taken care of, even when I'm not at home. First and foremost, the setup was a breeze. To use the Aqara Smart Pet Feeder C1, you will need the Aqara Zigbee 3.0 Hub, which seamlessly connects the feeder to your smart home ecosystem. Once set up, it can be controlled and monitored through the Aqara app on your smartphone. The automatic feeding feature is a godsend, especially on busy days or when I'm away from home. I can customize feeding schedules, portion sizes, and even record personalized voice messages to call my pet over at mealtime. The dispenser works smoothly and reliably, ensuring my pet is fed on time, every time. The build quality of the feeder is impressive, and it's designed with pet safety in mind. The food storage container is airtight, keeping the food fresh and preventing spoilage. Plus, the feeder is sturdy and difficult for curious pets to tamper with. One of the standout features is the integrated camera. It allows me to keep an eye on my pet during mealtime, ensuring they are eating well and are in good health. The ability to monitor my pet remotely provides invaluable peace of mind. The Aqara Smart Pet Feeder C1 is not just about convenience; it's also about enriching your pet's life. With its interactive features, it engages and entertains your pet, making mealtime an enjoyable experience. In conclusion, the Aqara Smart Pet Feeder C1 is a must-have for pet owners who want to ensure their pets are well-fed, happy, and healthy, even when they can't be there in person. It's reliable, convenient, and adds an extra layer of care to your pet's life. Five stars without a doubt!

    Works well, needs power adapter

Works well, and integrates easily with home assistant. It’s zigbee so doesn’t actually need the Aqara hub specifically (I’m not using one myself), but Aqara devices in general can be a bit picky so do you homework. i wanted to set up an automation to dispense a small amount of food when someone is at the door to help train my dog not to bark and/or jump at the door, and some other stuff to help working on his separation anxiety, and it’s been 100% reliable so far. Some other notes since other reviews seem to be confused on what this is. By a “smart feeder”, it’s a feeder that works with home automation. That’s it. It’s not really smart in any other way. It doesn’t have extra sensors or anything. It just dispenses food. Also, thankfully I didn’t need it, but the “child lock” seems basically useless since it doesn’t keep you from removing the lid. Minus 1-star for no power adapter. I’m sure they’d feed me some line about the environment and “most people already have one”, but it obviously needs its own as it’s a 24/7 device. Nobody is going to unplug their pet feeder every time they need to charge their phone or whatever, so stop being cheap and include the entire product you are claiming to sell, especially at this price point. Edit: Took a couple months of use, but my dog did eventually figure out how to get the lid off of this. The bowl section is removable, so I put it high up on a bookshelf and now it just drops the food off the edge onto the floor. That said, I’m just using it for some treats here and there. If I wanted to dispense his actual meals and continue to use the bowl, I’d probably have to build some housing to go around it, which would be a nontrivial amount of work.

    So good, I bought two

I bought the first Aqara C1 feeder specifically because it is a Zigbee device and I wanted to automate the feeding schedule with Home Assistant. This feeder works beautifully with home assistant and I created a script in just a few minutes that feeds a specific portion of food, several times a day. If you don't care about automation and Home Assistant integration, you can find cheaper options that are just as good. After getting our second cat, I decided we needed another feeder in another part of the house, so I bought a second one. Just like the first, it was a breeze to pair and automate. I love these and my cats do too!

Great local-only feeder through Zigbee2MQTT + Home Assistant once you get past the initial jankiness

June 2023 edit: There's now been a Zigbee2MQTT update that fixes most of the issues I noted below. The clock is now in my local time and the default button to feed in Home Assistant works (little awkwardly, using a dropdown instead of a button but that's fine). Also the schedule shows in the settings normally! I updated to five stars. There are three ways you can set this thing up 1. Aqara Hub + Aqara app to manage feeding schedules. Easiest out of the box solution. This is what the instructions say and what it pretends to only support. Depends on the cloud which is a non-starter for me 2. ZHA with a Zigbee dongle in Home Assistant, managing feeding schedules through normal HA automations. This is what most reviewers seem to be opting for. This is not my method because 1) I have opted for Zigbee2MQTT over ZHA and MOST IMPORTANTLY 2) This method means the feeding is directly dependent on Home Assistant being available. This is what I normally do for other devices but I really don't like the idea of my cat being hungry because my server is down or the automation bugged out. Other reviews have stated that it's not possible at this time to publish the schedule to the feeder through ZHA and have it work on its own. Hopefully there's an update in the future to fix that. 3. Zigbee2MQTT with a Zigbee dongle linked to Home Assistant. This is my method, and I chose it because I already use Z2M, but most importantly because as stated in option 2, the feeding schedule will continue working if my HA is down because the schedule is a state that is saved to the feeder itself. Z2M supports publishing a new schedule to it unlike ZHA (at the time of this review). My review is based on this method since I know many others use it too. For the janky stuff: * [Fixed in June 2023] The internal clock is in UTC. You need to account for this when creating the schedule. It seems that using the Aqara Hub method lets you change the time zone, but at this time Z2M does not. No review states this so I only found out after thinking the schedule wasn't working but my cat had actually already eaten :) this isn't a huge deal except that the "portions per day" and "weight per day" sensors reset at midnight, which for me in EST is actually 8pm. Minor annoyance as it means those stats are mostly useless if I want to graph them in Home Assistant * [Fixed in June 2023] In Z2M, the manual "feed: START" button is a button, but in HA it's a "selector" drop down with only "START" as a default option, so it doesn't do anything. I can't access Z2M from outside my house at this time without a VPN so out of the box I can't start a manual feeding from HA. I had to instead make a script in HA which sends the {"feed": "START"} payload to MQTT, and then in a dashboard I made a button to activate that script. Now it works! (screenshots attached) * Because HA is just reading the "schedule" from MQTT, it just shows up as one big JSON blurb instead of a concise schedule * [Fixed in June 2023] The schedule in Z2M shows as multiple blank feedings until you look at the state which actually describes them. You have to use the state to know which blank feeding is which.

    Not dependable - Fail

I was excited for this to fit in with my Aqara ZigBee hub. It was a total let down. Not only is the lid not ergonomical but the lid opens easily. I could somehow deal with all that even with arthritis. What I can’t deal with is it forgetting all about my cats meal plan after it was set and working. That’s just not right. I have two other units from another brand. One works very reliably but the other would forget its schedule too. I’m a tech savvy engineer too so it’s just ashamed you can’t trust these devices when your loved one’s life depends on it. No bueno. Aqara you should be ashamed of yourself. Poor kitty went hungry.

Doesn’t tell you when it’s out of food

This thing is like the most three star thing ever. Pros: - Easy set up - Very adjustable between feeding times and portions - It does work well - Top clamps shut well - It does look nice - My cat seems to legit like the thing - Asking Alexa to feed Frankie is kind of fun Cons: - Doesn’t tell you when it’s out of food, which I mean… kind of a key feature? - Doesn’t recognize daylight savings time - Doesn’t come with a *bleeping* plug/dongle, which I realize is a new thing these days, but the price of this thing… (it just comes with a USB cord) - Alexa doesn’t REALLY know what it is. You can only set up the feeding action as an if/then, but nothing beyond that.

A Smart Solution for Every Cat Owner

I recently purchased this innovative cat feeder, and it has transformed the way I care for my feline friends. Connecting it to Home Assistant via zigbee was a breeze, and it's made mealtime so much more convenient. Ease of Use: The setup was quick and straightforward. I had it connected to my home assistant in no time, allowing me to schedule feeding times and monitor food levels right from my device. Design and Quality: Sleek and modern, this cat feeder fits right into my home's decor. Its quality construction assures me that it will last for a long time, providing dependable service. Functionality: What I appreciate most is the feeder's ability to provide consistent meals for my cats, even when I'm away from home. The app's reminders and the option to adjust portions on-the-go give me peace of mind.

Way to much money for what you get.

I was excited about this product and purchased two right off the bat but for the price it has less features than other feeders have that cost half as much sometimes. I wanted to move this into HA but could only get it in with lots of messing around with scripts. Some feeders cost 49 bucks and have a camera or can tell when the food is almost empty. I wish it came with more options and was easier to integrate into my smart home. I will be returning both and trying something different. Even if you don't need all the bells and whistles that I am asking for there are still cheaper and better options out there than this, for 100 bucks it should come with more. I thought I would be able to record from the app and upload it to the feeder nope have to push a button on the feeder to do that. Even after you do that you can not trigger the greeting/call from the app or with automation. You can only do it by pushing the button on the feeder. If you are looking for something you can integrate into your Smart home this is not it. If you are looking for something to just feed your pets automatically, it can do that but so can a dozen of other feeds at half the cost.

Works out of the box with Home Assistant with one weird caveat.

Like most of Aqaras items this feeder works directly with Home Assistant without Aqaras own hub using ZHA and any Zigbee USB dongle. If you have a kitchen scale you will want to do a sort of "calibration" before adding automations to see how many grams it actually dispenses with 1 "portion" then how many of these "portions" equal one serving you would usually give your pet for one meal. You can then make one "feed button press" dipsnese anywhere from 1-10 of these "portions" in one trigger. If you feed your pet more than what 10 dispenses you can easily do a repeat action in the Home Assistant automation to dispense more, you can also change how many "portions" it dispenses inside an automation so if you needed to dispense something like 15, you could do one action to "press feed button" and dispense 10 "portions" then a action to change the amount to 5 then another action to "press feed button" and dispense 10. The only weird thing is currently the feeder seems to have some built in schedule too that you can't override in HA, I can tell it's something built in because 3 times a day at specific times it dispenses 1 "portion" no matter what I set inside of HA. The best I can tell is this is the schedule you override if you use the aqara app, but since I'm using a different zigbee hub and adding directly to HA there's no way to remove this. It's not really that big of a deal since 1 "portion" is barely anything, I just adjusted how much food gets dispenses with the main feeding automations and the pets get a random snack during the day with the end results being more or less the same amount of food per day, just weird you can't do anything about it without aqaras app.
