    Not for large feline's

I purchased this for the two cats that I currently have because I was tired of scooping poop. It’s a great unit and quite frankly the only issue I have is it says it’s made for cats up to 25 pounds however that is not quite the case. I have a 22 pound male black tuxedo and every time he goes to use it when he gets out the machine will not cycle and the lights on the front go crazy. I can reset it by hand and then manually cycle it but it’s a pain to do that every time he uses it. On the other hand, my other cat, which is a domestic tabby only weighs 14 pounds. She’s a little more petite although she rules the house and the machine works perfectly. I’ve had this unit for nine months, I wanted to wait to do a review to see if the troubleshooting assistance I received would work. I’ve had this problem ever since I first purchased it. I was hoping it was a glitch, but apparently not. My only advice would be if you have a cat 20+ pounds I would not recommend this product.

    Automatic Cat Litter Box

We would go on trips for multiple days , but we needed to do something about our cat. He was fine on his own in a regular litter box and food container. But, when we would be gone for up to a week, we had to board the cat. And that got expensive. So, we ordered this automatic litter box and WOW were we happy with the results. It is connected to WiFi using the Whisker App. When our cat , and he is a big boy, walks into the opening the sensor lets us know he has entered. After he finishes using the box with litter inside and walks out, the sensor notices he is out and after minute or so it starts to do its job. The unit starts to rotates it moves the litter to one side to let the litter drop to a spot below. Then it rotates back as it drops the left over poop/pee to a bin on the bottom where bag is waiting. Then the unit rotates back and drops the litter back into the unit. Then the unit send you a message to the app that the process is complete. Also, on the app, you can see what percentage of the box is full. We have been able to leave our cat, with an automatic feeder and lots of water, for periods of up to a week at a time . I FULLY recommend it for anyone who does not want to empty a litter box every day or multiple times / day. Also there is NO order from the unit. It's very worth the money.

    An Honest Assessment...

So, we had our cats for about 2 years prior to purchasing our Litter-Robot 3. I can't say that we hated having standard litter boxes, but my wife and I were very conscious about the odors eminating from them. When we moved back to the States from my posting overseas, we decided to splurge on the Litter-Robot and I can share that we unequivocally recommend this product. The goods: 1) Ease of set-up: Pretty darn easy right out of the box. Maybe takes ten minutes for the Litter-Robot to be ready for your cat(s). 2) Ease of use: Load it up and go. Wait for the app to tell you it's time to empty. 3) Ease of cleaning: So, yes, you will not be scooping, but that does not mean there's no cleaning involved. However, a hard plastic bristle dish brush will do most of the work. I tend to wipe down the inside with a wet paper towel or rag every 2-3 weeks. 4) Easy to empty: So, yeah, open the drawer, pull out the bag, tie it off and throw it away. Simple, but there will usually be residual litter to clean up in the waste drawer. 5) Less stray litter: There will be residual kitty litter that shows up outside the box (even with the retainer built into the lip of the box). However, you definitely cut down on the spillage compared to normal boxes (even covered or elevated boxes). 6) Low cat transition time: Our cats used the new box within 10 minutes. This might not be your experience and I get that. The others: 1) Pricey: Yeah! 2) There's still a smell (although not as much as a normal box): In the end, this is a toilet, so I get it. This is easily overcome with a small/cheap air purifier or some litter box deodorizer. 3) Proprietary waste bags: Because of the unique size of the waste drawer, you need a relatively large bag to line the tray. The proprietary bags are a little pricey, but, of course, work well. Probably could avoid using them by investing in some relatively cheap 10 gallon, scented trash bags. 4) Must use clumping litter: No sustainable or environmentally friendly litters for you (of course, you're also buying a big piece of mechanical plastic, so there's that). 5) Footprint is relatively large: Check the dimensions because this thing is big and can dominate a small room. 6) Might be a daily empty with three or more cats. We have two cats and empty about every other day, so for three or more cats you could be using quite a few waste bags, on a weekly basis. Hope this is helpful for some of you! Let me know if you have any questions.

    Not Worth It

I had high hopes for our Litter Robot. At $700 I expect a machine to work and be high quality. Unfortunately my experience was not that. To start off with I have 3 cats. I work hard to keep an odor free and clean house and especially where the litter boxes are. I also have a dog who eats litter box treasures and so have to scoop multiple times a day. I got this litter robot almost a year ago and had high hopes. Less scooping, cleaner litter, less tracking, less stink. Unfortunately it went downhill after the first use. For $700 the plastic quality and parts are less than stellar. The whole point of having a machine like this is less work, not more. I found that it was necessary to baby this machine daily because it would have trouble calibrating even after all steps were taken to make sure it was balanced and clean. This would make it turn to half way and get stuck so my 3 cats had no where else to use the bathroom. Either the litter was too heavy, too light, or some other unexpected issue. Over time the inner lining gets atrociously disgusting and I don’t understand the thinking of using such a material that seems to just make litter, pee, and #2 cling to it and never want to come off. Urine odors cling to every inch of this machine too, even with good upkeep. I tried multiple different kinds of clay litter and every single one had some kind of issue with the machine. Know that even “no dust” or low dust litter will still create dust because of the turning and sifting of the machine. It will coat your floors, walls, and machine in a fine powder dust. So if you have electronics near your robot be aware that you’ll be in need cleaning them more often. I think the technical problems we continued to have were what made us give up on it. There is just no excuse for such an expensive product to have such continual failure. We had to buy an additional litter box because of the weekly failure we’ve had since the beginning. If I’m scooping again anyway, I might as transition back to the tried and true classic box. All in all this machine might work well for a one cat home and for the lucky person who gets a unit that somehow works 98% of the time instead of 50%. If you are a multiple cat home, my advice is to spend the money on large, stainless steel litter pans and try some of the new soy pellet litter or feline pine (if your cats will use it). Maybe someday they will make an automatic litter box that actually works, until then I’m not wasting my time and energy on this one.

    Chore SAVER!

Highly recommend this to anyone who wants to make sure their cat/s have a clean place to go no matter how busy you become. Highly recommended using with Pretty Litter!!! Let’s get the CONs out of the way furst :-P Drawer should be deeper and waste hole should be longer so it distributes waste into drawer more evenly instead of a tall pile in the middle. So you just have to occasionally open and shake drawer to get maximum usage of waste drawer space. Waste bags are enormous, but work well- just seems like a waste of plastic. App sucks! Unit worked wonderfully fine for the first month before we connected to the app. Thought we’d try setting nighttime schedules so it didn’t run and have alerts, but after app set up the sleep time would change on its own and not go off and generally wouldn’t connect. This led to other issues where it did t empty enough. So we severed the app connection and now the unit runs beautifully again. We have gotten used to sleeping through night cycles. Wish nightlight had adjustable brightness levels. Wish battery back up came with the stair and of bundle. 5th star would be there if these things were fixed, especially for the price. PURrrrs: Works very well with Pretty Litter specifically. Tried various clay clumping and other crystal litters, but they all just made a mess. Pretty litter not only cuts down on drawer emptying (1-2 weeks vs every 2-3 days with clay), but it also keeps away smells better and cuts down on how often the barrel needs to be hose out. Pretty easy to hose out and clean Recommend keeping a litter shovel handy to help loosen stuck waste that happens every now and then. Overall very satisfied we bought this and would recommend to anyone! It’s expensive, but we find it sooo worth it in the long run.

    AMAZING

great purchase. I have only one cat, which I’ve recently gotten an allergy to. And also an allergy to the cat litter. So this came in handy for litter changes etc, only limiting my exposure to kitty & her litter. Follow directions, noise isn’t too loud, installation was easy. Great quality item. My cat is pretty fat, she’s very short and about 15 pounds and she fits perfect with extra room inside.

Genius level idea - horrible execution

TLDR was I received it on November 27, 2022 and it had crapped out by January 2023. If you want the details keep reading. In January I started getting "Over torque fault" error messages which resulted in blinking yellow and red lights and sometimes left the globe in the wrong position. The Litter Robot 3 comes with no actual instruction book so I had no means of figuring out what the light codes meant. (I still don't.) I began searching online and found no one with my exact problems, but I found many people with many other problems usually related to the sensors. The best I could find was that maybe my issue was related to the weight of the litter. I stopped adding litter and even when it was down to almost no litter the faults continued so I switched to "light weight" litter and even with that the faults continued. During this period I took it apart several times to clean it, check for obstructions, and even tried wiping down the track with furniture polish per the internet. None of this worked. Last week the light changed to solid blue and solid yellow and at that point I contacted Whisker. I emailed them and included everything that I put above and the response was this: _________________________________________________________________________________________ Hi Ed Based on your comment that the unit only cycles at certain times, or the unit has a blue and yellow indicator light lit, your unit is in 8-hour sleep mode. During the 8-hour sleep mode, your unit will not cycle. The unit will show the blue and yellow LED during the sleep mode. Customer Service Code: 3034 To reset or quit sleep mode, press and hold the Cycle button until the yellow LED flashes on then off. ___________________________________________________________________________________________ So essentially, they didn't even read the entire issue, just the last line. I replied to that effect and they apologized and immediately offered to send me a new base and a new power supply. According to Whisker (or at least the first person I had contact with) you shouldn't fill the litter robot to the fill line he recommended never filling it to within a half inch of the fill line. My issue is this: I just wanted some reassurance that this isn't a widespread issue and that my litter robot was just a fluke. The idea that we went directly to complete replacement without even trying to trouble shoot makes me feel like this isn't a fluke and gives me the idea that I am at least fairly likely to get another bad copy. Also, if the tolerances on this machine are so narrow that filling it once to the line (when I got it) and refilling it maybe 3 times in the month I used it can ruin the whole machine then how can I seriously expect a replacement to actually last any significant period of time? And how can they ship these things with a "fill line" and no instructions and expect you to know that if you actually use that fill line you'll destroy your machine?? In the end I was told that I had a 90 day window for a refund. I replied that I would be willing to give the replacement a try, but I want my 90 day window started over. I feel this a perfectly reasonable request given the circumstances however this is the response I got today for that: ____________________________________________________________________________________ Hello Ed, Thank you for your reply. Before we send any replacement parts, I checked into your request for the additional 90 days. Unfortunately, the most we can extend it is 30 days from February 25, 2023, giving you until March 27, 2023, to return for a refund if you so wish to do. This will give you plenty of time to decide if you wish to keep the unit or return it for a refund. If you move forward with the replacement, we recommend retaining the box, just in case, as we cannot ship boxes out. Please let me know if you wish to proceed with the replacement base and power supply. If so, I will place a rush on that replacement order so that it will ship from our warehouse within 72 business hours. Kind regards, ___________________________________________________________________________________________ Actually, to verify, they don't "recommend" anything... the litter robot 3 came with basically no documentation. In requesting the 90 day extension I was just looking to see if they felt that this is a fluke thing and the 90 days is no big deal because the problem will have been solved. What this tells me is that they know the product has issues and they won't stand behind it. I had told them that I no longer have the box and they seem to think that this now becomes my problem. I replied that I will be going for the refund. Nothing they have done gives me any confidence that they can (or want to) fix the issue. The only idea I can think of is that to send it back I'm going to have to cut the thing up to fit it into a decent sized box. In summary as I put in the title this is a genius level idea. When it works - it's amazing. But the company that makes it seems to be doubling down on bad ideas as well. If you are going to charge that much include some instructions! If the "fill line" is actually an "over fill line" then include something that warns your customers. If this is actually a "small business" as Amazon states then it is not that they "can't" give me that 90 day extension it is that they "won't" give me that extension. (30 days isn't enough, the first one made it 30 days.) I haven't heard back from Whisker on how I am supposed to return this thing or if they seriously expect me to pay for the shipping, but I'll update as this progresses. Update 2/8/23: I got a message from Whisker telling me that they will send me a return form and that it is going to cost me $60 out of my refund. This message came through Amazon and I have no means of replying to it. I emailed back the other person I had been communicating with and told them about the $60 and asked about how I am supposed to return this. I had an Amazon return before where I was able to drop off an item with the return authorization and they packaged it up and took care of it for me. Here was the reply I received on 2/7/23: _________________________________________________________________________________________ Hello Ed, Thank you for your reply. I do apologize for the inconvenience that this has caused you. I have spoken with one of our Amazon team members, and they will reach out to you soon. Please be sure to respond to them. Kind regards, __________________________________________________________________________________________ She certainly wants me to stop communicating with her and I assure you the feeling is mutual. No answers. "Please be sure to respond to them." You can't. They know this. So I replied again and we're now at the point that if I email them I get no response until the next day. I again asked about the drop off point and about the $60. I let them know that I want this resolved before I do this. I don't want to ship that back and two weeks later find out that they stole $60 from me out of my refund. (I strongly suspect that somehow/someway I'm not getting all of my money back.) So today I get this response: ____________________________________________________________________________________________ Hello Ed, Please see the Amazon reply from Ms. *****. She confirmed that a label was sent to you via Amazon messages and that the shipping fee was being waived. The label is through FedEx. For further information regarding your return, please send those to the Amazon message corresponding with you. They will be able to provide more information than I can as they handle all Amazon orders and returns. Take care, and have a wonderful rest of your day! ____________________________________________________________________________________________ I put ***** in place of her name. I've intentionally left all the names except mine out of this. In any case I copy/pasted the message I had from Amazon with the name "Whisker" on it. I had no idea who was sending it to me and it clearly stated I was going to be charged $60. There was no answer to my question about the drop point. I told the other lady that it said I would be charged and it answered none of my questions and yet again that I can't reply. A couple hours later I got another Amazon message: __________________________________________________________________________________________ Hello Ed, "Previous Lady" has been working with you and we need you to go through the return process here in Amazon as this is where you ordered from. We are waiving the return fee but you do need to secure a box on your own as we do not provide packing materials. We do not provide any shipping supplies or packaging services. For supplies, we recommend trying a shipping goods store (U-Haul or Rental facilities), general store (Home Depot, Lowe's, etc), or local grocery store. Most big box-type stores have large shipping boxes that cost under $10. You will also want to use other mailing supplies such as bubble wrap to ensure a safe ride here. Original packing is recommended; however, all we ask is that it is boxed securely to allow a safe ride to our facility. If using the original packaging, please remove the old shipping label. This will prevent the package from being re-delivered to you by mistake. **Shipping Box Dimensions** Litter-Robot 3 box weighs 32 pounds and its dimensions are 32" x 24" x 24". You can use boxes that are slightly larger (an inch or two). It does not have to be that exact size. U-Haul and Rental facilities will usually sell boxes of this size. Home Depot sells wardrobe boxes that are this size as well. You can view it here . ___________________________________________________________________________________________ So once again I bought their product in good faith and it ends up on me to figure out how to get it back. I am going to incur expense in order to return their faulty product. They also included in their instructions that I have to clean it and if they are not satisfied with how well I clean it that they plan to steal $75 out of my return. I will take pictures before I box it up and I will keep track of my expenses and invoice them for it. If you buy a litter robot this is what you can look forward to dealing with. Keep in mind that if they had just agreed to the 90 days on the new parts we wouldn't be going through this. Also, theoretically, I could order a new one right now. When it comes in I could use the box/packing to send the old one back and I'd have my 90 days. I won't do that. This thing was a phenomenal idea and for the 40ish days that it worked I loved it. Evidently 3 generations in they've only managed a little over a month of doing the job it is supposedly designed to do. Maybe all the issues are ironed out in the LR4... maybe not. They'll never get another penny of my money. I'm off to buy a litter box and I'll go back to scooping it. Know what else?? I'm extremely confident that 40 days from now that litter box will still be functioning as it is designed to. As for Whisker - They have had 139 Better Business Bureau complaints in the last 3 years and 119 of those were in the last 12 months. It doesn't sound like they have fixed anything. I'll update when something new happens. Update: Shipped back 2/21/23. I was not charged for shipping by fedex. I included an invoice for the $56.12 that the box/packing materials/tape cost me along with a copy of the receipt for those materials. Now I get to wait to see how much they short change me and what (if any) excuse they give for doing it. Sadly, they have given no indication of integrity. I'll be highly shocked if they do the right thing and make me whole. I will update when something new happens again. 03/12/23 - This is the third time I've tried to update after shipping the LR3 back and Amazon hasn't put up the other two. Just checking to see if I'm being completely censored or just not allowed to criticize Whisker any more. 03/17/23 - Almost 3 weeks have gone by since Whisker received the package with my LR3. I have had no communication from them and have not received a refund of any sort. Customer service at it's finest. This is a perfect example of what you can expect if you try to deal with this company. 3/22/23 (Final update - probably) - Ok, today... 23 days after Whisker received my package I had enough waiting and I contacted them again. I restated that I had sent them back the LR3 on 2/22 and that they had received it on 2/27 and now over 3 weeks later I had received NO communication from them and NO refund. I further stated that if I did not receive my refund that I would sue and that I don't care if I spend more than what I'll get I will not allow them to steal that money from me. I sent that message at 3:40PM. Amazingly.... 8 minutes later I got a reply: ______________________________________________________________________________________________ Hi there, We do apologize for the delay and very much appreciate your patience. We have received your unit and processed a refund. You can expect to see the money refunded to your account within 5-7 business days. Please let us know if you have any additional questions. Best regards, Whisker _____________________________________________________________________________________________ I am stunned with disbelief.... I guess all I had to do was beg a little. They simply were not capable of just doing what was right, honoring their own "guarantee", or simply trying to make right an obvious wrong. No, they couldn't. I had to ask for it. Roughly two hours after that I received an email from Amazon telling me that my refund had been processed and will be available in a couple days. I honestly have no doubts in Amazon. So at this point I do believe that I will get back the original $749.68 that I spent to buy it in the first place. There was no mention of the $56.12 that the box/packing materials cost me to send their trash back to them. So, in addition to the frustration of the last few months I'm also $56.12 poorer for having been stupid enough to purchase their product. A little additional news: If you check out Whisker's Better Business Bureau listing it is now listed as "being updated" and you can't see any of the complaints or numbers that were there before. The last time I looked a few weeks ago they had 139 complaints in the last 3 years and 119 of them were in the last 12 months as I mentioned earlier in the review. In summary - the one consistent factor for this company/product is crap. It's a product that is supposed to deal with crap. It works like crap. It's a crap product made by a crap company. Said company has crap tech support and crap customer service. I can't suggest it, you're better off just dealing with your cat's crap yourself. Oh, also.... my new litter box ($14.95) is still working perfectly.... -Ed

    Clean, neat and fresh

Our two cats seem to love this thing. They're a little pricey but it works well, is easy to maintain and does exactly what it said it would. We're glad we bought it.

    Extremely surprised.

Okay, when I finally committed to buying the Litter Robot 3, I checked all the reviews and even had a friend recommend this product. It’s a lot of money to spend to handle cat “stuff”. A real lot of money. Here’s the thing, it actually works. It makes a miserable job less time consuming and does a great job handling the odors. I found that the bags that Whiskers provide seem a bit wasteful but there are other bags on Amazon that work perfectly. Just make sure that the device doesn’t end up touching any walls or cabinets (etc). That throws off the sensing circuits. I am very please with how this works and would suggest it for anyone that wants to scoop litter boxes less. Just change the bag and you’re golden. An occasional thorough cleaning is suggested but you would have to do that with any litter box. The most important part, the cats really like it. No “accidents” since I’ve started using the Litter Robot 3.

    When it works, it's great

No Moore scooping sounds great, and it is when its working right. Not sure if I just got a lemon, but it will often start a cycle and then stop, go back to the home position and all the lights started flashing. I'm using their brand litter and only fill it to the line. At one point I saw a video about needing to tear it apart and do a deep clean (they don't mention that in the comercials). So I tried that. Didn't help, still randomly stops and won't do anything till I turn it off and back on again. You are supposed to power it off when you clean the drawer. When you power it on again, it will run through a clean cycle, then it's supposed to reset the meter showing how full it is. That has not happened since day one. Every time I clean the draw, I have to use the app to reset the gauge. At one point it stopped responding to the app, and I had to unplug the unit and plug it back in to reset the wifi/Bluetooth. All that being said, it has saved me a lot of scooping, but the glitches are frustrating. Also, it would have been nice to know about the periodic maintenance prior to buying. I guess I should have done more research.
