I was impressed with the build quality of the unit. This is like the "Valentine one radar detector" of fish feeders, almost tank like and feels like it will last forever as well as adjustable to allow for a various size of pellets, flakes, and other fish food for both fresh and salt water fish. I feel I could leave for a ski trip for the season and come back months later and my fish will not starve because this hold enough food to last as long as I need especially with expansion options up to 1.5 gallons( probably for KOI ponds) This plugs into the wall and does not use batteries which makes it more reliable, its controlled with a timer switch however you set mechanically on the machine how long you want it on during a power cycle. So if you decide on 6 seconds on, even if the power is on for hours, it will only run for 6 seconds until your timer shuts off for at least 2 minutes then on again. There are 2 major adjustments on the feeder. The first one is one that adjust how long the feeder turns on for during each power cycle(power cycles are controlled by a electric timer) and the second adjust controls how wide the internal door opens. The door can be adjusted for allow for flakes, pellets, wafers, KOI food, cat food or even dog food if need be. I feel that I can control how many flakes are released a lot better than with any other feeder however if you have more flakes in the machine then you need less time to run than if you have few flakes in the machine. I would not be surprised if Seaworld, major aquariums or petstores used something like this for their tank since its so bulletproof. I have used several different brands and this one is by far the best.

I bought this item because I was going on vacation and wanted to spare my relatives the bother of feeding my fish. I liked the fact that this feeder has a large hopper which will allow me to feed the fish for the extended period I am away. Given its size and the number of feedings I have programmed, I expect I could be gone a month and not run out of food. (I have a 39 gal. tank with about a dozen fish.) In any case I got it early and set it up on my tank to make sure it would work properly and therefore tried it out for about 3-4 weeks before I went on vacation. It seems to work as advertized. The only problem I encountered was that the hopper extending into the tank tended to fog up with the tank hood completely closed. When it fogged up, the food got stuck to the hopper and as time went by it totally clogged up. I solved the problem by propping the tank hood open about 3/4 of an inch, which allows the vapor to escape the tank and so now it does not fog up. Again testing it for about 2 weeks in this mode it seemed to work fine and the food did not stick to the hopper. I am now on vacation and only time will tell if the fish feeder did its job. Hopefully I'll return to well fed and thriving fish.
- Phil2022-02-10Most pellet sized food or flakes flows right through
There is a quarter inch gap between the roller and the food shoot - all food I've tried so far just drains into my fish tank with no control on volume, the device is acting like an expensive funnel.. given the good reviews, I e contacted the seller to see if my unit is missing something or I am misinterpreted what's suppose to happen, and will update based on response, however currently I would not recommend using this product for fish tank as any pellet smaller then a quarter inch will drain out. --- updated to five stars, company contacted me and helped me fix the issue.. great customer service.

This has been working great for me! It took some calibration to get it to dispense the correct amount of food but one you have that it's great! I just plugged it into a digital timer and filled it with food and went on vacation for 2 weeks. I like having the digital timer because I have one that keeps its settings and time even if it's unplugged. I like it like that because I know if I lose power while I'm gone for a little while then my fish might miss a feeding but that's about it. I suppose if you were really concerned about it then you could plug this into a battery backup power supply. When I came back my cichlids were happy and there was plenty of food left so I probably could have been easily gone a month and they would have been fine! I love that this feeder is made in the USA and it feels good to be supporting American jobs buying this! I haven't had to call for support but they seem like good people to deal with from watching the video on YouTube. I had a feeder from a pet store before this which didn't hold nearly as much food!

I was using this for my tank when I went on vacation. I pre tested beforehand to make sure it dispensed out food 2x a day. Timer was set while on vacation, came home to surviving fish, this has met my expectations.
- Joe McGinty2014-02-10Good feeder, works as advertised, no surprises
It does a nice job. I'm controlling it from an APEX and feed the fish twice a day and it works great. All you need to do is add power and it'll drop the amount you set it up for then turn off power till the next feeding cycle.
- ROHIT2019-08-22Finally found a dependable auto feeder for my aquarium
I had to go for 2 months long vacation outside country and none of the auto feeders for aquarium I came across were dependable. I could find Automation for lights, water filteration and heating but not for feeding which can support more than 2 weeks. Finally came across this product. I must say this is value for money product. Is strong enough and well designed. Good thought process had gone into making this product. I returned home after 50 days and happy to see all fishes in my aquarium live and healthy.

I used this product to feed a 10 pound cat dry food morsels. I used the feeder for exactly 1 year (before the cat died). My cat was an obsessive eater. She would make our lives miserable by begging, rather attacking us for food; waking us up 4 hours before breakfast and purposefully ruining anything we were doing 2 hours or more before dinnertime. We had tried two other automatic feeders during the previous 10 years and she had broken into the two other automatic cat food dishes in no time (one she broke into within minutes). She did not thwart this feeder, she really only tried twice to break into it but gave up fairly quickly and never tried again. I had purchased the chute, which is an accessory, which may or may not have been needed to thwart her attempts. The feeder, itself is much smaller than the pictures reveal, which is a good thing. I had the one hopper (it comes with) and purchased one additional "hopper extension." So, my feeder had a total of two square plastic "hopper" pieces. With the hopper and one hopper extension, I only had to fill the feeder up once a week, which was an unexpected liberating bonus. It was incredibly nice not to worry about twice-a-day feedings or even filling up the feeder daily (unless the power went out). Generally, a problem with any hopper style feeder is you can only put one type of food in the machine, so they are eating only one flavor/brand all week. (We tried layering foods, but each food was different in size, so that did not work with this feeder.) And a specific problem with this feeder, for cat food, was it took about 10 minutes to set the hopper each time the morsel shape of the food changed (to unplug it from the timer, move it away from the cat, and actually set, test, reset, and retest the amount dropped). And to set the feeder, it required a high level of precision, since one tiny movement of the setting, altered the amount of food it would drop dramatically. Then, once I set the feeder with the precision of a watch maker, the amount of food dropped each feeding was inconsistent. I was required to set with precision, but the feeder dropped within a range of amounts. Generally, by the end of the week, I liked to think each feeding averaged out to the correct amount (of a 1/2 cup per day). I also found that when the hopper was full/near full or it had 20% or less left in the hopper, it dropped out a lot more than it was set to drop. When it was only 20% full, the feeder ran the risk of dropping every morsel of food remaining in the hopper. I just learned to keep it 20% or more full. When it was full or near full, the weight of the food in the two-piece high hopper seemed to push a greater amount of food out (than it was set to drop). The feeder did work, in that the cat could not get into it, it fed her sufficiently, and within a week of owning the feeder, the cat learned the feeder fed her and not us, so she quit waking us up daily at 4AM for 8AM breakfast or aggressively begging for food and annoying us 2 hours before dinner daily. The feeder did separate us from the food in the cats' mind, which made our lives unbelievably better. The last year we had the feeder with her, our lives improved tremendously. Glad we bought it.
- N. Williams2019-01-0910 years and still going strong - great purchase! - used to feed a cat
I love it when manufacturers have a good design and don't keep reinventing it every couple years. We bought ours about 10 years ago for feeding our small cat and it looks just like what is being sold today except that ours didn't come with a timer. Our cat is no longer with us but this feeder is still going strong (and about to get posted to our local craigslist because we no longer have a cat or any fish). It was very reliable and I think we could get up to about a week's amount of food in the hopper. It was helpful when she got older and started gorging and barfing to spread her food out to more numerous smaller portions. At the time we bought this there was no cat-specific model with bowl like there is now and this had no mounting stand, but we built our own and just placed the cat's bowl beneath the outlet chute. I suppose the $150-ish model with cat bowl has a bigger hopper, but I don't think I'd want to leave the cat more than 5 or 6 days unsupervised and this one was big enough for our needs. Ten years ago, I thought the price was pretty high, but bought it anyway because of the good reviews back then (and I see it still gets good reviews). Never regretted this purchase. Other than being a bit finicky to adjust the volume of food to dispense, once adjusted it needed no attention.
