Scam alert - Over temp warning - Warranty voids

First off this concept is great. The idea of wireless cooking thermometers and an app to work with it….next level. The app works great. The probes not so much. Bought three of them. Two as a set and a third a few weeks later from Meater directly. Also bought the cutting board and their numbering clips. So I’ve spend $500 with them. I’ve used the probes many times with great results. Sometimes it gives you connection problems but it resolves itself as you get closer. Anyway I walked away from the grill to do something nobody can do for me and received an over temp warning. Rushed back to the grill and didn’t find anything unusual. Probes were still working. A few weeks later after I cooked with them and pulled the probe out of one of my prime Tomahawk steaks the probe came apart at the rear black section. Contacted customer service and here is what they said…. “Hello Anthony, Overheating can damage the probe, which is what happens in most cases, and after having a look at your cooks and the number of times the probe has been exposed to over temps, I'm pretty certain. You mentioned ''the black part pulled away from the probe body'', which would happen when the glue becomes weak from overheating. We inform our customers of the care tips that should be taken when using the probe, for maximum effective use of the probe and a longer shelf life. However, if this is not followed the warranty becomes void, and we are unable to offer free replacement for accidental damage, like any other company you may know.” In other words….go F yourself. Oh the representative did over me 10% off a new probe. How helpful! 🤦🏼‍♂️ I’m done with there products and will never buy another thing from the company. Spent hundreds of dollars with them already too. Imagine a wireless probe designed to be in a covered grill for hours and its held together with glue that can’t handle high temperature. Look elsewhere!

Great For Any Level of Cooking Skil

I grill and smoke a lot. The pellet grill I use comes with 4 wired probes for monitoring my cook. I cook several meats for my family at the beginning of the week. So sometimes the 4 meat probes I use with the smoker are not enough. I love the true wireless nature of these thermoters. I have also used these thermometers in the oven as well as in a fryer, no problem. They really work. The alarm on the app which communicates with the unit is awesome. I am a gadget guy, so these are right up my alley. They are little pricey, but I think they are worth it. After buying 2 individual Meater+ probes, I bought the block. Worth the buy!

What do you get that special person who has it all...

My other half is a huge foodie and loves to cook. The quality of meat available to us since we moved to a new state has been atrocious, so cooking it to perfection is a feat. He asked for an oven thermometer and a meat thermometer for his birthday (no freaking clue where he put the ones I got him for Christmas, but I digress). He is the kind of person who is really hard to shop for because he buys what he wants/needs on his own, thus why he asked for a seemingly lame gift in the first places. I was searching on Amazon, as we do, and came across these babies. I figured, it kills two birds with one stone and helps you cook it well too. Why not? He was confused at first, then excited that it was "techy" and thought it was total overkill but who cares, he it always thoughtful with me. Fast forward to him actually using them. He called me at work to tell me about how freakin' good the, usually cruddy but not his fault, chicken breast was that he made using this. He didn't have to worry about guessing the time or ruining the juiciness by checking if it was done. I can attest, he is a good cook limited by the quality of ingredients, but these are probably the juiciest tastiest chicken meals he has every made! Needless to say, these are amazing. I finally found the gift you buy someone who has everything, and he has been telling all of our friends to buy these too. Totally worth it.

Reliable Temp Probes Without the Wires

I purchased to use with my smoker. I was tired of wrangling wired temp probes each time I wanted to add or remove items from my smoker. Both users and technical writers highly rated these. I ordered them and the first cook I used them on was an 18-hour full packer brisket smoke. The probes paired fine with my smartphone but I continually had issues out of one of the probes not staying connected. I would have to get within six (6) inches of the probe for it to reconnect and read properly. This went on throughout the cook. The ambient temperature readings were spot on with my other ambient temp probes in my smoker. The internal temp readings were also very accurate and allowed me to know what the temp of the meat was at several places at once. My second cook was a full, bone-in turkey breast that smoked for four hours. This time I did not experience the issue with the second probe as I had when I smoked the brisket. Again, both the ambient and internal temperatures were spot on. I would recommend these probes and I would purchase them again. I have two suggestions for Meater: 1) Allow end-users to purchase the four-probe block without the probes so that we can grow our own set as we need additional probes but get the benefits of the wi-fi connected block as opposed to what I am having to do now which is have both bamboo blocks attached to my grill to provide the constant reading capabilities. 2) Work on the cook time estimator of the app. When I first added my brisket and set both probs to that, they both said it would be ready in 2.5 hour @ 225-degrees. That is totally unrealistic and shows that the logic does not exist to know that brisket will take a lot longer to reach the internal temperature of 203-degrees than a prime rib loin will. Just needs some work on the estimating functions of the app. Overall, I am very happy with these devices.

I love this probe -- but the range is disappointing

Honestly I love these probes. I don't know how I was smoking meats without them. ... but ... The bluetooth range is disappointing. I have to essentially keep going outside to get a reading. I will NEVER AGAIN buy probes that don't connect to WIFI, because I want to know what's happening when I am working inside the house but also from the office or while out doing errands, etc. Edit Mar 2nd 2023 Since I wrote my first review I became more familiar with the probes. This does not change my 4 star rating although to be honest I'm tempted to lower it. (1) I learned that you could get extend the range simply by moving the base as far from the probe as possible. It seems pretty self-evident, but I am betting that many of us place the base very close to the grill out of habit (2) Significantly, if you have an extra device or tablet, you could apparently use that device to pick up the signal, and it can in turn upload the info to the cloud. In theory, you could use any old phone with a cracked screen that connected to WIFI to do this, which would enable you to monitor the cook while out and about doing errands etc. I didn't test his as I do not have an extra device, but it is potentially a game changer. Look it up on YouTube if you want to learn more. (3) I also learned that the damned probes sometimes simply refuse to connect and require a lot of troubleshooting. After a few uses you will need to scrub the residue from previous cooks off of the ends of probes with sand paper, but even this sometimes does not work. At the moment only one of the two is working for some reason. (4) The app is very nice. I saw videos of other probes in action on YouTube and realized that the Meater app is special. Having said this I am investigating other brands, in case something special comes along, I wouldn't be averse to switching. (5) Finally, there is no way to know which of the two probes that come in this package belongs to which base, which can be very annoying, esp. if one or both of them is not working.

These are the best remote probes I have ever used!

These are the best remote probes I have ever used! I have purchased in the past several other remote probes including the iDevices models. The iDevices were my favorite ones except for the cord that was used to run to the outside temperature sensor always caused problems. What sold me on these with the fact that there were no cords and it was all done via Bluetooth. I will be honest I read reviews about the range once inside of the devices which made it easy for me to purchase the MEATER +2 pack for the extra range using the charging base as a repeater. Also the ability to use a secondary device to transmit via Wi-Fi to the cloud so I can remotely monitor was the selling point. I paired up an iPad to be the repeater to the cloud and had no issues at all. I will be honest after reading reviews here I was concerned about all of those but I am writing this review just say that they’ve all performed flawlessly. From the internal temperature to the ambient temperature to the Bluetooth to the meter cloud, these are the best I have ever used. In some of the reviews I was concerned mainly about the Bluetooth transmit range as well as some of the in consistency is with the temperature readings. After making my first pork shoulders of the season I can say that they all worked without a hitch. The Bluetooth range is extended by the charging cases and as I was able to walk throughout my house without losing connection. After hooking up the iPad and transmitting to the cloud I was able to use this and monitor the temperatures as I travel throughout the city doing errands while the smoker was doing it’s magic. It never once dropped out and I was able to pull up temperatures within a few seconds. I tested the probes in hot water prior to using them and they were within a degree of the manual gauge. After using them in the smoker yesterday, they all performed within a few degrees Of each other as well as a few degrees of the ambient temperature using a separate gauge inside the smoker. I’ve verified after pulling the meat out that the sensors in the MEATER + and another separate probe were spot on. It is important to make sure that the probes are cleaned when they’re done so they can charge and be ready for the next time you use them. All of the instructions in the boxes as well as the app make this product easy to use and set up which is more than I can say for other products that also advertise cloud usage. I had all of these items set up and ready to go within a few minutes. I am very glad about this purchase and would be willing to answer any questions about the performance and secondary uses of them. This is an exceptional product and I am so glad I made the purchase!

Excellent for air fryer, oven & smoker with and thicker cuts of fish or meat.

I had been toying with the idea of ordering completely wireless meat/fish thermometers for about six months now, but changed my mind every time I read the reviews here. There just seemed to be too many issues with reliability. However, while cooking wild-caught salmon, halibut etc in our air fryer and oven, especially when doing parchment cooking, I realized how easy it is to over cook the fish and ruin the tastes. Since we pay a lot for the wild-caught fish to be shipped to us and having some ruined while cooking them, I finally decided to bit the bullet and buy a Meater to see how well it works. Fortunately, I have Facebook friends in a Smoking Meat group who gave me some good advice while I was deciding what to buy and how to use the probes. They recommended the + model to get good signal range and iCould connectivity. They also recommended that I not use the probes in my smoker because the smoke will eventually render the probes useless through buildup of residue on the surface, especially on the charging end. Thus advised, I bought the Meater+2. I wanted two probes so I can check one against the other while cooking and so I could check fish fillets as they cook even though two of them may be much different in thickness...and cook to the right internal temp at different rates. I am happy I bought it with the two probes. Before using the Meater+2, I tested the probes in freezing water and boiling water. They passed those tests with flying colors with +- 1 F difference. I then used the probes to cook fish in both an air fryer and oven inside of parchment wraps. The fish I was cooking varied by as much as 1/2 inch, so being able to see how fast each fillet was cooking was a bonus. The thinner filets would reach 125F much faster than the thicker ones, and I could remove them from the heat while still cooking the thicker ones to get to the same internal temp. Along the way, I discovered several issues that I figured out how to solve by using techniques I use for our Internet router and computers. First, I had the Bluetooth connection for one probe to stop more than once while cooking. Since there is no on/off switch that allows a reset of the probes, I simply unplugged the battery in the charger/transmitter and then plugged it back in. That restarted the probe every time. Second, I found that the direct line of sight and proximity of the probes to the charger/transmitters is critical. If I moved a charger/transmitter box behind a marble cutting board, the signal to the probe and to the iPad would drop every time. Sometimes the iCloud alternative signal would kick in, but I liked the screen look for Bluetooth, so I learned to leave the chargers/transmitters close to the probes. My final take on the Meater +2 is that it is a keeper, and that it improves my fish cooking. Cooking other thicker items such as chicken and turkey in the air fryer or oven work as well. Cooking really thin or short items like chicken wings will not work with the Meater because of the 2.5 inch length of the probe that must be buried in the meat or fish to protect the sensitive end of the probe. Update: after using the two Meater probes for about a month, I am revising my review. I have found the probes work fairly well when the food is not wrapped in aluminum foil. Placing the food and probes inside of an aluminum foil wrap reduces reliability substantially. The thicker the foil, the worse it gets. With heavy duty foil, one probe would not work at all. I found that I have to leave the ambient (black) end protruding above the foil. The other thing I have found is that I have to keep the silver cap on the ambient end really clean and polished using fine grit sandpaper. Otherwise, the probes do not fully charge and may not work. Charging for 8 hours seems to make them work much better.

    Wow! Exactly what I wanted!

I've been using wired temperature probes in my smoker and grill for a few years now. They work great but the bluetooth range of the transmitters is quite limited while I'm in the house. I began to research some of the newer WiFi-connected devices which seemed to be my next upgrade but they still had a wire tethered to the probe. Then I happened upon something that I thought was a gimmick... completely wireless temperature probe. I figured one or two issues might get in the way... battery life and sensitivity of the device to heat. I read several reviews, watched online video tests and decided to give it a try. The Meater+ has exceeded my wildest expectations. The battery life is great. I had a 12 hour smoking job and it barely made a dent in the battery of the probe. I compared the temperature readings with my Javelin digital and it was spot-on. Battery... check. Accuracy... check. Next was a great feature in a single probe... the end of the probe is a separate sensor to report the ambient temp of the smoker/grill. Then, the real bonus was using an old iPhone as a WiFi repeater. The bluetooth was received by my first iPhone that I left next to the smoker. It connected to my home WiFi where I could watch progress from both my main phone and iPad inside the house. With a 12-hour job I don't sit around waiting. While out for the day, I was able to watch the job on my phone while away from the house! Nice!!! And the software for the Meater+ is great! Shows progress of the job, estimated time to completion and has pre-programmed templates for temperature selections (of course, you can set your own.). The graph of temps was nice to look at and see how well I was maintaining the smoker temp. This is a great device and I'll definitely be adding the new probe Block when it comes out this summer. It will replace the second phone and serve as it's own WiFi repeater. Thanks Meater!!

    Was expecting better temp accuracy

Being that these have been around so long, i would have figured these would have been pretty accurate and the bugs worked out. I bought the two pack and have put them side by side in my smoker and one follows the temp gauge in the smoker along with another temp device and the other is about 10 degrees off. Haven’t found a way to “calibrate” them yet to a known source. There are others out there that have more functionality and lower out of pocket costs. The app is ok, but the ambient temp wont display until it gets above a certain temp. Unfortunately it is when smoking it doesn’t always get high enough to read the ambient temp.
