Really Snappy, Simple but Convenient User Interface, but Missing Necessary Apps.

I've really been enjoying this box so far. The firey alternative was beginning to get much to slow for me and it was driving us NUTS. We wanted something with Android TV instead of a generic tv-box that has heavily modified, basic android versions on it. We have Xiaomi phones and have been extremely happy with them so decided to take the leap on this. We're happy we did! It's fast and really easy to use. The only gripe we have with it is that it's missing Hulu and Prime Video apps. We couldn't believe it when we saw; I assumed it would have the full Play-Store and we would just download all of the apps we want like normal. This wasn't the case, apparently Hulu has had performance issues on the platform in the past and they decided to pull it off of the market until it's fixed. It's been off the market for months now from what I've read, and I don't expect Hulu to jump on it anytime soon. Amazon and Google of course have a strenuous relationship and as such Android TV's don't have Prime Video available on it, and least not currently. For Hulu, I was able to download a legacy .apk of the app, and install it manually. It worked! I tried the same method for Prime Video, but it wouldn't let me log-in properly. I can personally live without Prime Video and Hulu, but my fiance would become monstrous if she didn't have access to Hulu. These are the biggest complaints I have with this box, and it really isn't the boxes fault so I place blame on Google, Amazon, and Disney (Disney owns Hulu). It's funny because although Hulu isn't available and arguably neglected by Disney on Android OS, Disney+ works perfectly fine. Regardless, the box performs like a beast and I have been loving it for Netflix, Hulu, Plex, Kodi, Sling TV, Pluto TV, etc, etc, etc and haven't had issues. Overall it's a great bang for your buck, but if you can't live without Prime Video or don't have the know-how to manually install Hulu, then you may want to look elsewhere for now.

Perfect fit for the Job I bought it for

I bought this with the belief that it might be a suitable replacement for my Amazon Fire TV (old one), or perhaps my Raspberry Pi Kodi box. In some ways, it can admirably do both. It's set up out of the box with Android 9 TV software. The Google play store seems to be limited, so you may have to look for ways around that online. I'm in a place where the internet service is not great, so most of my movie and TV experiences are from hard drives. To my surprise, and happily so, this thing can read large hard drives. I tested it with a 4TB western digital HD. It was able to detect the full drive size. With Kodi installed, I am able to watch every movie on the drive. It comes with Netflix and prime video pre-installed, so I could use it as a replacement for the Fire TV. The only drawback so far is that it has only one USB port. I would imagine that with a powered USB hub, this thing would be able to read multiple drives at once. Bottom line, it's an impressive little device with a reasonable price tag.

A great product with analog and digital audio out.

This is an inexpensive and high-quality android TV box. What makes it special is it features an analog and an optical digital audio out. Why is this good? I use one of these as a dedicated audio streaming receiver in my home. I connect to it with Chromecast and play my streaming music directly from this box into my sound system. This is much better than Bluetooth, once you start the music playing you can turn the phone off or leave your home altogether and the music will keep playing. Another cool thing about a product like this is if you go on vacation you can take it with you and plug it into the hotel TV HDMI input. We went to Costa Rica and I subscribed to a VPN service that had an app for this device. I was able to stream from all of my services that otherwise would not be allowed out of the country.

    Solid Android TV box

Does everything well, picture quality is good, speed is acceptable, not super fast but not slow either. Installed and ran every app I needed. It will NOT install Hulu from the Google Play Store, but I was able to side-load it without issue. Netflix was pre-installed, but works fine now, although upgrading in the future may be an issue.

Does exactly what it says it does and does it well

I've been using this for a few year now and I'm surprised at some of the reviews. BLUF: I love the little device and wouldn't hesitate to buy one again. The good: 1) Good picture quality. 2) Vanilla, junk-free software/interface. 3) Ongoing updates (not troublingly frequent, but clearly not abandoned). 4) Support for Prime Video (not all devices have this). 5) Support for side-loading via USB. 6) Support for Google App Store. 7) Smooth, responsive UI. 8) Attractive looking and feeling puck. The bad: 1) The build quality on the remote could be better (buttons are a bit clicky, battery compartment door feels a bit...delicate). 2) WiFI only, no wired LAN. To be fair, my "bad" list is really just a few niggles. I'd say it's a top 5 device along with Apple TV, Fire Sticks, Nvidia Shield, and Roku and I've used most of those devices (except the Nvidia Shield) and they've all ended up in a drawer except for the Mi S. If I was going to replace it it would be between the Nvidia Shield and another Mi S. I really like the pure, bloat-ware-free experience and the continued support. And at 1/3 or so the cost of a Shield I doubt I'd talk myself into one of those. As a pure streaming device, this thing nails it.

Not a good TV tuner. Hardware lag of power to support it.

I am looking for alternative live TV turner. Xiaomi Mi Box S has good review on the net/amazon. But it is a disappointment for me. First, there is no Ethernet port. I was overlook when I order the device. Without Ethernet port, you leave with only 2G/5G wireless. But for live TV/HDHomeRun user, you better have Ethernet connection to your network. To my surprise, the live tv app, the one come with the box, is working well with HDHomeRun box. My wife prefer the live tv app better then the HDHomeRun app. It a little bit slow when switch channel, but present with familiar channel lineup. That nice to see. Big disappoint come when I realize that the remote doesn't have numeric key. To switch from channel 520 to 651, you would have to scroll thought hundred of channel to get there, which painful. Google assistant, It's work! BUT it is very slow, especially, while watching live TV. To switch the channel, I hit google assistant button and say "tune to channel five hundred fifty one", it would take 3-4 second to switch the channel, if not longer or mistakenly interpreted my command. Worst, the sound is gone after switch channel. The only way to get the sound back is to exit the livetv app and restart again. By the way, you can not say "tune to channel five five one". It won't recognize as channel five hundred fifty one. The HDHomeRun work well. I can watching live TV via this device/live tv app mostly with no lag. Don't try to do other thing thou. Google assistance will slow thing down while watching live TV, for example. I have not try other application thou. I won't commend on that. For the setup process, I get stuck with "easy" setup thought the phone. I have to manually setup the box without copy account from the phone. I don't think I can blame the device for that. Summarize: I realize most of the problem come from software. But without properly hardware support, such as lag of powerful CPU, or remote or wired network, are also contribute a lot to the problem. I think there are android tv box out there that have better hardware support and cheaper for you to pick from.

Super Fast, direct, integrates with google perfectly..blows away the firestick 4k

Im not sure why the person in the review below had an issue with the speed or using Hulu. Need hulu just download it like any other app and it works perfectly. I have firestick 4ks on every TV but have a google home system throughout my house. This box rocks in comparison. ZERO ads on the main screen, just a smart layout with your apps and where you are on your current episodes (it shows your netflix shows on the main screen). It has zero lag, zero. The firestick would sometimes stick and then spit out all the remote presses at one time. Did I mention ZERO ADS for shows etc or prime video, just your apps. Integrates with Google Home so you can speak to open netflix, pause, rewind, turn off/on, volume up/down. The only negatives are there are no fwd/rev/pause buttons directly on the remote which means you have to press the main button then use the screen icons to go back/fwd/pause. I also had an issue with one TV and the CEC functions that work to have the box control the TV/AMP power. It works great on my Phillips TV but randomly turns the TV off with the MI remote power button on my TCL Roku TV. All in all, a fast, responsive box that is no frills, just pure google tv. Also the menu button on the remote brings up your apps in a window over what you are watching so you can switch between them instead of leaving one, going to another, going back and starting all over on the first. Great feature.
