Great for the price, but waiting a month for a replacement

I purchased this unit to replace a Roomba e6. Summary review - it is far superior. Many of the negative comments are true, but are in comparison to a $600+ Roomba. If you want all those features, reliability, intelligence, etc., then pay $600+. This review is in comparison to a Roomba e6. I paid $300 for the e6 years ago, and paid <$250 for this unit, on sale. Compared to Roomba e6 : - Far better coverage. It maps as it goes, so it tries to cover as much as possible without repeating. It can do most of 1300 sq ft house in a pass. The e6 could barely cover one room with it's brain-dead bouncing around. It does not memorize the map for use in the next pass (unlike a top-end model). It will sometimes miss a room, but next pass it might get that room but miss something else. Not ideal, but far superior to price-equivalent bounce-around model. - Doesn't get stuck The e6 could not make it through a pass without getting stuck several times. I'd have to spend so much time rescuing it or blocking & unblocking areas with pillows, etc., that it took less time to use a vacuum. This thing is fire-and-forget. It has a low profile so it easily fits under furniture the e6 would get stuck under. - Price Hella functionality for < $300. - Easy to clean Hopper and brush are easy to remove, empty, and clean. I recommend gently cleaning the dust filter with a kitchen spray nozzle and allow it to dry. This is not mentioned in the manual, but that filter gets really dirty and needs more than just banging it out. Do it after every use. - Quiet. With the e6 running, we could not watch TV in a separate room, even with the door closed, because it was so noisy and would fruitlessly bang itself against our bedroom door. I don't watch TV (except sports) in the same room as this unit, but it is not disruptive through a closed door. It is running while I am typing this and it is not at all distracting, unlike the e6 that sounds like a jet landing in my house. - Good suction Picks up way more than the e6. The hopper needs to be emptied after every use. Neither the e6 nor my Dyson pick up that much. - No problem with tile/carpet It has no problem transitioning from tile to carpet or rug or bath mat. Other people have reported a problem. I think this depends on your particular floor/rug/mat/layout. - OK with cat litter We have a litter box mat that grabs most of the litter as the cat steps out. It won't pick that up. But it will get other stray bits of litter. - Wifi setup hinky It was not as simple as 1-2-3. I'm tech savvy so I figured it out on my own (can't remember how). Others have reported this problem. Call tech support for help. Echo other reviews - they really need to make this process simpler so non-tech savvy person can plug-and-play this thing. - Unknown reliability I don't know how reliable it will be, as I've only had it a few weeks and run it about a dozen times. I almost never get extended warranties, they are usually a rip off, but I got one for this because of warnings that it only lasts about a year. It's about $35, so if it dies inside 3 years I'll get another. - App functionality There are complaints that you can't do some things with the app like tell it to skip a room or whatever. I don't use any of that, for this or the e6, so I don't know and don't care. I don't want to tell it to do anything, certainly not mid-cleaning. I just want to start it and let it run. - Finds it's way home The e6 navigates as well as a drunk sailor. Almost never found it's way home so I'd have to go hunting around to find it, on hands and knees looking under all the furniture, and every nook of the house. Waste of my time. This unit has gotten lost only once. - Wife likes it Nuff said. The main reason I got this was so that it could go under furniture, not get stuck, and get better coverage than the e6, for ~$300. It does all that. If you want more, cough up $600. Highly recommend. EDIT 13Oct2022 - The first unit worked well for months before developing a rattling type noise, widely reported by others. Eufy was quick to send a replacement, after I posted the old one. I got it within days. That one had the rattling noise out of the box. I went back and forth with their support/engineers; they were diligently trying to find a cause and cure, and I was impressed. Eventually they told me to return it, and they would send a new one after a posted the old one. I waited the requisite 10 days for the replacement to arrive, it didn't, I contacted support again and they told me woops, it didn't get shipped cuz of a problem at our end, we'll ship it now and send you a tracking number. Wait wait wait, nothing. Email them again, woops it still hasn't shipped, we'll ship it soon. I've now been waiting a month for a replacement. I was so impressed at first with the product and customer service, they easily earned five stars. This fiasco has dropped it to two stars. I told them to express it to me NOW; if it gets here tomorrow I'll raise this up to 4*, but don't count on it. Update : eufy did expedite the unit to me, and all is well now. I hope they fix whatever problem they have in their warehouse, cuz they otherwise have a great product and support.

Nice app - Picks up an impressive amount every day!

PROS: 1) The short story: I love it. I'm shocked at what this picks up in my home every day. EVERY DAY. It's nearly a full compartment of dust/dog hair.. I'm honestly blown away.. where does it all come from? My house looks and feels so much cleaner now all the time with almost zero effort. 2) MAPPING: I specifically waited to buy one that had an app and a mapping feature and wouldn't wander in circles aimlessly. It's satisfying to see it travel back and forth in neat lines and then see the map of the house and where it has cleaned, and to be able to control it remotely with the app. 3) SUPPORT: Eufy support is responsive and helpful ([email protected], or use the live chat option) and the reps seem to genuinely care about the customer experience, which makes me feel more confident about continuing to have Eufy vacs in the future.. especially as long as the company stays competitive with it's features/price points. 4) PRICE POINT: I read a lot of consumer reviews/lists of best reviewed vacuums since I first started thinking about getting one of these and Eufy came up on top a lot. And, their products are competitively priced in general. I did get a discount for being an early purchaser of this model, but I think the regular price is reasonable, and these things do go on sale frequently, and this one will too. CONS: 1) MAPPING: It does not remember it's own map day to day, and starts over each time. It would be nice if you could save areas and direct it to certain rooms/etc. However, this is not a feature of this model (on an email with Eufy support I was told the L70 Hybrid model has a 'laser navigation system' with a radar that scans the room and saves a more accurate map.) 2) GOING HOME TO RECHARGE: It has yet to return to it's base on it's own for me, since once I notice it revisiting the same area it has already cleaned I send it home. And, then.... it has a very hard time finding home if it's not in the same room.. I sometimes end up carrying it back to it's room to speed up the process. This is a bit annoying honestly. Neutral observations: 1) TUMBLEWEEDS: in a 1000-sq-ft space with tiled flooring and a few rugs, at first I noticed it blowing a lot of doggie hair tumbleweeds around on the tile, but as it's gotten on a daily schedule it does a (really good) job keeping them at bay. 2) OBSTACLES/RUGS: it does a fine job climbing on top of rugs, thresholds, etc. Though it doesn't have a problem with short/1 inch rug fringe, it will have a problem with longer (3") rug fridge, be aware (probably true with all robot vacs). There is also a nice suction setting: 'Boost IQ,' which will automatically adjust suction power in between hard flooring/carpet, etc. 3) LONG HAIR: households with long haired-inhabitants need be aware hair will get wrapped around the roller brush piece and need removal. I suspect this is standard with robot vacuums, and Eufy includes a handy razor+comb tool to cut through the hair and it's not a big deal, but has to be done probably every couple uses/inspect when emptying the dust trap. If it's not kept up with it does have a harder time keeping rugs/carpeting clean, I notice.

Herbie the Eufy robovac is doing a good job so far. Eufy won’t sell you replacement filters.

Edit Edit (7/28): I received a kit from Eufy today after they contacted me about not being able to secure replacement parts for the robot. The kit they sent me is part no. X002AO0L9P. They also sent the following part numbers you can try: filter:B07W6WF7BS kit: B07W5VZRRW side brush: B07CWSS5GZ rolling brush: B07CWRQK6M I’m guessing it takes the same parts as another robot and they just hadn’t updated the product listings yet and the person I first spoke to at Eufy didn’t know what they were talking about. Anyway revising my review up to the original 4/5 I gave it. The robot is still going strong and picks up a good amount of dust every day. I had planned to maybe reduce the frequency of the cleans but it is so unobtrusive I think we will just let it do it’s thing daily. It has got caught on an iPhone charging cable on 4 different days but the only way to solve that problem would be a divorce. Edit: I tried to buy replacement filters/brushes for the thing and they aren’t on their website. I contacted Eufy and they said “well it’s only been out a month”. Apparently the only way to know when they deem it appropriate to sell consumables is to check their website every week. Annoying, I want to buy some and forget about it. If your product is on sale then the consumables should be on sale, dropping to 3 stars until I find out they are available. Original Review: We’ve had the little fella for about 10 days now. It’s our first robot vacuum so don’t have anything to compare to but so far we are happy with our purchase. I paid for the promo code before release so did get the $120 off the price of the thing. I’m super lazy so it had a test ahead of it, but it’s done well so far and the whole house feels so much cleaner. I replaced the threshold from the kitchen in our home as it was too high for it to climb over, and it has got stuck in a couple of places. Our house is crowded with stuff so it has a lot to navigate around. Places it has been stuck: under my guitar amplifier, turns out the wheels are exactly the height of the vac so it has wedged in there; after getting wound up in a charging cable so be sure to keep all wires out of its path. I like that I get a notification on my phone if it is stuck so I know I have to deal with it. It does push up the lightest rug in our house but it just bunches it up and keeps going. It’s not a high traffic area so I’m not worried about tripping on the rug but for safety i’d be aware of rugs being pushed up. A heavier rug seems to be no problem for it, just bounces right up on top. I have been emptying the tray every day and after starting off almost full it has reduced down to a much smaller amount so it’s clear it has made a big difference in only 10 days. When I first saw the brushes it uses I was a bit skeptical expecting something a bit more robust, but it has picked up some things I wouldn’t have expected it to be able to. My wife’s long hair seems to get wound around things a bit so if you had a pet or a human in the house with long hair I imagine a more regular clean of the brushes would be a good plan. The little map it draws is pretty cool but I find sometimes the map freezes during the clean and will not resume. The light on the thing says it is still connected to WiFi and it can still be told to do things but the dot doesn’t move on the map. It doesn’t interfere with the scheduled clean and it still makes its way back to the base but it’s a bit annoying not to know exactly where it is when you are supposed to have that map. I was comfortable to buy an Anker product as I’d used their phone chargers and cables and I have a battery for my Nintendo they made and they have all been great products. When working in Germany I was evangelizing about their chargers and was told that their stuff is cheap and nasty. That’s not my experience at all, their products so far for me have been of good value and the one time I needed a replacement for a faulty phone charging cable they were swift to replace it.

Still working well for us after almost three years - plus easy to replace parts

[Updated 6-7-2023] Almost at three years of constant use now and we finally had a significant failure--the pivot on the front roller-ball wheel broke off. As noted below, however, Eufy offers replacement parts for seemingly every part of this vacuum (you could pretty much build your own just out of spare parts) and shipped me a new wheel for $10 with free shipping. I ordered a replacement battery at the same time since our runtime had dropped to about 80 minutes. Installing the new wheel and battery took five minutes total, and the vac now rolls smoothly again and has a runtime back up to 100-minutes plus. One other update--it appears that Eufy updated the software to prevent the "light as obstacle" problem. I hadn't checked in months but noticed recently that the vac now moves through sunlit bright sections on the floor without any issue. Upgraded my review to five stars since this product has now far outperformed my initial expectations. [Updated 8-30-22] Two years of running two days a week and the G30 is still going strong. It's a bit noisier than it used to be, but it still returns home with a canister full of pet hair after every run. I've found that I haven't had to replace the consumable parts such as brushes and filters nearly as often as recommended--which honestly isn't that often. Vacuuming the filter after each run when emptying the canister seems to keep it working well beyond the suggested 200 hours even if it's not quite as efficient as it was when new. Eufy should also be commended for its attitude toward replacement parts. You can find everything from filters to wheels to motors for the G30 and other models on Eufy's site, along with videos for how to replace the parts yourself. As we all know, many manufacturers seem intent on making you replace an entire product when something simple breaks or wears out. It's good that Eufy is being more responsible to its customers. (I won't say "to the planet" since honestly, the best thing for the planet would be for all of us to go back to brooms and dust pans rather than robots.) [Updated 7-28] This is our first robovac, and thus far we're loving it. We have two cats and two dogs, and have spent every spring watching furry dust bunnies gather under the furniture and in the corners, even with regular cleaning. I had a chance to buy the G30 on sale as an early adopter, and having liked other Eufy/Anker products, I took the chance. We currently run it daily, and it comes back completely full of animal hair every time--which is both gratifying and a little eye-opening as we clearly had no idea how much fur was really floating around the house. It's thin enough to get under most of our bigger furniture, it's quite quiet (though we pause it if it's cleaning near us when we're watching TV), and it's been able to get over the thresholds between our rooms even though they're right at the stated height limit. I expect this is in part because they have a rather smooth ramp to the top--if they were more squared off on the sides I'm not sure we'd have been so lucky. As for the quirks: 1) Like others, we initially had some issues with the side brush sometimes getting caught on our area rugs, causing the vac to reverse direction. Two things corrected the problem for us. First, I discovered I had not been inserting the side brush quite firmly enough--it required a bit more pressure to fully seat into place, which raises it just a bit higher off the floor. Second, our rug pads were very close to the edge of the rugs. I trimmed the pads by a couple inches and then curled the rug edges downward, toward the floor to make the edges sit more squarely on the hardwood. That solved the getting-caught problem for us, so it might be worth a try if you encounter the same issue. 2) It can be blinded by strong sunlight. (See the video.) We found that it would sometimes approach places in our kitchen where morning sun was hitting the floor, and it would treat the sunlit squares as physical obstacles. Eufy support suspected this was because the drop sensors on the sides of the vac were blinded by the glare. Small pieces of tape over the sensors did help, but we instead decided to simply run the vac at night. (I'd also commend Eufy's tech support for being very quick to respond and helpful.) 3) Our hundred-year-old house has antique furnace grates with relatively large holes (maybe 3/4-inch at largest). These holes seem to be large enough that the drop sensors occasionally get spooked and cause the vac to skirt the grates--not a big deal, but it does slow down the cleaning process a bit. 4) The orientation of the charging base to your floor plan seems to have an impact on cleaning efficiency, at least in our case. I had originally placed the base on an angled wall in a bump-out, which caused the vac to start cleaning at a diagonal to the walls. I didn't see any particular issue with this, but after about a week, I moved the base to a nearby but slightly more hidden location on a wall square to the floor plan. Before the move, the vac averaged about 532 sq feet of cleaning per session as reported by the app. After the move, it's averaging 672 sq feet of cleaning and seems less likely to get confused in the odd corners of the house. So experimenting with base location may be worthwhile to optimize the vac's efficiency. All in all, a good purchase, particularly on sale.

    This is a game changer!!

I got the Eufy G30 after going back and forth for a long time on whether a robovac would be worth it. I don't know why I waited so long. This thing is awesome. The first time I used it, I followed it around like a cat watching its every move. I was amazed at the places it fit into - under the couch, under the bathroom vanity... it came out looking like it had been bushwhacking through the jungle, all covered in spider webs and dust! If there was a spot it seemed to miss, without fail it would return and clean it up. It follows a back-and-forth pattern in the room, and after it's covered the entire house, it sweeps around the perimeter one last time before returning to its base. PROS: -It picks up cat litter and pet hair very well! -Great at getting under furniture and in nooks and crannies that would otherwise go unvacuumed. -Returns itself to its base when finished, or if it needs to charge before finishing. -The app lets you see where it's been, and you can schedule cleanings. It also alerts you if it gets stuck. -It's not too loud. Barely hear it when in another room. -Cleans really well! I have it on the lowest suction and I'm happy with that. It's amazing how much dust it picks up. There are higher suction settings if needed. -Favorite Thing: I keep my house cleaner now. Before turning on the Eufy, I go around and tuck in any loose cords and pick up various things from the floor. It takes 2 minutes and means the Eufy can get everywhere, AND I have a less-cluttered house. Win/win. CONS: -It will occasionally wedge itself under a piece of furniture if it approaches it from a certain angle, and gets stuck. It doesn't happen every time and I've learned to block off a couple of spots. After you rescue it, it picks up where it left off. -It doesn't like shag rugs. OVERALL: I'm so glad I finally got this robovac. I researched a lot of different brands and models, and I think the G30 is a great choice if you want one that's not super expensive but still does a fantastic job. Very pleased with it!

Better than I thought it would be

This little robo vacuum is surprisedly wonderful. I was expecting to have to chase it around to clear it if obstacles and pick up after missed spots but so far after almost three weeks of it running each day I’ve only had to get it unstuck once. I thought for sure it would not be able to get around under our round dining room table and chair legs as the chairs even have lower stretcher pieces between the legs and nope she gets around them. The other thing I’m impressed with is how she negotiates around chair legs, pillars and any obstacle. I choose this model as it has the navigation so it basically goes back and forth and works from one side of the floor to the other using it’s mapping feature. Instead of the random bounce around mechanism. For suction power and cleanup is very good as well. I had vacuumed prior to first use as recommended and after she went out for the first pickup the dust bin was full. So she is finding stuff to clean. We have it just on one floor that is about 2000sqft and she can do it all on one dust bin I haven’t had to empty the dustbin midclean. She can’t do the whole floor on one battery charge so she heads home to recharge automatically before heading out again to finish where she left off (can turn this feature off if you don’t want it going back out to finish after recharging ). The app for your phone is great I think anyway. You can monitor where the robo is currently what it is doing how much charge, etc. you can also set schedules of course. There is a bypass to manual mode where you can direct it via the app if you want it to clean something more or clean something sooner then when you set it back to auto mode it goes back to where it left off and finishes. It is very quiet too even on max suction much much less than a regular vacuum and very easy to have it running while you are home without having to increase your voice level or turn up the volume on your tv. I find the boostIQ mode the best, where it runs on standard suction on hard floors then kicks into turbo suction (max is the highest) when going onto carpet areas. If it is in another room cleaning you can’t even hear it. So if it does have trouble or needs to head back home her voice can be set to different volume levels and it sends you a message on your phone also. Now like I mentioned I have only been using it for almost three weeks so we’ll see and I will update if I notice any problems. But so far quite happy. I should also mention that our floors are all hardwood with a few area rugs and tile baths. We also do have a dog with short hair that constantly sheds (main reason for this robo so I don’t have to vacuum constantly).

    Sad little vac

[Update 9/21/2020] So, it's been about 3 months of usage and back and forth with Eufy Customer Service and I do have a replacement, new charging dock, and many firmware updates in the weeks since they reached out. While the G30 works, it's still not my favorite device in the house. It's just has an odd way of operating in a regular home like hitting a barrier (table leg) and stopping for 2-3 seconds, spinning 360 degrees, spinning 90 degrees, moving forward, spinning another 270, spinning back to its original course, and continuing cleaning. I'd love to look at the code that makes this thing operate or sit with a team of developers and make some recommended changes. That being said, the actual cleaning part of the device works well, so my robot housekeeper will stay in action! I'm upping the star rating from 1 to 3 because ECS was very good to work with during the troubles. [Original post] Well, this G30 was ordered because I got an email from Eufy saying they were releasing a new vac and I could pre-order as I was already an existing owner. I thought, sure, because I wanted one for upstairs now that the kids have moved out for college. And with the features they promised that it was smart, used maps, did laps vs. random movement, I thought it would be perfect. Cleaning: About a week of usage at this point (7/20/2020) and I'm pretty bummed. I can't tell you how slowly it moves - will post video when I can. It moves during the cleaning cycle about as fast as my old vac moves when it's trying to park to recharge. It's painful. It moves about 10cm/sec and gets VERY easily confused by the simplest of things. Because it moves so slowly and gets confused easily, the battery drains very quickly during the cleaning. Old vac would do our first floor (maybe 850 square feet of cleanable space) and would have power to spare. New G30 can't make it off the carpeted area (12x22 ft) before plodding back to top off the battery. Then it takes about 2 hours to recharge after which it is set to go back and continue cleaning -- BUT, it just goes over the area it already cleaned and doesn't pickup where it left off. ODD behavior. Recharge: Slow and not smart. Takes a few hours, as mentioned above. I watched it bounce around the legs of a bench I have in front of the docking station, coming within 6 inches of the dock, and it still couldn't find the dock. It doesn't seem to have enough IR sensors around the sides to get an accurate picture of where the dock is and its orientation. Second case, I pointed it directly at the dock about 12 feet away and told it to go home. It proceeded to turn left and then work its way around the edges of the room before it found the dock about 10 minutes later. I'm going to try switching the dock with the old one and see how it works. More details as I get them and I will try to post a video update in the future.

    Eufy does a great job

This is actually a replacement for one I damaged, but the new one is quieter. It’s does a great job cleaning and runs for almost 2hours on a charge. Gets my whole house. Does awesome on dog hair on hardwood floors!

Does a good job and is quiet.

It does a good job. You can adjust the suction power which effects battery life. The app is good for programming the vacuum. The self cleaning feature is nice and is powerful. It has trouble finding the charging base sometimes so I've had to pick it up and put it on charge manually. Not a big deal. Took awhile to get the app to connect and update with new firmware but it eventually did it. Does the job and is pretty quiet.

    Great starter floor vacuum

This is my first floor vacuum. It cleans well and does a great job. This model is not a programmable vacuum, that's the only downside. If you have rooms you don't want cleaned, you will have to close doors or block the entrances. You will have to check up on it, it can get caught in places. Overall, this is a really good vacuum, easy to clean out and takes the work off of you so you can do the things you love instead.
