- Adam Samuels2022-10-13WiFi Problem SOLVED!
UPDATE (4/9/23): I forgot to power off my eufy while servicing it and did an accidental factory reset. While struggling to reconnect it to my WiFi, I found an easier way than the previously described method. I've read numerous posts from folks experiencing the same struggle, so I hope this helps. Here's what worked for me this time: • Uninstall eufy Clean app • Disable the 5 GHz band on router • Factory reset the robovac • Restart phone • Turn off mobile data on phone • Install the eufy Clean app • Sign in and follow prompts in eufy Clean app to setup robovac • Enabled the 5 GHz band on router • Success! (If this doesn’t work, try following these steps with a different phone) After researching for weeks, I narrowed my robovac choice down to the Eufy 11S or the Eufy G30 Edge. I had pretty much decided to buy the 11S but then the G30 Edge went on sale during the October 2022 Early Prime Access Sale. Even on sale, it was 60 bucks more than the 11S but the extra bells and whistles of WiFi capability were intriguing. I should have listened to Consumer Reports which rated the G30 Edge lower than the 11S and gave it a low score for privacy. After spending hours trying to connect the G30 Edge to my WiFi I phoned and spoke with a very nice customer service rep at Eufy (Anker). She had me try everything I'd already tried numerous times but I humored her and tried again. I hoped that once she realized I wasn't an idiot who doesn't take the time to research a problem, she would immediately hand me off to a higher level of tech support. Unfortunately, all she could do was forward my information to a supervisor who might contact me if anything else could be done. At this time I've not heard back from anyone. At this time I've ordered a Eufy 11S but had to spend an additional 10 bucks because the price increased from where it had been for more than a week. So, Eufy has cost me hours of my life that I can't get back plus 10 bucks. If I'm not satisfied with the 11S, I'll send it back and no longer consider buying another Eufy product. Hindsight being 20/20, I've gone back and searched specifically for customer reviews regarding problems with WiFi on the Eufy G30 Edge. At least I know I'm not alone as several customers mentioned having this problem. If you're struggling with your G30 Edge, here is what I tried several times, unsuccessfully, to solve the WiFi problem: - Disable the 5 GHz band on my router - Factory reset the robovac - Turn off the robovac power switch - Unplug the charger for 10 seconds - Uninstall and reinstall the app Of course, I followed all prompts from the app including making sure I disabled mobile data on my phone and connecting directly to the G30 Edge via 2.4 GHz WiFi. I'm using an Android phone (Pixel 3XL) and an Xfinity router. Obviously, the WiFi works for some customers but be wary if you are using a similar configuration. By the way, the G30 Edge seemed to clean well when started manually with the pushbutton on the robovac. However, I can't justify paying extra for the G30 Edge if I can't utilize the bells and whistles that require WiFi. The S11 is rated higher by Consumer Reports, comes with a remote control, and the privacy issues aren't a concern because it doesn't have WiFi. *UPDATE* I've not heard back from Eufy customer service but I did manage to solve the WiFi problem on my own. I'm sharing the details of my workaround in case anyone else experiences this problem. This was a cumbersome process but it worked for me: - Changed the SSID of the 2.4 GHz band on my router to "TEMP" - Factory reset the G30 Edge - Installed the eufy clean (Eufy Home) app on an old Android phone (Samsung) - I was then able to connect to WiFi and set up the G30 Edge using the "TEMP" SSID - Changed the 2.4 GHz SSID back to its original name - Disabled the 5 GHz band on my router - Factory reset the G30 Edge - I was then able to connect to WiFi and set up the G30 Edge with my current Android phone (Pixel) using the original name SSID - Enabled the 5 GHz band on my router - Success! I don't know if all the steps I listed are necessary but that's what I did and it worked. I was able to cancel my order for the 11S before it shipped. I'm going to give G30 Edge a chance now that I'm able to use the bells and whistles that require WiFi. Eufy customer service was friendly but not helpful. I find it unacceptable that I wasn't contacted by higher level tech support. The pleasant customer service rep with whom I originally spoke was limited to walking me through the basic setup steps I'd already tried numerous times.

First the pros: We have roughly 1600sq ft downstairs of which this vacuum was able to identify 1200sq ft and clean it accurately before the battery ran out. The mapping feature is GREAT and I was very impressed with how well the G30 navigated all of our furniture and what I thought were impassible spaces. I thought for sure the vacuum wouldn't navigate between kitchen chairs and under the very tight spaces of our couches and ottoman, but it handled it with ease. When the vacuum did get pinched, it found its way out and I didn't have to intervene. I am very impressed how far these have come since the first days of the iRobot models. The vacuum sneaks into areas and grabs dust bunnies, hair and particles that your average upright vacuum will miss. It's no joke. It's almost works too well, to the point the bin will fill up quickly if you're not careful. I note this below under the cons. For hardwoods, this vacuum works very efficient and effectively. There are some carpet runners and mats that got caught up in the rotors but it still managed to get free and recover that section of flooring. I rarely noticed the vacuum covering the same section of flooring twice, so trust in the vacuum even if you believe it hasn't covered a section of house, that it WILL return to map the walls. The updated navigation algorithms are excellent. The Cons: We have a couple of pets and they shed constantly. This was our main motivation for getting a robovac. Before the first run through our house, we did a cursory sweep of the big areas of our house. Even with the larger dust bin, I had to empty the container after ~600sq ft and it was full. I wish this model would notify you when the bin was full via an optical sensor or something. The good news is the bin what chucked full of hair and loose debris that I missed, but know that the bin will fill up quickly within several hundred sq ft. The best thing is to keep the vacuum on a regular schedule to minimize how full the bin will get between cleanings, especially if you have pets. Although the battery will cover roughly 1200 sq ft without stopping, the battery takes several hours between charges. I think that's normal, but it took me off guard and it prevents you from running the vacuum again immediately following a full cleaning. Rugs, cords and mats will get caught up in the wheels if they're not heavy or are not taped down. Bath rugs, toilet skirts, kitchen mats and other small rugs will fold up under the vacuum. I'd recommend getting some double-sided rug tape from Home Depot/Lowes before running the vacuum. Either that, or identify which rugs were re-located by the vacuum after the first run and act accordingly. You won't need to intervene when it folds up a rug, but you will need to reset the rug once the Eufy completes its run. This might not be a con, but it completed our 1200sq ft downstairs in roughly 2.5 hours before the battery ran out and it still had a couple of areas left to complete, so prepare accordingly. After the battery recharges, (roughly 3.5 hours later) it resumes where it left on the original map to complete the house. The vacuum is VERY thorough, but this takes time to complete. Overall, this is a great little vacuum and the included boundary strips are handy. We have an elevated bed with soft textiles stored underneath, so the included footage was just enough to outline our king sized bed. We didn't want to risk the vacuum tearing up or getting stuck on the items under the bed. I debated getting the regular G30 but I'd recommend the Edge simply for the magnetic strips. They are handy and you'll never know when you need them or identify an area off-limits for the vacuum.
- O. Perez2021-03-29One of our favorite home purchases EVER!
Purchased a Eufy 30C six months ago and loved it so much I bought the Eufy G30 Edge four months ago and gave the 30C to my mother-in-law. We have solid vinyl plank flooring that looks like wood throughout the entire house. Two rooms are blocked by the magnetic strips, so the G30 edge vacuums about 1,600 square feet of our 4 bedroom house. This thing picks of SO MUCH STUFF! I’m simply amazed at how much hair, dust and small debris gets sucked up every other day. PROS: 1. Vacuums up a lot of stuff. Our floors are clean all of the time. We’ve never had such pristine floors. 2. Easy to setup cleaning schedule on the app. 3. Map shows where the vacuum has already cleaned, square feet and time cleaning. It’s mostly accurate. 4. Improved cleaning pattern compared to the 30C. Vacuum goes back and forth then finishes with a perimeter run at the end of the cleaning cycle. 5. Our house is too large to clean on a single charge. The G30 Edge returns to the charging base when about 3/4 of the house is done. After partially charging, it returns to the spot on the map where it left off and resumes cleaning. It takes about three hours of vacuuming to get the job done. 6. The G30 is pretty quiet. We can watch TV while it does its job. Can’t hear it at all when it leaves the room. Not really an issue because it does it’s job when we’re at work. 7. Our Eufy G30 Edge always returns to the charging base quickly without struggling. I only noticed it struggling twice out of the about 120 times it’s traveled back to the charging base in four months. It’s never failed to return home. 8. Quick and easy to maintain. I dump the bin, brush off the filter and remove hair from the roller and side brush after every use. My wife and daughter shed like golden retrievers! The vacuum performs flawlessly if you keep the rollers, brush and wheels free of hair. Seems like a hassle, but it’s so much easier than vacuuming the house. Small price to pay for pristine floors all the time. Plus “happy wife... happy life!” 9. Spot vacuuming feature does a nice job dealing with small messes that need a quick cleaning. 10. App works nicely to manually control the vacuum so no remote is needed. CONS: 1. Had to disable the 5 ghz on our router in order to get the Eufy G30 vacuum to work with my iPhone and IOS 14. Initial setup with our network was a real struggle and we’re usually very good with technology. I teach very technical software at the college level and my wife is an IT professional. The Eufy 30C was much easier to connect to our WiFi. 2. Factory consumables like filters and brushes are a bit pricey. Aftermarket parts work, but don’t fit as well (roller brush). 3. Not a smart mapping system that allows you to program specific areas to be avoided. Relies on unsightly magnetic strips instead. Not that big of a deal. Overall this vacuum does an outstanding job especially for the price. My wife constantly says how much she loves her 2020 Christmas gift. Yes, I gave my wife of 34 years a vacuum for Christmas and a promise to do the emptying and maintenance and she LOVES it! One of our favorite home purchases EVER!
- Kayem2023-04-17Put googly eyes on it, you won't be sorry
There's a lot I really like about this robo vac, but the most important thing to know is that it is absolutely essential that you give it googly eyes. I have not had a single moment where I was in a bad mood after watching it clean once I did. Now for the rest of the review... I originally was going to get the iRobot i3 based on the reviews and having had a Roomba before. However, the price jumped by a hundred bucks on that in the week between picking a model and actually going to buy it. That put it firmly outside of my price range. After some searching around and reading, I chose the Eufy G30 Edge as my backup and let me tell you, I am so happy with it! Of all the backup options I had, I chose this one specifically because it is shorter than similar models. The one complaint I had about our old Roomba is that it was too tall to fit under the sofa or coffee table. That this one can slide under the sofa (and other low furniture) is a huge selling point for me. Under the sofa is where all the cat toys end up and I get sick of moving it to retrieve a gallon of plastic springs. On its maiden voyage, the Eufy pushed all of them out from under the sofa for me to pick up at my leisure. It was absolutely fantastic! Speaking of pet toys, the Eufy didn't try to crawl over the toys, just pushed them around. The only exception was toys that had long feathers on them, which would get caught in the rollers. I pick up all the toys before it runs a cleaning cycle, but I like knowing that it won't be an issue if a cat bats one to the floor while the Eufy is running. The lower price and reviews I read on Amazon for the Eufy also helped my decision to pick this over the others. I know one of the big selling points of Roombas is they are long-lasting and easy to repair, while this one is not as DIY friendly. However, for the price, it was worth the risk. Other reviewers mentioned it has a removable battery, which I thought was a plus. That might never be an issue for me, but I like the option to replace the battery if it came to that. Speaking of battery life, I haven't had an issue with it running out of juice. In fact, I will often run it twice in a row, especially if I've been doing a lot of yard work over the weekend and tracked in a bunch of debris. Though caveat to that, it only cleans my kitchen and living room, which takes 45 minutes to an hour each session, so I get 1.5-2 hours of use out of it easily. (My house is a 1950s 3-level-split. If I wanted to use the Eufy on the whole house, I would have to carry it to each floor or buy one for each level. The middle level with the kitchen and living room is the only part of the house that is a big rectangle suitable for robo vacs). But the important thing for me is it takes care of all the high traffic areas for me so my floors are no longer embarrassing. In spring and summer, I work 60+ hours a week and do not have time to vacuum as much as I need. The floors got hideous last year from neglect and I bought the Eufy specifically to address that. The little rotating brush helps a lot to pick up stuff near the baseboards and in corners, but I still have to take a damp cloth or other vacuum to those spots now and then. Thanks to the Eufy doing the bulk of the work, I can actually deal with the remainder of the floors within my work schedule. I can't say how well it works on carpet, as we don't have so much as a single throw rug. Our floors are a mix of hardwood and vinyl. I have the Eufy set to auto suction in the app and let it do it's thing. I can say that it is fantastic at picking up pet hair. We have two cats who think shedding is a competitive sport. I have the Eufy scheduled to run at lunch every MWF and there's enough to make a small kitten in the dust bin each time. It picks up the usual kind of dirt really well and its suction is good enough to get a lot of fine particle dust. Though that dust gets all static clingy to the inside of the bin, so wiping it out now and then helps. The Eufy does not like leaves or pine needles at all. It will push them around or they get caught in the wheels and dragged around. Threads of sisal rope from the cat tree wound around the brush, roller, and wheels but didn't stop them from operating. Though we had the same issue with our old Roomba. I'm impressed at how well it can go over rough terrain. We have a cat tree sitting on a piece of scrap sheet vinyl and when we first had our rescue cat, I caulked a thick rim around the edge of the vinyl to prevent her various accidents from getting onto the wood floors. The Eufy can get over the rim fairly easily. It can even climb up onto the base of the cat tree (also covered with a scrap of vinyl that also has a rim of caulk) but has more trouble getting down from there. Only once have I had to rescue it. I finally put a couple barrier strips down so it only has to go over the first caulk rim. Barrier strips are the reason I chose the G30 Edge over the regular G30. The aforementioned split level means stairs and I'd rather it not go tumbling down them. On the first run, I had not yet put down the strips and I watched it as it negotiated the landing. It did detect the edge and didn't go over, but I put the barrier down anyway just in case. As far as noise levels, it hasn't been an issue for me. My office is open to the rest of the house, so I hear it running, but it isn't distracting or noticeable in conference calls. It might be annoying if I was trying to nap on the sofa, but only because it occasionally makes clunking noises as it bumps into things or rolls over the floor vents. I do wish the brushes lasted longer. They tend to warp after a month or two of regular use but I'm sure there's a way to straighten them out. I am glad the Eufy comes with a spare brush and filter and that replacements are inexpensive. The shiny top shows dust and fingerprints like crazy (though at least that reminds me to dust now and then, I guess?). Navigation-wise, the Eufy seems to do pretty decently. It's a little dumb and occasionally forgets how to extricate itself from under the folding TV tray I'm using as a plant stand. I like that the app has the map feature. It's a good tool to see where there might be trouble areas. I included a screenshot of the map from today's cleaning. It did it's usual lunchtime run, then I did some maintenance on it, swapped out the brush and filter, and ran it a second time, hence the lower battery level. It also picked up way more dust once I did that. The first run gets cat hair and some debris, the second run gets the dust. Again, doesn't clean as well as our full size vacuum but it keeps the high traffic areas swept. And as others have said, it also helps me to keep the house overall more tidy, as I have to keep clutter off the floor. All in all, I'm very pleased with the Eufy G30 Edge. It functions well, was inexpensive, and looks amazing with googly eyes on it. The only thing that disappoints me is I can't convince any of the cats to take a ride on it. Probably for the best.

8 Month Update The G30 has worked well, but it may not work much longer. It has developed a banging/hammering sound when the vacuum goes into boost mode. I’ve had to disassemble the wheels several times to remove impacted hair. I find the unit works best if I clean the filter with a shot of 100psi compressed air after each outing. If I don’t clean the filter, it really doesn’t work at all. I’m hoping to make it to the one year mark, but the noises have me concerned. ————————————- I have a yellow lab that sheds like no other dog I've ever seen. And it's very course hair, so it can be very difficult to vacuum. It just inserts itself into carpet. The first floor of my house is mostly hard wood, and her hair clumps and turns into hair tumbleweeds. I was vacuuming once a week (for about an hour), but i needed a different solution because there was so much hair by the weekend that I had to empty the dust bin of my Shark Rocket Duo 3 times to get the floors and carpet clean. So I purchased the Eufy G30 Edge to see if it could help keep the floors free of hair so it wasn't so hard to clean up by the weekend. I've been using it about a month and thought I'd give my early impressions. Set-up of the G30 Edge is easy. Download the app, connect it to wifi, adjust a few setting and you're ready to go. The first few times out I had the suction set to "Standard" but found better results with it set to "Boost IQ". The G30 is able to pickup 95% of the hair on the hardwood floors and maybe 80% of the hair on (in?) the carpet. And that's good - every bit as good as the results with the Rocket. However, with that said, the G30 leaves large hair clumps in it's wake. I believe that the brush gets overwhelmed by the volume of hair and as the G30 makes a turn, or transitions from hardwood to an area rug or carpet, it leaves the hair behind. I'm cleaning about 1,500 sq-ft of the 2,600 sq-ft first floor with the G30, and I'd say it will randomly leave 5 to 10 of these clumps behind. No big deal, it takes me about 2 minutes to grab these hair clumps with my Rocket. So I went from vacuuming an hour to a few minutes a week - I'd say that's a success. The battery life is good. According to the Eufy App, It takes nearly 3 hours for the G30 to make it's rounds on 1,500 sq-ft. It will return to the charger after about 90-100 minutes and then go back to where it left off to clean the remainder of the floor. I do note that the G30 can get a little lost after it completes the second round of cleaning. It will wander the perimeter of the house until it stumbles upon the charging station. This isn't a real concern...but it may leave a hair cluster or two behind. So if I notice it wandering, I'll pick it up and return it to its home. I have the G30 scheduled to clean three times a week - but I could probably make it every day. Every evening after use I empty the dust bin - which is usually packed full with hair and just a little dirt. That makes be believe that if you don't have pet hair to contend with, you'd probably only have to dump the bin a few times a month. I'm hoping that increasing the number of times I send the G30 out per week it will reduce the number of hair clusters left behind. The filter seems to hold on to dirt and hair, so it might be helpful to have a few of those on hand. Also, I remove the brush and clean that after each use...but I had to do that on the Rocket too. If you are just doing general clean-up, the brush may never have to come off your G30. So I'm happy with the results I get with the G30 Edge. I've gone from vacuuming an hour on the weekends to just a few minutes per week. And now I'm just doing spot cleaning. I think my situation is a worst-case scenario for any vacuum. We've currently own Dyson, Kenmore and Rocket vacuums - none work perfect. The Rocket gets used the most because it is light and easy to maneuver - and power brush works great on carpet. But the G30 makes my life easier.
- David A.2021-07-04Simply Amazing. Does a much better job than I thought it would!
We live in a three level house with each level being about 1000 square feet. We spend most of the time on the main (middle) level. We usually vacuum once a week, sometimes more but have a perpetual "dust bunny" problem... well, more like dust doggy, thanks to our furry little four legged critter. So, the usual ritual is to do a good vacuum job and spot clean the dust doggies as they appear in between. Against my wife's wishes, I started researching robotic vacuum's and settled on a few in the sub $300.00 range. I narrowed it down to the Anker RoboVac G30 Edge because not only did it have that updated navigation and mapping, but it also let me set up some restriction zones with the included magnetic strips. Now, we have a pretty cluttered open concept main level with couches, lounge chairs, end tables, etc as well as a 12' dining room table with 10 chairs which I thought would be a challenge. All of those chairs have felt pads on them which seem to suck up the fuzz all over our hardwood floor and are very frustrating to clean. Eufy was easy to set up and after letting her charge for several hours, she set out on her own to explore and clean the vast reaches of the main level of our home. We were mesmerized by her movements as she found her way around and under all of our furniture and negotiated all of the obstacles in her path. I watched as she got stuck in a few areas and took note to use the edge strips to block under the low end of our sofa as well as the included zip ties to secure some lamp cords. After she finished, she had mapped out 965 square feet with uncanny accuracy. She managed to clean areas I usually miss with our trusty Dyson DC10 Animal - including under our bed (yeah, yuck) where our dog often sleeps. But one of the amazing things we noticed was that her side brush cleans all the fuzzies off the felt furniture pads as she navigates her way around them. That alone made my wife happy about the purchase. If you are OCD about having perfectly straight "vacuum lines", this robotic vacuum is for you. It is amazing to see the near perfect patterns she plots out on the carpet when she navigates through our bedrooms. It is art in its most basic form. We have the schedule set for it to run on Monday, Wednesday and Friday and sometimes will use the app on the weekend to tell her to go out and clean. Since my wife works from home, she was concerned that the noise would distract her while she is working but Eufy is whisper quiet as she works. The only drawback, and this has nothing to do with the device is that our crazy dog loves to be vacuumed when I clean the house. She would follow me around and sit near me until I would take the rotating head off the dyson, put on the brush and vacuum her off.... well, it is an "animal vac" afterall. Now she just sadly follows Eufy around waiting to have her loose fur sucked off.
- J. Charles2021-02-19Great vacuum plus room mapping. Well-designed, and a great value compared to Shark Ion
I'm very happy with the EufyHome G30 Edge. This is our 2nd robot vacuum, the first being a Shark Ion. Compared to the Shark, this robovac is so much quieter. The Shark Ion was very loud, to the point where it gets annoying having it run for 90 minutes. The Eufy G30 is not at all like this, and can be running while watching TV, etc. When it goes under the bed/sofa, sometimes I can't even hear it and wonder if it's still running... it is. The slim profile is a welcome feature compared to the Shark Ion. It easily fits under the bed, the sofa, chairs, etc. As long as there is about 2 inches of clearance, it should find its way. It also has Smart Navigation 2.0, which allows it to map your floor plan and work its way in horizontal rows until it has fully mapped the entire floor plan, compared to the Shark Ion or other robovacs that use random navigation with bumper sensors. The Eufy G30 has bumper sensors, and if it bumps into an object it will turn, but only to the point where it can find its way back onto its horizontal path. It also has infrared sensors, and will generally avoid bumping into things at all. Rather, it will slow down as it approaches something, and work its way right to the edge of the object, and then turn. The bumper sensors are a 2nd line of defense in the case that the infrared sensors don't work (e.g. on dark items, which absorb infrared). We have white baseboards, which is does not bump into, but on a few dark-colored cabinets, it will bump into those before turning around. As for the room mapping, it does not "remember" the map from day to day. Each time it is a new map. It will remember the map until it has completed the map. In other words, if it runs out of battery before completing the map, it will return to home, recharge, and then restart itself, picking up where it left off (generally). I say generally, because SOMETIMES the map can get "off". It doesn't navigate via GPS or WiFi or anything like that. It seems to retain the map in its head and base its location on wheel movement. So if it gets stuck on something, the wheels may continue to spin even though it's not going anywhere, and then suddenly it thinks it's 3 feet from where it really is. This isn't common, but it can happen. You can see this using the map feature in the app (which is really cool). You'll see it struggle trying to get to where it thinks should be an open space, when really it might be next to a wall and it keeps turning and bumping, turning and bumping, trying to find a way around. Eventually it does, but the map at that point is all messed up. It's better to just pause it, pick it up, put it close to where it "thinks" it really is (putting it where the white dot is on the map) and then restarting it. Its alerts are generally all spoken out loud in English (or in your preferred language, if available) which is nice, compared to the Shark Ion, which just beeped and had flashing icons, so you constantly had to refer back to the manual to understand what they meant. The Eufy G30 says "resuming cleaning" or "I'm stuck" or whatever, and you can just go and do the needful. The app also mirrors the status at any given moment, and you can control it with the app, monitor the map (which is helpful to understand the most efficient cleaning pattern), set up schedules, etc. You can also control it with Alexa, which was very easy to set up. So one week in, I am amazed by the amount of stuff that it picks up, even after running it every day. Makes you wonder where all the dust comes from. A really nice product from Anker's Eufy brand. I have a number of Anker's audio products, power packs, and cables, and I've always been happy with the value, quality and support. So far, the Eufy G30 Edge seems to fit right in.
- electro2020-11-18Fantastic vacuum and fantastic support
First off, the customer service team at Anker does a phenominal job. This is my second Eufy robovac (I had the 11+ before this) and any time I've had issues -- even many months later -- they've always been super helpful in getting it resolved. Second and just as important, this is a great vacuum. I was happy with the 11+ as it kept my house clean, but it had some issues -- it was loud, it kept getting stuck, and it kept getting lost on the way back to charge and I'd have to search the house for it. The G30 fixed all of those issues. The mapping function works extremely well -- Eufy almost never gets lost when it's looking for the charging base, getting to it's charging base 95% of the time (compared to maybe 15% of the time for the 11+). They also made some changes to the program so that this unit almost never gets stuck (unless it goes over a pipe cleaner or something like that). The 11+ used to get stuck under my nightstand, under the dresser, in the bathroom, etc. I bought the G30 Edge version so I could tell it not to go there, but I haven't actually used the magnetic strips yet as it doesn't actually get stuck. The lower profile is also great, since it can get under my couch now -- no more dust bunnies! And of course it's much quieter than before, which is much nicer now that we're stuck at home all the time. Overall this is a fantastic vacuum. There are a few super minor nitpicks -- the roller brush is kind of a pain to clean (the old version you could remove the edges to get hair off, this one you have to go in with a knife to cut it), but overall it's a great deal and when they come out with the next generation I'm sure I'll stay current. Thanks for keeping my house clean Eufy!
- T. H. Murray2021-11-28It works but more was anticipated
I always do my research when making any purchase like this; appliance. After reading Consumer Reports reviews and online reviews felt this Eufy G30 Edge was the best product, especially at $199 on a Black Friday sale. One of the descriptions for this unit indicates "The Right Way to Clean. The Path Tracking Sensor ensures that G30 Edge adapts to changes of surface while remaining on the most efficient route to clean each room. From carpet to hard-floor the right path is always taken." However, this thing had no real pattern flow it followed. Did not adapt well. In some areas it did complete lines from wall to wall. In other rooms it would start in lines, however, when it would bump into a piece of furniture, like a leg, it would take on a path to go around the leg but then take on a slightly different path. Because it gets off track some open spots in one room were never cleaned, area about 3' x 3'. The mapping, I agree with others, not a great effective or accurate mapping of my rooms. It gets most of it correct but not 100% accurate. Some of this might be because this is the first time using. Hopefully as it learns the floor plan it will get better. It covered 452 sq ft in 56 minutes. Which means if it is supposed to return to charger when it drops to 80% battery we should get an hour run for each cleaning section. Based on area of our home we want cleaned it should take 2 to 3 attempts or hours to cleaning with charging time in-between. Not sure about charging time but will find out. Two times the unit ended up getting stuck; first time, unit was covering a mid plush carpet, it rolled over a floor air vent and got stuck. Second time, in my home office it rolled under a recliner chair which has about a 4 inch clearance at the front but only 2 or so inches in the back. As the chair angle slopes the unit got stuck going underneath towards the back and I had to pull it out. In both cases when I pulled the unit out from being stuck and placed the unit away from the "stuck" area, about a foot or so away and the unit acted like it did not know where it was. It ended up cleaning an area already covered for a few minutes and the rolled away from the area cleaning into a new area. All in all, initially, I am not as impressed as the marketing tends to sell you on, but that is typically their job, make things better, bigger, smarter than it really is, right? It works from a general sense, but I wish it would worked a little better. If you can get it for the black Friday special price it is probably a decent purchase, but I would never pay the full $350 price tag on this unit. One thing mention, again a marketing pitch, "Anti-Collision Sensor 9 anti-collision, infrared sensors help RoboVac to avoid bumping into obstacles so it can clean non-stop without extra help from you." It bumps into everything. It actually bumps into the wall, a piece of furniture or whatever, then it will hug that wall or other item and will continually move along the wall and bump it, turn out, bump again, turn out, etc... as if it is trying to learn the floor area. However, it never turns away prior to bumping. I give it a 2 only because it does clean and my wife and I don't have to. At least for all the little things. It still misses a few little things if they are too close to a wall. It also missed picking up a piece of 2-3 inch string on the carpet. I have it set to the strongest suction level and it still missed the string and a few other small pieces of lint or other items in the carpet that were easy to see. Update: the past two times we have used it, the thing wants to not go in straight lines in a room. It has determined now where all walls are, but to go back and forth from one wall then straight across to the other wall it goes on a diagonal. So by the time it goes across a room approximately 13 feet wide, it typically is off by about 8 to 10 inches, haven't actually measured, but no straight lines. One positive, we have found that with each cleaning in the house it picks up quite a bit of dust and things on the floor. Dec 29, 2021 - Update: Dropping rating to a 1. Would probably give it a 0 (zero) or negative if I could, but as I have observed it additional times as well as reading other reviews, it appears this is not as great of a machine as you would expect from the marketing/advertising they provide. It basically does not retrace old patterns in rooms. As mentioned before once it has learned our rooms and layout multiple times now you would think it would know the rooms and working in straight lines. It does anything but work in straight lines or previous patterns. In fact see attached as to what it did while attempting to clean a simple hallway area today. It would not cross over the entire hall area from wall to wall, and seemed to be lost in the way it behaved. This machine needs a big overhaul on the digital or gps or memory functions, or maybe all three. About the only thing it does really well, is that it announces when it is about to clean and when it is heading home to charge. Not a single map has been the same, and as you look at the maps you can see how the hallways and rooms don't align the same from map to map. Although this was a great price for BlackFriday, down from $350 to $199, there is no real value in any sale if the product doesn't work as designed and marketed to work. I would recommend spending a little more or find one that does the job that you intend it to do upon purchase, regardless of the prices you pay, $150 or $700, there has to be better ones than this. Another bad thing about this as well, is that Consumer Reports rates this model and name brand as one of the better robot vacuums. Will need to start reconsidering what I read on CR.
- Chris2322022-01-30An OK budget vacuum option (short test, in-depth results)
-------UPDATE 2/10----------- Returned this and purchased the X8 model (a MASSIVE improvement). Reasons for the return: the vacuum can't climb a medium pile carpet due to the low clearance of the front bump sensor. It tries and pushes the bump sensor, stopping the vac. Then it sees there's nothing in the way and tries again. It also has developed a persistent clicking noise from the brush that is due to how the brush end fits into the brush drive motor. It's a sloppy fit and the brush will randomly start clicking and buzzing during normal use. Poor design. Probably not an issue if your whole house is carpeted. Compared with the X8, the suction on this model is lacking. The X8 brush gets a ton more hair sucked into the container and less stuck in the roller. The G30 has less suction and I think causes more hair to get wrapped up in the roller since it doesn't get sucked back into the container. ------------------------- Pros: Excellent navigation Quiet Good runtime Google integration works Cons: Roller brush can get tangled with hair and can cause clicking or grinding noise Noisy when going over transition strips or carpet edges Bumps into objects (not walls) Mapping is not permanent. -------------------------- Overall, this is a great value for the sale price that I purchased this at (one hundred off the listed price on Amazon). -------------------------- First, the good points, which I think outweigh the bad points so far. I've had this unit for a few days and have been testing it pretty thoroughly. The navigation is excellent. The vac will attempt to vacuum in a back and forth grid or line pattern as advertised. When it encounters objects, it will work around those objects and then return to the original grid pattern. This is much better than other models that randomly run around the house with the goal of eventually getting everything clean. It does not bump into walls full force. It can see walls and will slow down and gently tap the wall before switching directions. The vac navigates its way through and around table and chair legs, shoes, and other obstacles, remembering where it has already been (presumably by using the mapping feature). It seems to only need a few inches of space between objects (like chair legs) to be able to get in there and clean and rarely gets stuck in those areas. It also is able to work around some spots that are troublesome in one direction, but ok in other directions. For example, there is a transition strip from one floor type to another that is rather high and it won't drive directly up over the transition. It tries a couple of times, then it approaches it from a slight angle and is able to cross the transition. Then it returns to the area it couldn't cross before and cleans it with no problem. The mapping feature is nice to see on the app but it is not perfect (more below). The unit is quiet enough and you can choose to let it automatically pick suction speed or pick one of three speeds to set manually. The trade-off is that the "standard" mode doesn't seem powerful enough, although it is quiet. The runtime appears to be as advertised, which is around 60 minutes on BoostIQ mode (variable suction power). Also, the BoostIQ mode seems to work as it should, increasing suction on carpet and decreasing it on bare floors. This device is easily added to Google Home by linking the eufy account to Google. Then you can add the device to the home and simply tell google to have robovac (or whatever you name it) start cleaning and/or go home. Spot cleaning works as advertised as does the magnetic strips to keep the vac from going in certain areas. -------------------------- Now for the issues I have encountered. The roller brush will get tangled with hair and will require cleaning. This is to be expected but on one occasion, after cleaning the brush and reinstalling it, the vac made a clicking / grinding noise while running. I had to take the brush out again and after reinstalling it, the noise didn't come back. This seems odd, considering the brush was cleaned and not tangled. I have read that if the brush bearing gets jammed with hair or dirt, it won't spin and the brush bearing cap can be worn out and cause even more noise. Something to be aware of. The roller brush is noisy when going over transition strips or edges. While the vac does not bump into walls full force, it does bump into objects like table legs and some furniture. It seems to do this on skinny things like table legs. It's not a hard bump but it definitely does not slow down like it does when it encounters a normal wall. Mapping is not permanent, meaning each time it starts cleaning it generates a new map. This means I can't manually stop the cleaning cycle and have it return to where it left off previously. The vac will start over and go in which ever direction it wants on the new cycle. Also, I think the map and navigation are linked together so if you happen to pick up the vac while it's cleaning and don't put it back in the exact same spot, pointing the same direction, it will throw off the navigation and will probably be cleaning the same areas over again, or miss some areas entirely. The maps themselves are cool to look at in the app but beyond that not of much use. You can't select a spot on the map and have the unit go clean that area and if you do happen to pick up the unit and move it while it's cleaning, the visual map in the app won't be accurate at all. Not a huge problem but something to be aware of.
