Been my faithful companion on the ambulance for about 4 years now in a busy 911 service. I like it because I can hear breath sounds, blood pressures, and heart tones just fine. I noticed a large difference in this vs the lightweight s.e. But I did not notice a huge difference between cardiology 3 vs this one (I’ve owned all the above at one point) I’m not a pulmonologist nor am I a cardiologist so to me it does not matter as much to me to be able to diagnose heart murmurs/friction rubs/etc like you can on a cardiology 3 or higher. I have no problem hearing lung sounds/heart tones and what the general type of sound I am hearing. Works fine on kids too despite not having a pediatric side. Very effective, pretty rugged (I have had to replace the diaphragm kit once or twice but that’s a relatively expected complication for me with the abuse mine gets) no cracks in the tubing so far and if you lose this stethoscope it’s not as expensive as losing a cardiology 3, etc.
- Cynical EMT2010-12-21A great set of ears!
As an EMT, there is an added challenge when it comes to scopes. Sound quality of scopes is definitely important, but even more so when you are working in a loud environment. Listening for BP and lung sounds in the back of a diesel truck is difficult at best. A good scope is extremely important. The Master Classic II scope is by far the best scope I have used for this purpose. The amplification is extremely good, single tube design eliminates the "static" of the tubes rubbing together, and the ear pieces do a great job of blocking out ambient noise. The scope feels very well constructed, and bell has a good weight to it, which makes it easier to handle. Not to mention, that the black on black design just looks slick. As someone mentioned, the tubing is a bit tacky, but that is definitely not something worth taking a star off for. The next time my scope gets lost or "borrowed", I will definitely get myself another one of these.
- Justin Baylosis2016-04-21terrific stethoscope for the price!
I had the Littmann lightweight since nursing school and now going on 7 years. Although it's done a solid job for me up until now, I needed the upgrade. I found it difficult at times to hear with this stethoscope, unless the wheezing or crackles were loud and prominent. I am an RN in an emergency department and not only do I want to be able to complete lung sound assessments on my patients, whether it be to confirm ET tube placement or just wanting to know if someone is wheezing and having an asthma attack. The stethoscope itself looks sleek in its all black, and what I actually like about it is that the tube isn't as slick as my Littman lightweight, so it doesn't easily slip off my neck. for $100 its an incredible value as not only is it cheaper here as compared to AllHeart or Scrubs and Beyond, but if you have Prime, for it to come in 2-3 days is awesome!
- Amazon Customer2017-05-24Greatly audible!!
I previously used the cardiology STC for over 10 years. It was good working but finally broken. Limb was cracked out. I tried to find out diaphragm assembly only, but I couldn't. So I decided to purchase new one. I am not a cardiologist but a nephrologist. Actually, almost physician. I don't need extreme stethoscope. By a lot of reviews, I decided MasterClassic II brack edition. Beyond expectation, it does work well. I can hear S3, S4 as well as heart murmurs. Black color is cool! In addition, since it is smaller than STC, I can well fit it for thin elderly persons. Simultaneously, I could find diaphragm assembly. So when it will be broken, I will not have to buy new expensive stethoscope. The diaphragm also fits cardiology III, Cardiology II.S.E, Classic II.S.E.
- Teresa Manues2021-09-03You have to pay shipping to return this product!
The most important thing to know if you want to return it to buy different one you have to pay for returning the product. I'm disappointed in Amazon because they always have free returns. The product is ok, it works well but is heavier than the one I had for the last 25 years. It's just cheaper to buy a new one than to buy parts to fix another. I bought ear pieces a few years ago and they were $18 which I thought was kinda expensive. But take a chance, just letting you know you will have to pay for return from this seller!

I’m a cardio tech, and I often have to perform stress tests on my patients. Whenever I need to do a manual BP this stethoscope never fails. Even with the audible stomping of the patients feet, the treadmill whirring, and the MD trying to talk to me at the same time, I can clearly hear their heartbeat. Not sure how it’d do with other things, but I’m pretty impressed for what I need it for.
- Jimmmmmmm2012-11-19As good as a Master Cardiology
I've owned several Littmann Master Cardiology stethoscopes over the years (for some reason Littmann's tend to develop Peyronie's disease, and then crack after a few years). I've spent many years in cardiology and critical care and became a bit of a snob about Master Cardiology scopes. I bought the Master Classic because it was cheaper and much lighter. I moved into family practice and didn't think I needed a cardiology scope anymore anyway. I have been very surprised by the resolution and sensitivity. It can pick up grade I murmurs and s3/s4s no problem. I honestly think it's the best scope I've ever owned. A cardiology scopes claim to fame is that they are dual lumen, but if you think about it, both lumens are funneled into a chest piece with one arpeture anyway. There's only one chest piece so you won't get stereo sound no matter how great the tubing is. Almost half the price and the same resolution. Heck, with the single diaphragm the Master Classic even looks like a Master Cardiology to others unless they study it really close.
- DanTheMan2011-12-19As good as most pros will ever need
I'm an RN and a musician, so my review may be a little different than others. I used to use and still have the Cardiology III--not a bad stethoscope either, but it was taken by accident (and later returned). I had to find a new one quickly. It was like being a carpenter w/o a hammer. I wanted to spend as little as possible and be able to hear in great detail what is going on with my patients' hearts/lungs/bowels. My hearing is technically in the 'excellent' category if the audiograms are correct, and I have to say that this stethoscope surprised me. It doesn't feel as heavy as my cardiology III, and the tubing is not as rugged, but I could hear at least as well what was going on with my patients as I could with my old one. I actually think it's a little better. I tried this one, the Master Cardiology, Classic II, and of course my old Cardio III again since it's been returned and well, I decided to keep this one. Not only does it pick up heart/lungs sounds just as well, but the ergonomics of it just feel the most natural by far. The diaphragm doesn't have any moving parts so you always know you are using it correctly without having to tap the diaphragm and annoying your ears--my ears get annoyed easily. It's also lighter and fits in my holster(something else I'd recommend!) like it was made for it. Now maybe if you are a cardiologist, the Master Cardiology or Cardiology III might be better to pick up some fairly subtle sounds that are beyond my training to depict, but this one fits me just right and I highly recommend it for any nurse and most, if not all, MDs. My weapon of choice.
- Chris2014-05-03My Second!
My previous Master Classic II Stethoscope started to crack along the tubing, presumably from hanging it from my neck. It was thirteen years old! This model was suggested to me way back then by many, many instructors and classmates. It has never let me down. After researching the cost for repair, the cost for a new replacement was comparable (unfortunately, I had just replaced the diaphragm and the earpieces). After more than ten years of dutiful service (bouncing around in the back of ambulances, and in busy Emergency Departments) from my previous Master Classic II Stethoscope, I purchased another without hesitation. And now I have the all-black model I've had my eyes on for years! I was initially worried about scratching and damage to the black plating, as I've have found with other black anodized items that wear and scratch easily. However, one month of hard use and abuse after my purchase, the stethoscope still looks brand new! I look forward to purchasing my third Master Classic II in another 10+ years.
- Michael_Mc2020-08-24Nurse wife says Littmann brand is the best and this model her preference
Purchased these for my wife who had one that was identical. Over the years she's had parts replaced. She was finally forced to replace the entire stethoscope. Speaks well of this model and brand. After all these years she wanted the same model. She has been a nurse for over 40 years and like most nurses uses her stethoscope multiple times daily. She claims the Littmann brand is the best. She says the sound transmission of this stethoscope is the best. Even with her slight hearing loss she has no problem hearing with these.
