- Desert Dweller2024-07-09Work perfectly in my Big Berkey, water tastes just like the (unavailable) Black Berkey filters!
Needed to replace my black Berkey filters in my Big Berkey. Can't get the Berkey filters anymore, so tried these. The flow is just like new, and the water tastes just like it did when my Berkey filters were new. Priming was easy and everything you need to prime and test is in the box (red dye and blue primer). I checked out the online list of what is filtered out and it's quite extensive. They don't claim to filter bacteria but from what I read online, that's what got Berkey into trouble with the EPA. I like the idea of replacing once per year since some contaminants are reduced to a greater extent than others. Plus it's priced attractively compared to Berkey. Seems reasonable for something as important as my drinking water. Good job Boroux, five stars!
- Spider Monkey2024-06-17I switched from Berkey to Boroux
I switched from Black Berkey filters to BOROUX foundation filters for my Big Berkey system, and I'm beyond impressed. These BOROUX filters fit perfectly and the water tastes amazing. They remove a ton of contaminants and last a long time—up to 12,000 gallons per pair! The installation was super easy, and BOROUX's customer service is top-notch with a 60-day trial and a one-year warranty. If you're thinking about upgrading your water filtration, I highly recommend giving Boroux a try. Totally worth it! Will update review after I’ve used for a while!
- Doug M.2024-07-04Premium Water Filtration w/Certified, Published Test Results to Prove It. From a Premium Company.
Not only is the Boroux Legacy Water Filter system a premium filtering system, it is offered by a premium American Small Business. Every aspect of the filtering system, from the quality of the physical components, associated accessories, the detailed setup documentation, along with the backbone of their system, the Foundation Filters, shows an attention to detail rarely found in this day and age. The pride Boroux takes in their products is tangible as soon as you begin unpacking the system and carries through the entire setup process. A process Boroux makes clear that want you to get right and are there to support you doing it. I was considering an RO filtering system but was not comfortable with the amount of waste water they produce; even the most efficient systems waste 25% of the water taken in. On the other hand, where do you find that efficacy in water filtration? As it turns out, you find it at Boroux. How much water does their Legacy Filtering system waste? None. Besides, I find an elegant simplicity to a system that relies solely on gravity. Notwithstanding the intriguing presence of the Boroux water tanks themselves; they stand as a lustrous monolith of quality craftsmanship and design. Even the solid stainless spigot has been tested and certified to be lead free. However, the true significance lies in just how efficacious are their Foundation filters; the business end of the system that is only matched by Boroux’s transparency and their ongoing testing in the pursuit of purer water. Every claim that Boroux makes, they back up with certified, dated lab test results, made available to anyone on their website. I read these reports; however, they are rarely available, especially from third-party sellers, usually marketing their product as a Berkey BB9-2 replacement. Boroux’s transparency is second to none and according to the available test results, neither are their Foundation filters. Moreover, they will work in any system, including Berkey’s, that will fit Berkey’s BB9-2 black filters. If you already own a system, the Boroux Foundation Filters will likely fit, but contact them first to make certain. The Boroux water tanks are stunning, but when it comes right down to it, it’s all about the filters. It’s Borouxs’ extraordinary Foundation Filters that provide the matrix around which the rest of the system is built. According to Boroux, each filter has an efficient lifespan of 6000 gallons of water. That means a system with four Foundation filters installed will effectively cleanse 24,000 gallons of water. We are two in our household, and we go through about 2-gallons per day of drinking water. Thus, a four-filter system will last 12,000 days, or almost 33 years. The cost for that quantity and duration? Under $500. Try to argue that’s not cost effective. Moreover, the Foundation Filters, based on certified, published test reports, exceed an NSF/ANSI 53 rating, along with removing lead, pesticides and forever chemicals. What is an NSF/ANSI 53 rating? It indicates that the filter in question can remove contaminants that are known to cause health related effects. Most of the inexpensive black replacement filters found on the market are not rated at all, but will claim a rating of 42 based on their own unpublished tests, indicating nothing more than that they make the drinking small and taste better, but will not remove health related contaminants; not all black filters are created equally. In addition, NSF states that all companies should provide a performance sheet indicating exactly which contaminants their filter will remove. Unlike the aforementioned aftermarket filters, Boroux does exactly that. I would suggest anyone considering their system to visit their website and read the plainly written performance data found there. It’s comforting; and it’s transparent. According to the well-worn, time-tested paradigm, the three most important components to basic human health and wellness are the quality of the air you breath, the quality of the water you drink and the quality of the nutrients you ingest. Boroux has you covered on one of those. Boroux is an American Small Business well worth supporting. They provide a cost-effective product that will have positive benefits for anyone’s health. Also of interest, found on their website, is the story of how they evolved into a water filtration company; they have the background and expertise. In my opinion, Boroux Foundation Filters provide water that is so pure as to be a health supplement.
- AC2024-07-03We love this whole system!
We got a Berkey Royale a few years ago, and recently upgraded to a Boroux Legend (LOVE it!). We used the old system at a family Christmas party last year for around 35 people, and found that the water filters a LOT faster when you have four filters instead of just two. Fortunately, we had two extras to add to the two we started off with. So shortly after we got the Legend we also got these extra filters. Having just two working would drive me crazy, knowing there could be two more going at the same time =) Possibly my favorite thing about Boroux filters is that they filter twice as much water as the ones we had before! And I like how hard they test them. We move from an area with some of the best water anywhere to an area with some of the worst, so a good filter is such a blessing because I like me some cold water. I also love the stem saver design. Anything that involved our old stems, from putting them in to someone moving the system, would make me cringe. I'm glad they thought about the stem saver design. Another tip, not directly about the filters but it will help you enjoy them more, is to get the stand. At our Christmas thing we had to position the entire system next to the edge of the counter so people could fit their cups underneath the spigot. With the stand, which is SOLID, has grippy non-marking feet, and has edges to keep the system secure, you don't have to have your spigot hanging over the floor and still fit your cups under to get water. I wouldn't want to be without it now. Knowing you have the tools for clean water is a nice feeling. Boroux is a tool for that and I'm grateful for it. Thank you for reading, I hope this was helpful.
- Sasha2024-07-02Great Product!
I like that these Boroux Foundation filters are a perfect fit for my Berkey Light water filter. I like that these come with good written instructions. It came with two priming tools. I tried the blue tool first because it looked like it would work best but it did not work for me because the water won't go with force into the filter and make it bead. I tried the second brown ring and it worked great. The ring type is the kind that I have used before. The brown ring works better because there is more pressure directly from the faucet into the filter to fill it up and make the water bead all over the filter. I like that the installation was easy. I filled the tank with tap water to completely cover the filters and they went to work quickly and filtered the water in a steady stream. After 2 hours, it had filtered about 32 cups out of 40 cups. I tested the filtered water for 19 parameters and it came out good and clean. The water tastes good. The price is high but they look high quality and are performing really well compared to previous ones that were a lot less expensive. I am very happy with this product.
- WRH2024-07-15Great quality.
Having used gravity water filters for many decades I wouldn't be without a couple of them. Naturally, I have used many different types and brands of filters over the years and these are among the best I've used so far. Slightly different design than the others but I see the differences as improvements. Rated for up to 12000 gallons of water (depending on water quality of course) these are capable of filtering nearly twice what the others do. Simply remove the filters every 4-6 months and using a sponge, scrub the outside of them to remove the crud bult up on the outside and put them back in to continue using. You will be amazed at the stuff the outer shell stops. You will see it when you clean them. You will know they are near the end of their lifespan when the water flow through the filters slows to the point where it takes all day (24 hours) to filter a couple of gallons. Yes, these are a little more expensive that the 'normal' inexpensive filters available but these are worth every penny. I have no reservations recommending these. The filtered water is outstanding.
- Icy Y.2024-07-06Filters More
We are using the Boroux filters with the old Berkey Royale stainless steel system, and have yet to switch to the Boroux Legacy stainless steel system, but the filters work great and are compatible with Berkey. Each filter cleans 6,000 gallons of water and filters more water than other cheaper brands or even previous versions. We are using 2 Boroux Foundation filters in the system and already notice a big difference compared to the old Berkey filters. The system is great if you live in an area with questionable water. The filters will remove any contaminants and does so better than any filter out there.
- Gabe Graumann2024-07-05Fits well, works well
I have to say, I love this brand. They include a tool to help prime the filter, however, it does not fit our kitchen sink (which is wide and has the spray/flow option with a gooseneck moveable nozzle). I have to go to the bathroom sink to make it fit Thankfully, our sink is deep enough for it to work. It would also work on a hose spigot, but not anything much larger.
- UnderdogMom2024-07-03the best replacement for Berkey filters
If you have a Berkey and are looking for REAL reliable filters, these are the ones. This company used to make the Berkey filters, now they have launched their own system (Boroux, which I have, which is AWESOME). These filters are tested and rated only for filtering municipal water. (Use at your own risk with well water or other water sources.) They work perfectly, fit perfectly in my Boroux system, have a very long lifespan, have even better stem protection than the Berkey filters. Allow some time to prime them using cold water; all equipment and instructions are included. Impeccably packaged. Trustworthy, clean water. Thank you, Boroux!
- LKF2024-06-15High Quality Gravity Filter elements
This is designed for wilderness/survivalist situations where water may be contaminated or otherwise not potable. The filters are designed to be used with standard gravity feed type stainless appliances which typically use two filters and collect the filtered product for use as needed. Obviously, it is difficult to comment upon whether the filtration is effective without lab testing the results and I have not done so. However these filters are well documented by reputable firms and are well made and without directly testing them myself, seem to be competent good performers. Note that the consequences for bad performance can be illness or even death as a result of contamination in your drinking water so it really is incumbent upon you to make certain that you are purchasing worthy and well tested filters and not simply relying upon seller's unsubstantiated statements or Amazon reviewers to make your decision. Note also that you are likely to be needing to use this under circumstances where it may not be possible to buy additional ones nor be aboe to contact the seller. Choose wisely.
