I'm a contractor, I bought this item to use to install some 6 inch wafer recessed lights in a shiplap ceiling at that I istalled for a client. The lights required a 6-1/8 th inch hole but the big box store where I got the lights from didn't carry a bimetal hole saw in that size, only the one for drywall. I decided to try this one and it worked perfectly, made a clean cut and didn't chew up the shiplap at all. The dust collection boot cough all the saw dust so I could see what I was doing and reduced the mess to almost zero. Awesome tool, highly recommended. Just one heads-up, make sure the locking nut for the arbor that pushes the two locking pins into the holes in the saw is secure and tight or the boot will unscrew the arbor and the pins will back out causing the arbor to get stuck in the saw. In a fairness, this happens with any hole saw kit if you're not paying attention. Enjoy!

I needed a hole size with these dimensions to cut some nice port holes in a series along a wall to install large cable grommets into for running cables between two rooms in a DIY recording study we are building for our friend, and this was a great kit to get. The hole saw seems like it is of great quality and that it will last years, which is not always the case when you get a hole saw kit like this, as I found out last year when I needed a 3" one. It is also great at cutting through both drywall and plywood. And the dust cup is excellent, feeling much sturdier than other ones I have used in the past, plus it has a nice metal insert around the hole in it, which is fantastic and means you can use it over and over without the hole wearing out. Great kit!

I actually have an adjustable version of this sheetrock cutter. I have used it extensively and like it. But it has a significant drawback. Being highly versatile the shell for catching the dust is pretty big - it has to fit around the cutter's widest setting. It can be more than I want to manage while up on a ladder. I do like that it has a nearly infinite number of width possibilities. And that is why at first I was reluctant to order this. I like to work with a little closer tolerances on my cutouts so the can inserts all will fit without having to worry about the hole being a little too large for the insert. Additionally, I have started using the recessed lighting that does not require a can, and on those you need to have the hole sized to their requirements. So the 5 1/2" gave me pause, since I often have gone with 5 1/4" or 5 3/8" for my cutouts. However, when this arrived and I saw it was a quality setup with a decent mandrel and pilot bit, that includes a spring for helping push the sheetrock disc out of the shield, it dawned on me that I have a great many different hole saws, and they all fit on this mandrel. If I don't like the 5 1/2" one I can spin on my 4", or 5 1/4" and it works just as well. And that brings me to the shield for catching the dust. I really like it. My current shield is a hard, clear plastic. It does not flex, at all. And the clear aspect of it is important. You want to be able to look up from below and see where your pilot bit is going to start. You do not want to have to lean to the side to try to center it. This shield is well designed in that the sides are flexible and translucent, but the bottom, through which you will be looking, is clear. And I really like that it extends and makes contact with the ceiling prior to any dust being produced. A really well-thought-out hole saw and shield at a really good price. The mandrel and hole saw are worth the price even without the shield.
- Nate D.2024-06-30Sturdy hole saw blade for drywall or wood, dust bowl a very appreciated addition.
The base of the hole saw is made from thick gauge metal that can hold up to the force placed on the blade from cutting wood as well as drywall. The blade itself is made from a thinner gauge of metal to reduce the amount of material that must be removed. The arbor includes retaining pins to secure the disc to the drill, so it can't spin off when the drill is stopped. It also includes a removable drill bit (the kit has a replacement bit). The dust bowl has two features that make it much better then drilling a hole in the bottom of a bucket to catch the dust. First, the sides are flexible, so they keep a tight seal on the ceiling during the entire drill operation. Also, the flexible side can be moved out of the way to allow line of sight for aligning the drill. Second, the hole in the dust bowl includes a bearing that allows the drill to spin freely while the bowl remains stationary. As an aside, I recently learned a lesson in how to deal with binding when using a large diameter hole saw. Do not use the drill setting on the chuck, instead set the clutch to it's highest setting. Eventually the blade will bind, but when it does the clutch will let loose and prevent tooth damage on the hole saw blade (along with not wrenching your arm).

The title says it all. This kit is awesome!!! We are renovating our interior lighting and the first couple of cuts without the dust bowl led to a hard stop! Aside from the dangers of inhaling the particulate matter from the drywall, getting it in your eyes even with safety glasses is a show stopper. This kit cuts a perfect hole and captures the vast majority of the dust generated during the process. My unscientific estimate is less than 3% percent of the dust gets past the dust bowl. It is probably less when I go slow. The dust bowl has a tight fit around the drill shank. It looks like the seal around the shank is actually a type of bearing which reduces the amount of friction and keeps dust from leaking. The hole saw cuts through the dry wall like a hot knife through butter. We are going to be installing some smaller diameter lights and the Vikiton hole saw kit with dust bowl will get the job! Highly recommend this kit! Good quality! Protect your eyes and lungs.
- Jeremiah2024-07-03Strong heavy duty metal bit and a great overall product
Being able to capture the dust and debris while cutting a hole in a ceiling is a great idea. So many times I wish I would have had this tool. Suffering from holding a vacuum or getting dust in my eyes, now I can drill more confidently. The hole saw bit itself is made from heavy duty metal and should provide long lasting cutting results. It comes with two center bits and an interchangeable mandrel. The accordion style debris cup seems durable but the lid appears to flex a lot and I'm worried might be the tool's failing point in the future (minus one star). Even if the debris cup or lid fails, I still have a high quality hole saw kit and that makes it all worth it. I'll be using this hole saw kit to install some flush mount LED lights in my garage (24 of them). I did some test cuts in different materials and found that it cuts very well. Overall I love this hole saw kit and I can't wait to get my lights installed.
- Bobby2024-07-10Solid Metal, Collapsible Dust Catcher, Sharp, Great Product!
This Hole Saw was well thought out. Of course, the saw is very large and I probably won't use it real often but when I need a hole saw this large I wanted a good quality saw. The blades on this saw are very sharp. There is a spring installed on the arbor to help push the piece being cut out of the hole (who thought of this?). The metal is solid, has no give and cuts cleanly. The collapsable dust collector cup is genius. Not having sheetrock dust fall into my eyes as I cut the hole has been a treat. I have used the hole saw to cut sheetrock for installing recessed lights. I haven't tried cutting any other material but believe this blade is strong enough to endure any material I need a hole in. I am happy to recommend this hole saw and will be ordering from this company in the future. 10 Stars!!

Review by Mary & Georges: This review is for the VIKITON "6.25 Hole Saw for Recessed Lights Can Lights, 6 1/4" Hole Saw Dust Bowl". Mary's review: This was packaged very well & loved that it came with a dust catcher, less clean-up after my husband creates holes in the ceiling. This will make it easier for my husband to install the recessed lighting I've been wanting. We got 2 sizes, the 5.5" & the 6.25" hole saws, giving us options on the size of canned lights to use. The bonus of getting 2 sizes, we now have 2 of the dust bowls, always nice to have a back-up. Georges' review: I was genuinely pleased with this product. The removable locking assembly is a great idea and makes for easy storage. The drill bit teeth performed as expected and made a large drywall cut very quickly.
- RC2024-07-10Makes the process simple
These hole saws significantly reduce the risk of error when installing can lights. Whether new construction or retrofit, they eliminated the 'wandering' when cutting the hole. Concentricity is important, as is repeatability and this tool accessory hits the bullseye. Measure placement (twice!) and then simply drill/cut through the substrate for proper can light placement, Very handy for the newer ultra thin can lights that are insulation rated and merely grip onto the drywall. The plastic dust catcher helps keep dust down, but you'll need to decide if they impair your visibility of the cut. 4 stars since I thought it was a little heavy.
- Herb Pharm2024-06-27Hole saw with Dust bowl
I really have no real use for a 4 1/2" hole saw but the Dust Bowl is just the ticket for My next Project. We are going to be selling our home in the next couple months and I have a bunch of holes from Shelving and Pictures hung on the wall. That I will have to patch using patching compound to fix all these holes in the Drywall. Instead of sanding and then having to clean tons of dust from every surface I now have a Dust Bowl that I can fit on my Drill and using a small disk sander attachment I can fix all these wall issues and not have to worry about drywall dust everywhere. The attachment mechanism is quite robust and the actual hole saw and drill bit seem really solid and well made. Should be a great product even though I won't be using as it was intended to be used.
