    Built very well!

This lift is very well built. All cables are coated wire, hardware is adequate for the job and the lift itself is heavy duty. Installation was straight forward, just follow the directions which are easy to read and well organized. The template does take two people to get it right and square. I installed mine in the garage that is about 10 feet 6 inches tall. The lift lowers down to hip height, so very easy to get items on and off. The crank is a bit high, but I found that a 5/16 socket works well and much faster than hand cranking it. Have a 10 and 13mm socket for installation, it will save you time. The drill bit is a 13/64 needed for drilling holes for the lag bolts. The only problem we experienced is one end is about 1 inch lower than the other when fully extended and the weight is on the black cables. I show this in the video. I plan on fixing this by using longer eye bolts so that I have enough thread to lower this one side. I will have to cut the one that came with it and use hardware I have to reattach, but I am confident I can make this work.

    It does work, kind of.

I bought this product to hang from the ceiling joists of my garage. I use it to store a large Curt hitch carrier and a large Yakima four bike carrier. Pros. It does work. Cons. It is virtually impossible to get it level. The hanging template for installation is hard to use, its main drawback being that it is too flimsy. I can see how the template would work better for a dry-walled ceiling where you can tape it more securely. It does not work well for an open joist ceiling. You will end up stapling or screwing it in place and it won't quit be right--a little sag. The instructions say that your joists must be 48 inches on center. Mine are but the platform is not level. I would say it has close to a three to four inch list side to side. It seems that the main problem with leveling is how the cords actually wrap around the axle and that on an open joist ceiling it is hard to get the template perfect. I would work better is there were guides for the cords when they wrap around the axle and the template was able to be securely fastened and less flimsy. The other problem is the mesh platform. It could be heavier duty, but works. I put OSB on mine to firm it up a bit. Like I said, it works, kind of. Would I recommend it. Yes, but with caveats. For what I use mine for, the price was right and I have a convenient place to store two very bulky items, and for that I can ignore the annoyances. An added note: you will want a drill to move it up and down. Hand cranking it takes a while.

Great way to store more in the garage

This product is the real deal. It is sturdy and holds quite a few bins or whatever else you want to put on it. I really like this to get storage in the area of my garage I park my motorcycles. Can move the bikes out drop this thing down, then pull it up and park the bikes underneath. Could work the same way for cars or sedans.

Easy to use, moderate to install.

The template is needed and appreciated for this install, but it will take two people to put it up. Once the exact center of both ceiling joists are located, make sure you draw a line, or snap with chalk-line, well beyond the width of the template. This will help position the template and you may need to allow for deviation to ensure the lag bolts go into the center of the wood, depending on how accurate the ceiling was constructed. Anothe tip is to put only one screw into each of the brackets, then use a long straightedge to ensure they are mounted square to each other before installing the remaining screws. Generally, once the brackets are mounted, it is very easy to finish the install. Video shows using a power drill. But if the manufacturer included a tool bit for using your impact wrench instead of the hand crack, that would make this a whole lot faster to raise and lower. One small nuisance is that the plastic ends on the lower cross bars do not fit tight. In fact, all 4 of them popped out and had to be taped in place.

Great metal rack, despite the metal mesh

This garage lifting metal rack is very nice and exactly as described. It is nice to have a video to go by for instructions as well. As others have said, do not over tighten the bolts that attach the wire shelf to the frame. One draw back is the wire mesh shelf. It is a little on the flimsy side. If you are not maxing out the weight limit, a thin piece of luan plywood cut to fit would be a great addition on top of this wire shelf. It is nice to have a paper template to mark the holes and aide in lining up with the ceiling joist. I would also put like a 1x4 along said joist to mount the hanging brackets to give a more secure attachment to ceiling, though not required by any means.

    Good for low ceilings.

Suitable for ceiling heights of LESS than 9 feet. This is important for a couple reasons. First, the shelf will be too high off the ground, even when lowered fully. Also, the rod to turn the gearbox will be too short in high ceiling applications. My ceiling height is about 12.5 feet, so this isn’t ideal for me. Thats my fault though, for not reading the fine print. An 8’ ceiling would be good, in terms of cable length and lifting rod length, but you’ll be limited to only a few feet of storage height, unless you want to duck under the shelf. I also noticed that the wire shelf will distort when tightening the little J-hooks to the braces. During assembly, you’ll want to keep tightening, but don’t do it. In addition, make sure your ceiling is flat. This will not work well on a pitched roof. The system does not allow for any adjustments beyond 1/2” or so. Works great with a power drill. Just go slowly, even though it’s tempting to spin it fast. Works well. The mounting template is annoying. It’s made of thick cardboard, and is huge. It’s bulky and anlmost impossible to manage the template by yourself - so bring a buddy. When installing through drywall, be careful not to over tighten the lag bolts securing the pulley brackets to the ceiling, it will smoosh the drywall.

    Quality!

Super easy to install especially with the provided template. All the materials seem to be of great quality and it support a good amount of weight. Its also very easy to bring it up and down as needed and my favorite thing is that it works with low ceilings!

    Top Quality product

This is a top quality product that is great once you have it installed. Installation can be done alone but it is so much easier with 2 people. Had my wife help in a pinch as it is critical to find all the studs. I did not have too much of a problem because I have a crawl space above my garage. Instructions are very good and follow them, it calls for specific sizes of holes and just get really close or drill few thou under but would not recommend larger holes. The template is handy but that does take 2 people to lay out. This can hold lot's of product, so if you are going to load it up do not cheap out on the mounting. All the brackets and cables are high quality and engineered to stay safely in place. Only down side can be raising and lowering can be a very slow process, but it stay where you put it.

    Very heavy duty!

Great heavy duty lifting rack. Assembly was somewhat simple but this can definitely hold a ton of stuff and helps with the organization.
