Definitely was worth the money! Got it for my dad and he uses it all of the time for everything!
- EMH2024-06-19Hefty suction and versatility distinguish this DIY laser.
BEST THING ABOUT IT: strong suction ADDITIONAL LIKES: bright laser, dust collection, rechargeable battery, mounting bracket, extra gasket WORST THING ABOUT IT: incomplete instructions ADDITIONAL DISLIKES/CONCERNS: laser projects in only one direction, cannot use disposable 1.5 volt batteries WARRANTY: One year CATEGORICAL GRADING Presentation/Packaging: A Quality/Craftsmanship/Materials: A Functionality/Utility/Versatility: A Instructions/Ease-of-Use/Comfort: B Marketing vs Reality: B COMMENTS : This is an impressive ‘gadget’. It can be secured to most any non-porous wall by an onboard suction pump that forms a seal inside a 5/16” deep foam gasket. Once adhered, one can shoot a single bright laser line in one of any four directions, depending on its orientation. The laser really is very bright. I did not have 130 foot span in which to test it, but it easily shot across the ~70 feet of the shop. However, I would not trust a beam thrown that far without confirming the alignment down-beam with a hand level or tape just to be sure. Additionally, it comes with a laser mounting bracket to which one can attach a multi-plane laser (not included) for additional laser work. The suction is said to be strong enough to support more than 10 pounds but for added assurance it possesses an anti-fall alarm if it perceives the adherence is insufficient for the load. It easily supported the 2-plane laser I attached to the mount. The suction unit is equipped with both a vertical and horizontal levels to ensure proper alignment. Alternatively, you may exchange the mounting bracket with a dust collection attachment to drill a hole and catch the debris while identifying the stud line below (however, it is not a stud locator). Personally, I would prefer the use of disposable batteries so you can continue use when the existing battery dies by immediately replacing it, but I understand the ecologic benefit of being able to recharge the built in battery. NOTE: Be sure to check under the plastic tray for the extra foam gasket! MOST SUITABLE FOR: DIY alignment of cabinets or frames IS IT WORTH IT?: ~$70 may at first glance appear pricey, but this unit offers many advantages not generally found at this price point, especially the brightness of the laser and the ability to attach it to flat or even textured surfaces. *PRECISE RATING: 5 RECOMMENDATION: This is an excellent DIY laser for aligning anything you wish to hang on any wall with a bright beam and an amazing suction ability. I can highly recommend it. (As always, I will report back if there are any durability issues with additional use.) PHOTO INFO (photos are loaded in order, but may be rearranged when finally posted): 1) Item boxed 2) Contents as shipped 3) Contents unboxed 4) Mounting the dust collector (sliding it on) 5) Mounting the mounting bracket (sliding it on) 6) With bracket attached, illustrating levels and battery indicator 7) Brushes in dust collector 8) Suction adhered device on a textured surface illustrating suction indicator (right row of lights) and vertical beam, dust collector in place 9) XCool device with no attachments in horizontal position 10) Device adhered to textured wall holding a separate laser device with its laser set in horizontal position On a personal note, I try to cover everything I think one might like to know about each product, especially something not covered in the listing. So, I hope you found something informative and useful in this review. Thank you for taking the time to read it. Good luck with your decision. *Rating scale: 5 = definitely buy again, happy to have it (exceptional in several characteristics,) 4 = probably buy again (decent job of doing what I need, excels in one or two characteristics) 3 = perhaps buy again after researching options (functions OK, looks OK, decent quality, average life expectancy but no outstanding characteristics) (in other words, average) 2 = would not buy again (low end/below average merchandise and/or service, but not totally worthless) 1 = sorry I bought it the first time (poor performance in several characteristics, no redeeming characteristics)

I've tested maybe half a dozen laser levels over the past year or so, most of them significantly more expensive than this one, and while this is far from the best I feel it's perhaps the most universally useful level I've tested so far, simply because it's affordable enough that pretty much everyone with a passing interest in DIY can justify the cost. Last week I had to move into a new apartment on extreeeeeemely short notice - two days - and my anger at the sudden move was compounded by the fact that I had to give up all the improvements I'd made to my last rental. My new apartment has suffered from years of poor upkeep and shoddy workmanship, and the first thing I noticed was that the free floating bathroom cabinets were ever so slightly off balance. Not enough to bother most people, but I won't be able to relax until they're correctly levelled. While I have better levels I wanted to use this opportunity to give the xCool a test, and the best feature by far that jumped out at me was the powerful suction. It sticks to my bathroom tile with no issues at all. With devices at this price point I'd usually worried that such a feature was just a gimmick that would fail as often as it succeeded, but this is a genuinely useful and reliable feature. It just works. As for the rest, it's just a fairly standard level. The laser only points in one direction, which is less than ideal, but we're talking about a $70 tool here. It's got the basics covered at an accessible price, and for me that's enough to justify a solid five stars.

This is a cheaper version of a laser level and realistically not worth spending money on i have not liked this product out of many lasers i have reviewed, this one is a no from me.
- Dave2024-07-05Nice tool
This tool makes it a breeze to hang things on the wall. The suction works much better than what I expected and the laser is nice and bright. Sure, you can do it all manually for much less money but the convenience and time it saves make this product worth the money for me. As others mentioned, the instructions were a bit lacking and took some trial and error to get this fully setup, but it’s not bad enough to subtract a star. We will see how long the product holds up but so far it’s good.

I have an old house that is slightly out of plumb these days. I have a number of photos I framed to hang on drywall in a renovated upstairs room. My partner’s goal is to hang them so the tops are aligned. This level works alright, but I find the user experience hampered by directions that are printed with a parts and buttons diagram that is too small to read. Why do they do that? I don’t need the drill bit hole/vacuum cleaner function, but it is very convenient for the level to attach itself to the drywall using suction. The laser goes out about six feet. I think it would be more precise if the beam was narrower. As it is, I align my work with the top “edge” of the beam. The bubble levels in the device are quite sensitive so when they are centered I have confidence that the beam will be level. That’s important because any error multiplies with the distance from the source of the beam. This is a versatile and useful device for around the house, particularly if you do not already have a collection of bubble levels. It performs as advertised.
- J. D. Mosley-Matchett2024-05-21Oh man! I'm in LUV with this puppy!!
Yes, I read the other review, but to be honest I really don't mind the level only showing in one direction. If I need a 90-degree vertical and horizontal laser line simultaneously, I'm probably not just hanging a picture frame, which is what 90% of my need for a level is about. And in the past, when I've been drilling those holes to hang my frames, I'd use a small paper bag stuck to the wall (with masking tape) under the drill bit to collect all the drywall dust. Now all of that is a thing of the past because to position the frame, I'd want the drill dust collector DETACHED from the laser because I'm aligning the top or bottom of the frame and drilling a hole in an entirely different location. So note my photos with the laser detached from the dust collector. The other guy said it's hard to see where the drill bit is positioned, but not at all. Just slide the "dust-proof silicone cover" (that's never explained on the instruction sheet) over the drill bit, then slide the dust collector onto the drill bit, then position the drill bit on the wall where you want to drill the hole, then slide everything down toward the surface to catch the dust. If you're worried about the drill bit skittering out of position, just use a nail set punch and hammer to put a dimple where you want the hole. This is a really sweet set and it now has a permanent position next to my switchdriver. Truly, I'm in LUV with this puppy!
- Kindle Customer2024-06-12Wow! Hands free leveling!
I have never used a level like this before. After charging it up, it took me a while to figure out how to stick it on the wall and make the laser work. When all else fails, read the instructions. Once I got the hang of it, I was really impressed. No more reaching out for help to hold the level while I hang a picture or line up a panel. This will definitely be handy to have.
- Silver Fox2024-05-26Works on smooth walls
The xCool 3-in-1 Laser Level with Line Laser makes a cool gift for the handy person who has everything. The primary feature is the vacuum suction for temporarily attaching to a wall. It works very well on smooth surfaces. It does not work on rough wood or brick. The dust collector feature reduces the drilling debris, but it also blocks the view of the position of the tip of the drill. Therefore, the drill tip has to be positioned before the vacuum is turned on. A bellows is included in the kit, but without explanation. It snaps onto the drilling port, to capture debris exiting from the drill grooves. The laser is bright, but it points in one direction, which is downward when the dust collector is being used. A platform is included, but without instructions. It is useable as a substitute for a tripod for holding a full-feature laser level. This device is appropriate for tasks like mounting pictures on wallboard.
- T.W. Barton2024-06-02A good multipurpose laser
A good basic laser for most tasks. The thing that really shocked me was the vacuum of the device to keep it attached to the wall without an external support. This will help with most tasks you’d need a part level for but don’t expect it to go around your entire room or even the next wall. A good value for the price.
