I ordered this budget moisture meter, because as a homeowner, leaks do happen, and many are not visible to the naked eye. It’s just a tool that you need in your toolbox. What’s in the box: 1) One Pin / Pin Less Moisture Meter. 2) One vinyl storage pouch. 3) One instruction booklet, in several languages. 4) One 9-volt battery. 5) Two spare replacement probe pins. 6) Two rubber probe pin caps. Getting Started: Before installing the battery, I always put a volt meter on every battery that comes with items that I order. A low voltage may indicate that the item may have been used and returned or that the item may have been sitting on a shelf for a long period of time. The battery provided was sealed in plastic and had a voltage of 9.75 volts. I needed to read the instructions multiple times, as the font was small and the instructions weren’t very clear. To use the probes to test for moisture, you need to remove the protective cap on the top of the meter and remove the rubber caps from the metal test probes. Turn on the meter and select mode -> BLD. This will test moisture in wallboard, plaster, cardboard and concrete. To use the Pin Less Sensor you need to press the BLD / Tree icon until the Tree icon is displayed on the digital display. Next, press the DENSITY button (Multiple Times) until the number corresponds to the wood you’re trying to test. IE: Pine, cherry, red oak, etc. The Pin Less sensor worked well. I soaked a piece of 2x4 in water overnight and tested the upgraded sensor the next day. What I liked: Once you get through and understand the instructions and maneuver through the unit, the unit is pretty easy to use. The unit also displays the temperature in Fahrenheit or Celsius. If it has density.... it will probably have some moisture, depending on temperature. For the Techy’s you can also read about “The Relationship between Moisture and Temperature”. What I didn’t like: As previously mentioned, I wasn’t a ‘Fan’ of the instructions. They could have been clearer. Also, the protective cap that covers the probes can be difficult to remove. You need to squeeze both sides to remove the cap. In my opinion, the protective cap locking tabs will most likely be the first point of failure. Conclusion: Overall, I like this unit. I think it’s a good unit for a homeowner who plans to use this unit for occasional use. As for the moisture readings, you have to have some trust that the readings are somewhat accurate. I give it my 2 Thumbs Up.

This came with a great case, replacement probes, and the battery... plus kinda instructions, which were of some help but not totally clear. We've wood floors throughout the house and I thought this would be a great item to test for spots for possible humidity issues as that's a very common problem down here in the deep South. After going through the instruction manual repeatedly, I went online and learned much more about the tool It works quite easily once understood. And comparing with other humidity devices I have seems pretty accurate, though the others are more ambient and not internal devices. I liked the ease of reading the meter's various indicators, once understood completely. Also, I like that this works pin-less, as it's certainly easier to use that way on established flooring and walls. I did actually discover some points of water/moisture problems, that need to be addressed so it was a good deal already immediately. Some windows are allowing more moisture seepage than they should, being old wooden types, and now we know which to change first (as that's a project for this older home in the time to come). Seems reasonable for a great home tool, I do not know if this is professional quality or not, but works for me. I do wish though that the protective "cap" was easier to take off/on, and could have wished for better instructions. I do recommend this unit as long as you don't mind going to the internet for learning to use such if you're not familiar with the tool.

If you're in search of a reliable and high-performance wood moisture meter, look no further than the Professional Grade Wood Moisture Meter with Pin & Pinless 2-in-1 Detector. This tool is an absolute game-changer for anyone working with wood, whether you're a seasoned professional or a hobbyist, or in my case, a home inspector. One of the standout features of this moisture meter is its upgraded sensor technology, which ensures unparalleled accuracy and reliability. Whether you're using the pin or pinless mode, you can trust that you're getting precise readings every time. This dual-functionality allows for versatility in measuring moisture content in different types of wood and various environmental conditions. In the past , I have carried a pinned and pin less detector. After using this meter for about a week now, I don't need to carry around two tools . The backlit screen is another excellent feature, making it easy to read the measurements even in low-light environments or outdoors. This is especially useful for those who work in less-than-ideal lighting conditions, like attics or crawl spaces, ensuring you can always get clear readings without any hassle. In terms of usability, the moisture meter is straightforward and intuitive. You don't need to be a tech expert to operate it effectively. The interface is user-friendly, with simple controls that allow you to switch between modes and settings effortlessly. Overall, the moisture meter with Pin & Pinless 2-in-1 Detector is a must-have for anyone serious about woodworking or moisture detection. Its accuracy, and ease of use make it an indispensable tool in your toolkit. Highly recommended!

I dinged one star for it being over complicated and directions could be better. This meter is nice though, and you can use it two different ways. At the top of the device under the cover are two metal pins you can use to probe your wood, lol and the meter will tell you the moisture value of the probed wood. It also has a feature called Pin less sensor that is on the back of the meter that you simply set on top of your wood (less painful option), lol and it will read the moisture value of your wood. Now the confusing part is on the back of the meter there is a list of different types of wood and a number that corresponds to the mode your supposed to set the meter to so you can test that kind of wood. I could see a lot of people not having any idea what kinda wood they are using this on and not knowing what mode to use. I got this meter to test firewood so I don't think its a big deal with the mode, I don't need an exact percentage I just need to know if its wet inside or dry enough that it will burn. It also has a temperature gauge built in and a color screen for your readout. I would say it's feature rich maybe too much, but the build quality seems solid and Im a gadget freak so I thought I would try it out. I did notice that whatever mode your on if there is moisture it will detect it so even if you don't know what kinda wood it is you will get an idea. Pins are sharp, be careful probing your wood! Hope this helps someone, Thanks for reading.
- Blessed2024-06-20Useful tool if you can get the top off
This would be a useful tool to have on hand, however it's almost impossible to use. If the top of something is made to pop right off, why does it feel as if I am going to break something when trying to get the top off? It shouldn't have to be pried off with force. Besides the top, a device such as this with so many different measures & tests, a sufficient user manual should have been included. The only thing that came is a small, lackluster instruction pamphlet which does not provide all pertinent instructions. it's a disappointment...
- Shawn R.2024-07-04Good selection of features, selectable for 9 wood type scales plus building materials.
I’m a realtor and I keep one of these in my vehicle all the time. It’s not uncommon to find a stain in a home I’m looking at. Sometimes if the situation is right, I will offer to break out the meter to see if it is an active leak or probably an old leak. The last meter I had didn’t have nearly as many calibrated scales for wood types. I think this meter gives a lot more information than my old one. There is a handy list of wood types listed on the back of the meter so you don’t have to worry about keeping the instructions with the meter. The manual and the controls of the meter seem to indicate that there two measuring modes. One mode is using the pins and the second mode does not. The manual does not explain how to use the second mode and I have not figured that one out. The meter also has a calibration test. There are test points on the meter cap and the manual tells you what is should read. It’s a very complete moisture meter.
- MsBathnBody2024-06-18A good budget meter
The Huepar moisture meter seems well built, comes with a nice protective storage pouch, a 9 volt battery and an extra set of pins. Positives: very nice looking display. It has temperature, moisture level, an indicator saying which lumber hardness setting it’s on and then a scale with color across the top. It has an audible beep if moisture is high. Very intuitive buttons: wood vs building supplies, on/off held for power and the same button changes the wood density while it’s on, with short press. A mode button to change from pin to pinless. It’s nice to have both a pin and pinless way to test. The pins are accessed by taking a cap off the top. (Not the easiest cap to remove but it works) I prefer the pinless so I haven’t tested the pin mode. I compared to another moisture meter I have and both were within 1% of each other on multiple tests….sometimes within .3%. So seems to be accurate which is great. Only real negative and it’s not a deal breaker: the density scale/presets. It has a “common wood selection” chart that u set it to for a calibrated measurement based on hardness. A number system from 1 to 9, softest to most hard. That’s great but some of the more popular domestic woods and exotics would be nice to have been included in the table such as black walnut. Otherwise u have to google janka hardness and try to figure out where the wood falls in the density chart. I did change density while on a piece of walnut and the numbers change quite a bit so the density mode does matter. Otherwise, I’d consider it a good budget meter. I’ll continue to use the 2 meters and maybe take the average as my guide to the true moisture level
- Matt2024-07-16Meets my needs!
After going through and replacing the sill board on my house from a lack of appropriate moisture barrier, I am determined to find water moistures issues before they become a problem... This moisture meter does just that. Coming with some extra probes, and an ample user manual, you can test all sorts of woods and material for moisture. The screen is easy to read, the top and case make for safe and easy transport as well. Others have mentioned issues with the top not coming off, or the top coming off too easily... I've had no such issues. Glad to have a tool to check the roof after a heavy rain, or sills int he crawl space, or drywall where the sill aren't visible! Would recommend.
- BMT2024-06-28Versatile Moisture Meter
This arrived in a small compact box. Included is the moisture meter, a battery, a pair of spare pins, a case and instructions. They offer a 2 year warranty which you have to apply for, the QR code is in the instruction booklet. This unit feels very well made and pretty sturdy. Squeeze both sides to remove the pin cap which I did find to be a little difficult as it felt stuck. The cap is also used as a form of checking that the device works, the instructions tell you how to do this. There are 2 options, you can scan using the pins or the sensor which is at the back of the meter. There are various options that you can use to measure the moisture which is explained in the instruction booklet. I do a bit of wood work from time to time and this is an instrument that comes in handy especially where I live where the humidity is always high. I would say that this item is in the mid price range but it's worth noting that you get a case with this meter which is not always supplied with cheaper models.
- Scott2024-07-08Feels Very Well Made
This moisture meter feels very well made compared to others I have. It fits nicely in my hand and has rubber grips on each side of it to keep hold of it. The display is also easy to read. The wood selection guide is imprinted on the back of the meter for easy reference. The User Manual is pretty thick but only a few pages are dedicated for each language. The manual could have been a bit more explanatory but I was able to figure it all out. So far it's been reading very accurately compared to another moisture meter I have, but this one fits my hand better and has become my go to meter. HUEPAR provides a one year warranty but if you register through the QR code, then you get a two year warranty. However, when I tried to use the QR code, I kept getting an error message stating to enter the correct URL, presumably the Amazon URL of the product. I tried many times and couldn't register. Bummer!!
